2. DESCRIPTION OF MODULE On this Module the students are going to develop the language skills based on abilities to communicate about world issues, technology, Art, history and Cultural Exchanges. Global competence Learners can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options. Specific competence of the module Can understand phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to areas of most immediate personal relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local area, employment. Can read very short, simple texts, and predictable information in simple everyday material such as advertisements, prospectuses, menus and timetables. Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics and activities and use a series of phrases and sentences to describe in simple terms. Can make projects that allow apply the English language useful in personal, public, occupational and educational domain. And each one is described in terms of location, institutions or organizations, persons, objects, events, operations and texts 3. INTRODUCTION The closer we become a global society, more important is language learning. If we add the mixture of cultures and the need to travel to other countries for work reasons, we conclude that knowledge of a language today is almost essential. Today more than ever it is essential to learn the English language. Every day is used more in almost all areas of knowledge and human development. Practically it can be argued that it is the language of the world. It is, in the era of globalization, the great international language. For global consensus, English has been chosen as the language of international communication. It is "de facto" the language of diplomacy in a world "global". In the economic field, industry, business, international trade, the entire productive universe is written, spoken and read English. Major airlines, for example, have adopted it as the official language. If you know this language, any worker will open almost every door in the workplace and improving opportunities, from medium-wage jobs to the highest executive levels. One of the reasons why English has taken great importance in the workplace is that companies are becoming more global and less local. Businesses are no longer limited to interact and do business within a country, but are beyond the frontiers. In this sense, English has become the language of business. Negotiations are usually conducted in English, a language which is dominated by two companies, simplifying business transactions. 4. MODULE 6 6a World issues Vocabulary 5. GRAMMAR WORD INFORMATION Forming the theory adjectives / nouns We use the suffix izeto form adjectives / nouns. (Legal legalize, memory memorize). 10. 6e DEMONSTRATION Homeless Most countries provide a variety of services to assist homeless people. They often provide food, shelter and clothing and may be organized and run by community organizations (often with the help of volunteers) or by government departments. These programs may be supported by government, charities, churches and individual donors. Many non- profit organizations such as Goodwill Industries maintain a mission to "provide skill development and work opportunities to people with barriers to employment". Many cities also have street newspapers, which are publications designed to provide employment opportunity to homeless people. While some homeless have jobs, some must seek other methods to make a living. Begging or panhandling is one option, but is becoming increasingly illegal in many cities. Major reasons and causes for homelessness as documented by many reports and studies include: Unavailability of employment opportunities. Poverty, caused by many factors including unemployment and underemployment. Lack of accessible healthcare. People who have some kind of chronic and weakening disease but cannot get healthcare either because they don't have money to afford it or because the government will not give it to them are simply too weak to go and work every day. 11. Abuse by government or by other people with power. War or armed conflict. Natural Disasters, including but not limited to earthquakes and hurricanes. Mental disorder, where mental health services are unavailable or difficult to access. A United States Federal survey done in 2005 indicated that at least one-third of homeless men and women have serious psychiatric disorders or problems. Disability, especially where disability services are non-existent or poor performing. Social exclusion, including because of sexual orientation and gender identity. Substance abuse Domestic violence. INTONATION Tag questions Hes too young, isnt he? (expects an answer) He hasnt come yet, has he?(asks for confirmation) Tag questions are short question at the end of statements. They are mainly used a speech when we want to confirm something or when we want to find out if something is true or not. Tag questions are formed with an auxiliary verb and the appropriate subject pronoun. They take the same as in the statement, or, if there isnt an auxiliary in the statement, they take do/does or did. 12. 6f CROSS CURRICULAR CUT Rainforest These incredible places cover only 6 %of the Earth's surface but yet they contain MORE THAN 1/2 of the world's plant and animal species! A Rainforest can be described as a tall, dense jungle. The reason it is called a "rain" forest is because of the high amount of rainfall it gets per year. The climate of a rain forest is very hot and humid so the animals and plants that exist there must learn to adapt to this climate. As many as 30 million species of plants and animals live in tropical rainforests. At least two-thirds of the world's plant species, including many exotic and beautiful flowers grow in the rainforests. MODULE 7 7a VOCABULARY 13. ROBOTS Scientists have long pondered the question of how and where the brain stores episodic memories, complex associations of objects, space and time. MIT research led by Susumu Tonegawa reveals new details of the location of both actual memories and artificially induced false memories within the hippocampus of a mouse brain. The image above shows the mouse's memory traces in red. Not surprisingly, the brain demonstrated