The purpose of the task book is to provide a consistent, objective based, and quantifiable means of ensuring new officers have the fundamental skills necessary to function as supervisors and leaders. The task book is divided into three distinct function groups: I. Leadership and Supervisors II. Administration III. Operations Each function group is sub-divided into task and knowledge groups that are the core responsibilities of a company and station officer. Skills represent the task and knowledge groups that the new officer must successfully demonstrate and have verified by a evaluator.

LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISONI.

This function group represents the ability to lead, manage and supervise a diverse group of people. Fundamental skills include supervisor practices, knowledge of departmental rules and procedures and, the ability to develop personnel through evaluation. The officer must also be sensitive to a diverse work group and be able to recognize the need for personnel assistance and intervention.
