The Position

MRI Scientist for High Field Human MRI

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, Division of

Intramural Research, Laboratory of Functional andMolecular Imaging (LFMI)

vacancy associated with its high field MRI program. This program will be

expanding over the next couple of years with acquisition of an 11.7T head-only

human MRI system. Primary responsibilities include the development of high

field MRI technology to improve functional and anatomical imaging of human

Two Tenure-Track Faculty PositionsNeural Development, Function of Neural Circuits

The West Virginia University Center for Neuroscience (http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/wvucn/) is recruit-ing faculty to join a vigorous and rapidly growing research enterprise. Two positions are available: onefocused onmolecular and cellular biology of nervous system development or repair, and a second focusedon functional analysis of neuronal circuits underlying perception, cognition or behavior. The new professorship will focus on biogeochemical processes of major plant

Faculty Positions in Cell Signalingat the University of Houston

TheDepartment of Biology and Biochemistry at the Universityof Houston announces formation of the newCenter for NuclearReceptors and Cell Signaling under the direction of ProfessorJan-ÅkeGustafsson. Recruiting into this center will occur over

a period of three years, and it will ultimately be comprised of twelve tenuredand tenure-track faculty with distinct but complementary research interestssurrounding cell signaling. The scientific environment at the University ofHouston is excellent, especially in areas such neurobiology, structural biology,computational life sciences, and bioinformatics, and we envision that this newcenter will develop multiple areas of basic life sciences as well as its applica-tions. In addition, the Center will be geographically located in new space close tonumerous academic institutions and hospitals in the Texas Medical Center.

We now invite applications for tenured or tenure-track faculty at all levels inthe area of bioinformatics and molecular biology. In this first round of hiring,we are emphasizing the following themes: Neurobiology of nuclear receptors,structural biochemistry of nuclear receptors, nuclear receptors and the immunesystem, and the computational and systems biology of cell signaling, especiallywith respect to nuclear receptors. However, we have considerable flexibilitywithrespect to research areas, andwill consider outstanding productive investigatorsworking in other areas that are relevant to the goals of the center. The successfulapplicants will also complement existing departmental strengths in neurosci-ence, developmental biology, cell and molecular biology and the mechanismsof transcriptional regulation. We are especially interested in recruiting middlelevel and senior level faculty with active externally funded research programs.The positions require a Ph.D. and postdoctoral experience in appropriate areasof life sciences. Faculty in the center are expected to develop and/or maintainnationally competitive externally funded research programs and to participatein graduate and undergraduate teaching. Applications are invited for Professor of the Charles I. Berlin, PhD, Endowed Chair in the Department of Genetics at theLouisiana State University Health Sciences Center in NewOrleans.We are currently seeking individuals with an establishedresearch program who will develop and expand their research program in hearing research using genetic and/or molecularapproaches. The Charles I. Berlin Endowed Chair was established at LSU Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) in 2005 and enhances a well-established criti-cal mass of research in the hearing sciences at LSUHSC that has depth across many disciplines. It bridges the interdisciplinary work betweenthe Departments of Otolaryngology, Genetics, and the Neuroscience Center of Excellence.

The Department of Genetics provides a focus for a vast range of research activities from genetic analysis using invertebrate and mammaliansystems, to population genetics. Current strengths in genetics in the department include recombination and repair, cancer genetics, genetics ofdeafness, genetics of mucosal immunity, and basic research in Friedreichs ataxia. Regardless of the species/system employed, we seek individu-als with research programs that use a genetic approach to provide mechanistic insight into the chosen problem.

The facilities and start-up support provided by the Department are excellent. The development of interdisciplinary programs at LSUHSC,including the Cancer Center and the Gene Therapy Program affords a rich environment for scientific interactions. These programs also provideexcellent core facilities including gene expression profiling, state of the art microscopy includingmulti-photon confocal and live cell imaging,flowcytometry, bio-informatics, and high throughput genotyping.

The successful candidate must hold a M.D., Ph.D., or a M.D./Ph.D., ability to establish an extramurally supported research program, and mustbe interested in integrating research with teaching/mentoring.
