PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
This position is responsible for
Leading and managing CMH Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) so that customer requirements are met.
Providing leadership to the CSSD by providing work direction and leadership to staff on practice and product changes in consultation with medical professionals, educators and managers
Managing, leading and providing direction to ensure a robust quality system and education programme is in place which meets the needs of the departments and its customers.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Accountability Standards / Achievements
To provide direction and leadership for CSSD (Professional Responsibility)
Is accountable for the operational functions of CSSD to ensure that customer requirements are met.
Uses expert knowledge and skills to provide clinical and technical leadership
Understand policies, procedures and guidelines; and where appropriate recommends review and implements changes.
Audits the standards of practice and clearly communicates within the area ensuring professional, ethical and relevant legislative requirements are met.
Monitors expenditure and accounting for variance and reports to Service Manager.
Checks invoices for accuracy and liaises with Rep’s to obtain competitive pricing
Identifies unsafe practice and responds appropriately to ensure safe outcomes.
Identifies deficits in the clinical and professional competencies of individuals and with the Educator CSSD develops a plan of action.
Accountable for maintaining accurate CSSD process steps and documentation.
Provides regular reports to the Service Manager of all performance issues and manages performance issues.
Works in collaboration with staff to form and maintain a quality plan in line with CMDHB Quality Plan
Identifying problems and issues and work with Service Manager, Nurse Manager, ACNM’s and Materials Management to resolve.
Accountable for infection control and quality control standards are maintained.
Working with unions individually and in joint consultative forums
To manage service delivery Ensure all equipment is processed through CSSD in compliance with appropriate standards.
Work collaboratively with customers to ensure that all equipment lists and resource data is accurate and available in CMH

Actively manages all aspects of annual leave and sick leave

Provides staff with timely feedback around performance and works in partnership with the staff member and appropriate others to develop strategies for managing performance gaps.

Ensure the service meets all statutory, regulatory and contractual obligations and complies with all CMH policies and procedures including occupational health & safety and human resource policies.
