My main idea for this project was to create two very different characters within in the same spatial logic. Our two different main programs, the brew pub and the co working, have very different needs and opportunities. They are not spatially connected, but instead socially connected, through the shared spaces in the building and the main stairway and entrance. The structural system consists of two continuous concrete cores, with column and beam steel structure – designed differently to enhance the different characters.

The ground floor is conceptually connected to the street and the city outside of the walls: the messy and active Broadway. The brick is left exposed brick and raw materials are used. A dark atmosphere, but skylights washes the brick walls with light along the sides. The beams are rest-ing on the columns, to create a more heavy and rough feeling. When walking up in the building, you are moving towards the light and the first you will see is the big courtyard that can be used by the bar in the summer time. The bracing is encased to create a more light and calm expression. Generous rooms with a open floor plan filled with light, where the structure is more articulated and fine grained with angled beams that follow the roof’s changing angles.

TOREKOV CULTURE CENTRE

Torekov is an old fishing village in the southern parts of Sweden that struggles with an aging population. The village needs to develop and change to attract new busi-nesses and inhabitants. Based on a program that the locals themselves had written, we chose our own site and were free to propose an architectural intervention where we wanted.

I designed a culture house with flexible spaces that will work for a future growing and changing population.

The project started with a collaboration project focusing on the urban planning of the area, and after that, each team member designed one of the buildings that were proposed in the urban plan. I designed a combined library and apartment building, a part of our proposed Arts and Culture campus. The Campus plan proposed educational facilities with an empha-sis on learning by doing. The program activates the square on a daily basis and when the weather allows it: most of the activities can move out into the plaza.

Our urban design theme was centred around the notion of the public realm being a stage, and one thing that interests me about the stage is that it is both permanent and temporary. The structure is permanent, but it changes with its use, depending on what you put on the stage and who interacts with it and it is designed to both host audience and performers. I wanted the building to have a public face, even though it has residential use above. I have been working with a strict and classic outer frame structure, with a more organic interior layer of glass, with angled walls that will reflect the light in different ways.

Concept: the city as a stage

The stage is both permanent and defined and temporary and fluid. It works as a frame for exposure and life, and changes with its users: both the actors and the audience. There is an inherent balance between these two. Transformation. Contemplation. Prepara-tion. Action.

4th prize in the Swedish national student competition ‘Hemuppgiften’

The site is located in Malmö south inner city, a neighborhood with great eth-nic diversity and a subcultural character. The district is being transformed, and gentrification starts to take place. In what different ways can we deal with urban transformation and still be able to keep prices down and keep a mixed population? My project is an apartment building for young people with a focus on social sustainability, combined with free standing live/work-units placed in the gen-erous courtyard space. The main building is acessed by external corridors, that gives a sense of presence and letting the private life take place in pub-lic areas creates a feeling of security. The scale is taken down to a human scale by mixing different heights and levels in the project.

Workshop: Light and materiality

The experience of the ambience is influenced by a fabric of interdependent elements, and the task was to investigate how these interact and vary with each other. Three very important aspects is the relationship be-tween light and darkness, the relationship between body and space (room figures but also materiality) and movement through a building and the models are exploring the concept of atmosphere.

Water is an essential aspect of being a human. At the same time, our modern soci-ety makes us more and more separated from the water. Water in our cities today are merely seen as something beautiful and enjoyable. My proposal was to make water visible in people’s everyday lives. I propose a water cleaning facility, that terminates in a bath house in this new development area in Stockholm called Årsta. The ground floor is totally transparent so the passer by can see the cleaning process in action. Above the water treatment facility, is an apartment building with a speculative approach to how we live today.

Six thin steel pipes carries the weight to the ground from the heavy concrete body. I wanted to explore the interplay and contrasts be-tween the materials - the rigid and strict of the concrete and the or-ganic and delicate of the steel pipes.

As an intern at Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter, I worked mainly with two competitions: the first one was a competition about a new Culture House in the small town Köge, located about one hour away from Copenhagen.

Our concept was to transform the traditional gabled roofs into some-thing modern that would gather the people of Köge. I was a part of the design team, and developed the general design in collaboration with the other architects and interns. I was then mainly responsible for physical and digital modelling and creating diagrams that explained the project design.

1st prize of invited competition of three Scandinavian teams

The second competition I worked with at Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter was “Lund Ekonomihögskola”, an addition of about 16,000 square meters to the existing school. The competition brief asked for modern ways of studying, and inspiring common facilities for both researchers, teachers and students.

We worked with a box structure with cut outs, where the flow in the building was a central point in the design. The flow was centred around the two inner court yards, and they provided different atmospheres to the interior spaces. My contribution to this project was developing the overall design with the rest of the team and working with the plan drawings, the diagrams and all the written material. I was also attending a lot of meetings with the contractor and our collaborating engineers.

