• Requested by the Army’s Ballistics Research Laboratory in 1943 to calculate artillery firing tables
• Engineered at The Moore School of Electrical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania at a cost of $500,000
• Arrived at APG January 1947, operational Aug 1947
• Weighed 30 tons and housed in a 30’x50’ room
• Used at Los Alamos for computations for the Hydrogen Bomb
• Additional uses: Weapons trajectories, weather prediction, cosmic-ray studies, thermal ignition, random number studies and wind-tunnel design
