ELEANOR ROOSEVELT INSTITUTE1991 SOMATIC CELL AND MOLECULAR

GENETICS WORKSHOPThe Eleanor Roosevelt Institute will again offer a

Somatic Cell and Molecular Genetics Workshop, 15 to28 July 1991. This NCI-supported laboratory courseprovides a combined somatic cell and molecular biologyworkshop experience. The course has been designed toprovide a "hands-on" introduction to the methodologyand concepts ofcurrent molecular biology procedures forscientists who need to exploit these techniques for theircontinuing research programs. The content of this work-shop also provides the basic techniques needed forresearchers interested in initiating genome mappingstudies. Included in the curriculum are: somatic celhybridization and mutant isolation, yeast molecular biol-ogy, isolation and analysis ofDNA and RNA, prepara-tion and in vitro translation of polyadenylated mRNA,DNA-mediated gene transfer, PCR, pulse-field gel elec-trophoresis, DNA sequencing, Western, Northern, andSouthern analyses, one- and two-dimensional gel electro-phoresis, and the preparation and screening of cDNAand genomic libraries. Principal investigators whose re-search interests focus on malignancy are particularlyinvited to apply. A registration fee of $200 will becharged and a per diem stipend is provided. Applicantsshould submit a letter descnbing how the workshop willassist their current research, along with curriculum vitaewhich lists publications (no abstracts) for the past 5 yearsonly, to: Lynda Fox, J.D., Administrative Coordina-tor, Somatic Cell and Molecular Genetics Workshop,Eleanor Roosevelt Institute, 1899 Gaylord Seet,Denver, CO 80206. Please do not send registration atthis time. Application deadline has been extended to 15May 1991. The Eleanor Roosevelt Institute is an EqualOpportunity/Aflirmative Action Institution and invites andencourages applicationsfrom women and minorities. Open toU.S. citizens and permanent residents only.

AccelerateYourAutoradiographyWith the Fujix BAS2000 Bio-imaging Analyzer, autoradiographic exposures that take two weeks

can be made overnight. Plus, you'll get high image quality and more accurate quantitation.

Fuji's patented photostimulablephosphor Imaging Plate (IP) takesthe p ace of traditional x-ray film toexpose your radio-labelled sample.Image ata exposed on the ImagingPlate is read by a laser and computerprocessed to detect minute amountsof substances often undetected bytraditional autoradiography.

The erasable, reusable ImagingPlates are over 100 times moresensitive to radiation than conven-tional x-ray film. This greatly reducesexposure time and helps you get yourresults faster.

The wide dynamic range of theImaging Plate, which exceeds fiveorders of magnitude, covers fromthe faintest to the greatest amountof activity, virtually eliminatingre-exposures.

The Imaging Plate allows easyto handle operation and scanningin under three minutes without adarkroom. Because the exposureand reading processes are decoupled, productivity is increased. Bands orspots can be quantitated directly onthe display, eliminating the need forliquid scintillation counting.

For fraction collection in any process,

in any volume, in any tube size......you can depend on a Gilsonfraction collectorThe Gilson FC 203, for example, has a 98% problem-free per-formance record. And there aresome FC 80s that are still on thejob after 20 years. That's thekind of reliability you get witha Gilson fraction collector...forany process, any collectionvolume, any vessel size.

New Gilson collector offershigh-volume, high-capacityThe new FC 204 is a multi-modefraction collector that holds 17618 mm tubes for preparativeapplications; 240 13 mm tubesfor semi-preparative applicationsand; 432 10 mm tubes for analyti-cal HPLC. And in low pressureLC systems, the FC 204 canprovide start/stop control ofpumps and chart recorders.

Except for size, the FC 204 isidentical to the proven FC 203.Both collect by time, drop orpeak with up to ten collectionwindows in any mode.

New FC 204 high-capacity, high-volume fraction collector.

Micro-Fractionators offer timeand drop collection optionsGilson FC 80 and FC 100 Micro-Fractionators are two of the mostpopular time/drop collectorsever made. Tens of thousandsare in use in LC systems, HPLCsystems and other processes. The FC 80 occupies less than a

square foot of bench space butoffers a total collected volumeof 720 ml. The FC 100 offers100-sample capacity in volumesup to 25 ml per tube.

Multi-mode 201 and 202 offermore collection optionsIf your requirements can't be metwith an FC 204,FC 203 or one ofour Micro-Fractionators, chancesare you need a 201 or 202. Thesecollectors offer 15 operatingmodes, high capacity and virtu-ally unlimited collection vol-umes. The 201 has a 120-tubecapacity while the larger 202offers 540-tube collection ina five-rack configuration.
