Portreath Primary School Newsleer Half term already! I hope everyone has a good break and comes back ready for a busy final term. In the first week back we are holding a special ‘Resilience Day’ which will involve the children working in groups with children from different classes. They will be given activities and tasks to build resilience and have opportunities to work as a team. Resilience is so important in life and we want to help our children develop it. One definition of resilience is “The capacity to recover quickly from difficulties.” In school we often link it to persistence and the idea of not giving up when work gets difficult. I like to think about it as the ability to bounce back. Like a Weeble, you can’t be knocked down. You might make a mistake, but you learn from it and move forwards. Year 4 had a fabulous time at camp this week. A huge thank-you to Mrs Price, Mrs Kerslake and Mr Whetter for taking them and making it a great experience. Also thank-you to Mrs Gerrish who joined them on Wednesday for the day. It sounded like such an adventure and the children got to show how brave, ready, resilient and responsible they are and everyone came home happy (and very tired!) In an assembly this week we were thinking about our golden rules and online safety rules. Rather than having a list of things children shouldn’t do it is about being positive and focusing on what they should be doing. The children also need to understand that if they do not follow the rules there are consequences. I believe that children who find following the rules difficult may need support to do so and I want to offer them the help they need. It is also important for children to feel confident enough to speak out when others are not being kind and to feel that they are listened to. This is something we are regularly working on and will continue to do so. We received a letter today from George Eustice congratulating us on the excellent work that we have been doing tackling plastics. He said that he had paid tribute to the school in the House of Commons and sent us a copy of the Hansard from that day, which I shared with the children in assembly. Half term already! I hope everyone has a good break and comes back ready for a busy final term. In

the first week back we are holding a special ‘Resilience Day’ which will involve the children working in

groups with children from different classes. They will be given activities and tasks to build resilience

and have opportunities to work as a team. Resilience is so important in life and we want to help our

children develop it. One definition of resilience is “The capacity to recover quickly from difficulties.” In

school we often link it to persistence and the idea of not giving up when work gets difficult. I like to

think about it as the ability to bounce back. Like a Weeble, you can’t be knocked down. You might

make a mistake, but you learn from it and move forwards.

Year 4 had a fabulous time at camp this week. A huge thank-you to Mrs Price, Mrs Kerslake and Mr

Whetter for taking them and making it a great experience. Also thank-you to Mrs Gerrish who joined

them on Wednesday for the day. It sounded like such an adventure and the children got to show how

brave, ready, resilient and responsible they are and everyone came home happy (and very tired!)

In an assembly this week we were thinking about our golden rules and online safety rules. Rather than

having a list of things children shouldn’t do it is about being positive and focusing on what they should

be doing. The children also need to understand that if they do not follow the rules there are

consequences. I believe that children who find following the rules difficult may need support to do so

and I want to offer them the help they need. It is also important for children to feel confident enough to

speak out when others are not being kind and to feel that they are listened to. This is something we

are regularly working on and will continue to do so.

We received a letter today from George Eustice congratulating us on the excellent work that we have

been doing tackling plastics. He said that he had paid tribute to the school in the House of Commons

and sent us a copy of the Hansard from that day, which I shared with the children in assembly.

GDPR

Over the last few months, like most other schools, we have

been preparing for the new GDPR and we have an action

plan in place. In line with this we have sent out a new photo

consent form. Thank you so much to all those parents who

have already returned them. Please return these forms as

soon as possible so that we know whether images of your

child can be included on our weekly newsletters.

We want to continue putting photos on to our newsletters. If

the children are identifiable e.g. there face is clearly visible

then we will check our records to see if you have given

consent. If you do not want your child on the newsletter

because it is published online we could cover the child’s

face on the newsletter that is uploaded to the website and

emailed out. We will only put first names of children on the

newsletter and website.

No Guitar lesson 1st week back

Mr Harris has informed us that there will be

no guitar lessons the first week back, but

he will make the time up another week.
