Notes from Mrs Hulonce…
Reconciliation Week
Next week is Reconciliation Week. It is an
opportunity for indigenous and non-indigenous
students to come together to celebrate advances
in cultural acceptance and recognition. It
recognises that indigenous people were the
original founders of our great land and Australians
voted to remove clauses that discriminated
against Indigenous people. There is a special
event on Thursday 31st May at the Civic Hall where
grades 5 and 6 will attend traditional games,
Aboriginal language at the Civic Hall. It will start at
10:20am and conclude at 1:00pm. Students are
to wear school uniform and bring their own lunch
and drink on the day. A bus has been arranged
to pick up and drop off students to the event. An
information letter has gone home to those
students attending.
Enrolment Week
If you have a child starting Foundation in 2019 we
encourage you to enrol in the week starting
Monday June 11TH. Any parents wanting a look
around our school can make a time for a tour
during this week. All schools in Portland encourage
students to go to their Neighbourhood School.
Assembly-
We have taken on some parent and staff
feedback regarding School Assemblies being on
Friday afternoons. We recognise that this timing
could be improved… so we will be trialling a
changed timeslot for assembly- moving it to
Tuesday afternoon at 2:15pm in the GYM. Classes
will go directly to the gym when the bell goes and
if we finish early this time may be used back in the
classrooms. We see assemblies as an excellent
opportunity to showcase and celebrate student
achievement. This will be starting next Tuesday the
29th May. Thanks for your support!
Have a fun week everyone!
Think positive, be positive and positive
things will happen!
Your attitude determines your
direction
POSITIVE ATTITUDE
We can’t always control our circumstances but we can
always choose our attitude. This does not mean you
have to try and stop your negative feelings – we all have
them and it is healthy to feel all the different feelings we
have. A positive attitude is about dusting yourself off from
those negative feelings each time we have them and
choosing to focus on the things that make us feel positive.
Being a positive person can be as simple as smiling, being
friendly and focusing on the good things you have in your
life.
Consider this-
How can you start to grow your positive attitude?
Can you change the words you use? E.g. Instead
of complaining “It’s too hot today!” try thinking of
the good things “We get to have Zooper Doopers
today!” It can be even simpler, “I only have one
fidget spinner” to “I have a fidget spinner!” As
humans, language has the ability to shape our
thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Try making the
shift in the words you say every day and watch
what happens to your attitude!
Family Values Challenge-
Play a game with the words you use at home –
create a “Positivity Jar” (kind of like a swear jar –
but with the opposite purpose)) every time
someone says something negative that you or
another family member can turn into a positive, the
owner of the negative words places a coin in the
jar!

Indigenous Food Garden We are at the beginning of a very exciting new
project here at Bundarra Primary School and
we need your help!
We are building a local indigenous food garden as part of a bigger
ongoing project. To get started we need to dig out existing plants
and weeds in this area - this is where we need your help! If you have
any spare time during school hours this coming week we’d love your
muscle to start clearing this area. If you are available to help out at
all we would be extremely grateful. Please see Miss Mee to let her
know when you can help.

Yesterday
Grade 1/2D were lucky enough to
complete a lesson with
the Workskills adult
disability education
class. We worked on
healthy food choices and
then shared a healthy
morning tea together.
Aiden Murray 23L – We Went to Port of Portland and
we looked around. We saw wood chips coming to
the port in trucks. They were tipped onto the wood
chips pile. The woodchips then go onto the ships to
China. In China the wood chips are made into tissues,
baby nappies, paper and toilet paper. Then they go
to Australia and they give people tissues, baby
nappies, and toilet paper to everyone. The Bus Driver
was Xavier’s dad. He was driving the bus around the
Port of Portland. After that we went back to school
and had recess and then played for five minutes.
Xavier Tait 23L – On Tuesday 22 May 2018 12D and
23L went to the Port of Portland. We went on a bus.
My Dad was driving it. When we got there we drove
in. Everybody saw a big stack of woodchips and a
big puddle. We also saw Zahlees Mum. Everybody
waved to her. She didn’t see us. I learnt that the
wood chips could be made into paper like toilet
paper, furniture and tissues. We saw a lot of bull
dozers on the wood chips. Everybody noticed Zahlees
mum was counting big trucks. This was the best day
ever!
Zahlee Rundell 23L - 22 of May,
Tuesday, 2018. On Tuesday 23L and 12D
went to the Port of Portland. My mum
works at the Port. We all saw her but she
didn’t even see the bus that we were on.
I learnt that ships are sent over to China
with wood chips on the ship. I also saw
the trucks tipping out wood chips. I
thought the Port was very interesting. Our
tour guide was very very nice and kind.
His name was Graeme. I learnt that the
tugboats take in and out the ships. I
learnt that when the trucks tip, the
person is not in the trucks and that the
truck just sits on its brakes. The soft wood
is made into toilet paper and paper
tissues in China. I really liked the Port
because I liked watching the trucks
tipping the woodchips onto the
conveyor belt.
