There will be options for undertaking either data collection and reporting in a new area of research or reporting on existing data as a research project.

The student will gain both a clear understanding of the on-ground application of biodiversity conservation under the EPBC Act and experience work in a national park jointly managed with traditional owners.

Parks Australia staff contribute to the conservation and appreciation of Australia's biological diversity and associated cultural heritage, through the management of Commonwealth reserves established under the EPBC Act 1999 and management of programs on behalf of the Department of the Environment.

Booderee National Park is part of the Joint Management branch of Parks Australia. The mission of Parks Joint Management Branch is to protect and promote cultural and natural values of Uluru-Kata Tjuta, Kakadu and Booderee national parks and support best practice park management.

Booderee National Park staff work in accordance with the Park’s Lease Agreement, the EPBC Act and Management Plan. We share the Traditional Owner’s vision for the future of the park and participate in the exchange of knowledge, experience and skills between Indigenous and non-Indigenous staff, the community and public.

There is a mix of field and office based working environments. We are a small team of staff that work together to achieve the conservation goals of the park. We usually work in pairs and for this role the expectation would be that work is undertaken in a team environment, though, office based work may be undertaken independently. The student will be expected to work to the deadlines of the team as prioritised through planning meetings. Flexible working arrangements are possible.