1st prize in invited competition

My next internship was at Semrén & Månsson arkitekter in Stockholm, Swe-den where I did a range of different work: mainly competitions, early concept development and sketch projects. The site for this competition is located at the second biggest island in Sweden, Öland. An existing golf resort complex wanted to grow and attract a new kind of visitors, and offer more than just the golf experience with good restaurants, bars and an extensive spa-area. We were inspired by the flat landscape, and did a horizontal project that reached out in the wonderful surrounding landscape. We were three people in the office that did the initial design and concept development for the project, and I was a part of that team from start to submission. I did most of the graphics for the project.

EN VERKTYGSLÅDA

Kvarterets volymer blir egna karaktärer inom ramen för en samlad materialpalett. Varje trappuppgång är unik med olika detaljer, fönstersättning och fasadmaterial i en enhetlig struktur och färgsättning.För att uppnå en harmonisk helhet och en ekonomiskt hållbar lösning arbetar vi med en sammanhållen verktygslåda. Inom ramen för gestaltningsprincipen skapar den möjlighet för variation och samtidigt behåller helheten. Variation av täthet, materialitet och textur genererar ett livfullt kvarter.

1. STADSGATANMot Fyrislundsgatan hålls en generellt stadsmässig skala enligt stadens grammatik med markerad sockel och takvåning. Fasaderna är släta och får fönsterkupor och burspråk. Färgerna är från en naturlig palett, med terrakottarött som kontrastfärg mot dova gråblåa toner i puts och plåt. Gatans bottenvåning är varierad och portiken som ökar tillgängligheten till kvarterets gård. Entréerna är omsorgsfullt gestaltade med varma, taktila material, anpassad belysning och välkomnande uttryck.

2. DET GRÖNA BANDETGårdsfasaden sprakar av grönskande djupa odlingsbalkonger. Istället för trånga hörnlösningar, som ofta ger mörka och ineffektiva ytor, har vi valt att placera fristående volymer på gården. Dessa stadsvillor blir gårdens diamanter med friare formspråk med knäckta tak som lämpar sig utmärkt för solceller. Släppet mellan bostadsvolymerna i söder tillsammans med det lekfulla förskoletaket ger en både fysisk och visuell kontakt mellan gården och parken söder om kvarteret. Gården programmeras med aktiviteter som boule, verkstad och festpaviljong mm.

3. GÅFARTSGATANMot Johannesbäcksgatan hålls en lägre skala och materialiteten är taktil och kulörerna varmare. Här får det privata ta plats i gatumiljön med extra privata entréer till lägenheterna i markplan.

GÅRDENGården är planerad med en rik och varierad grönska, som ska vara tålig, vacker att se på och funktionell. En rik flora av träd som ger lövskugga om sommaren och även fruktträd och buskar med bär. Fokus ligger på arter som ingår i Uppsalas lokala och historiska naturlandskap men också de arter som lockar fjärilar, humlor och solitärbin.

Gården erbjuder också kontakt med vatten både som vackert inslag och för den biologiska mångfalden. Den ger även en lokal fördröjning av dagvattnet. Grunda vattenspeglar blandas med djupare stråk där tjärrväxter får gro. Vid stuprören ställs regnskördartunnor som tillgängliggör regnvattnet för de boende för vattning eller lek.

Hälsoaspekten är ett viktigt inslag på gården. Utegymmet och lekplatsen får stort utrymme för att locka till rörelse. Gårdens blandade aktiviteter ger möjlighet för alla att delta och ökar den sociala samvaron grannar emellan.

FÖRSKOLANS GRÖNA PROFILFörskolan får möjlighet att arbeta med en grön pedagogik och en miljöinriktad verksamhet. Komposten och odlingslotten på gården tar förskolebarnen hand om som ett läromoment och de har spännande lekmöjligheter både uppe på taket, inne på gården och i den närliggande parken. Trappan upp till taket blir perfekta gradänger för samling eller teater!

LÄGENHETERNAI kvarteret finns lägenhetsstorlekar mellan 1 RoK till 4 RoK. Betoningen ligger på små effektiva lägenheter. Alla får kontakt med den tysta gården eller gåfartsgatan och de större är genomgående. De yteffektiva ettorna är ca 33 m² och det finns ca 45 stycken runt om kvarteret. Alla lägenheter har balkong eller altan. Många balkonger mot gården blir odlingsbalkonger med ett generöst djup och inbyggda odlingslådor.

At Semrén & Månsson I worked on a competition for a new devel-opment area in Uppsala, Sweden called “Östra Sala Backe”. We designed a block of housing, day care facility and a rich courtyard environment for the inhabitants to enjoy. We were one of eight that got chosen to realize the project, out of 49 proposals in total. I worked with the elevations, landscape design and concept and some graphics.