exactly the same neural mechanisms for storage of real and false memories. So how are the memory associations made? These associations are encoded by chemical and physical changes in neurons, as well as by modifications to the connections between the neurons. Compared to most studies that treat the brain as a black box while trying to access it from the 14. outside in, this is like we are trying to study the brain from the inside out. The technology we developed for this study allows us to fine-dissect and even potentially tinker with the memory process by directly controlling the brain cells. It has been suspected that memories were located in the temporal lobe since the 1940s when researchers discovered that electrical stimulation of the region caused patients to spontaneously recall past events. But proof of this theory had to wait until it was possible to demonstrate that the activation of specific hippocampal cells was sufficient to produce memories. GRAMMAR Must Have to We use / have to go now or well be late.(We are obliged to obligation) You must be back at noon.(Make sure youll be back order) You must see a doctor. (I strongly advise you advice) You must not wear shorts are work.(Its forbidden prohibition) You dont have to work overtime.(You arent obliged, you dont need to lack of obligation). 7b NANO WORLD The third, partly revised and enlarged edition of this introductory reference summarizes the terms and definitions, most important phenomena, and regulations occurring in the physics, chemistry, technology, and application of nanostructures. A representative collection of fundamental terms and definitions from quantum physics and chemistry, special mathematics, organic and inorganic chemistry, solid state physics, material science and technology accompanies recommended secondary sources for an extended study of any given subject. 15. Each of the more than 2,200 entries, from a few sentences to a page in length, interprets the term or definition in question and briefly presents the main features of the phenomena behind it. Additional information in the form of notes ("First described in", "Recognition", "More details in") supplements the entries and gives a historical perspective of the subject with reference to further sources. Ideal for answering questions related to unknown terms and definitions among undergraduate and PhD students studying the physics of low-dimensional structures, nanoelectronics, and nanotechnology. The first proposed this word was the English scientist, Sir Richard Owen, in 1841. Dinosaur means "terrible lizard", and this name comes because Sir Richard saw them as a large extinct reptiles, very different in the animal kingdom. Dinosaurs are the result of a locomotor specialization that has led them to have limbs splayed out to the sides (like reptiles) to have them under the body. This process began with specialization thecodonts (ancient reptiles). Among the many subdivisions in groups that can make dinosaurs, there are two very important to know: Depending on the time they are. From 245 to 208 million years are said to be Triassic. From 208 to 144 million years, are of the Jurassic Era. From 144 to 64 million years, are the Cretaceous. There is also another depending on their hip. So econtramos the ornithischians, which is characterized by having the pubis backward and downward, and saurischians. These have the pubis forward and down. Finally, it is important to mention that the dinosaurs became extinct 66 million years ago. But though their extinction has always been a very hot topic in paleontology and science, and have proposed many diverse theories to explain his disappearance 17. remains a mystery as none of them has been fully proven, and therefore accepted. 7e HACKERS In the world of computing, a hacker is a person who enters unauthorized access to computers and computer networks. Their motivation varies according to their ideology: for profit, as a form of protest or just for the satisfaction of doing. Hackers have evolved from clandestine groups to be communities with well-defined identity. According to a hacker targets, and to identify ideas that communicants, are mainly classified into: black hat hackers, gray hat, black hat and script kiddie. 19. 8a Vocabulary ART Dance Painting Animation Theater GRAMMAR Form: be + past participle We use the passive when we want to emphasize the action and not the person who did it. 30. PRODUCTION Small laboratories on a single chip allows a person autorealizarce a lab with a single drop of sample and detect it up to 16 parameters, also called lab in the palm of the hand, is a sensor that provides attractive benefits for the sector health, as it allows to obtain reliable results immediately. The analysis can be done in the same doctor's office, without having to send samples to laboratories. Descolapsar also allows laboratories and intervene before the disease on providing the most appropriate treatment in less time. Its use is coupling the biosensor to a device like a smartphone; you have the electronic media to read the result. So every time you want to analyze, we should just put a new biochip and above this, the test sample, the biosensor could be reusable hundreds of times. It is a highly sophisticated technology, which provides high accuracy and reliability in the results. The biosensor is an interferometer: what are the optical variation measures as an analytical tool. This biochip contains 16 interferometers, which are coupled light rays. 31. EXPOSITIONS 32. GRAMMATICAL The scars of the earthquake in the EjeCafetero. On January 25th, 1999 at 1:19 in the afternoon the city of Armenia, Colombia, suffered the devastation of an earthquake of magnitude 6.1 (Mw) with a focal depth of 17 km. the earthquake and a series of aftershocks were felt through 5 departments in western Colombia (Caldas, Quindo, Risaralda, Tolima and Valle del Cauca). "The earthquake was felt very hard and I began to see many ambulances. I walked up to the school where my mom was and there was nothing, but then I found it, "said Londoo, minister of Colombia. This area has a well-known high seismic hazard, due to the triple junction that occurs at the northwest corner of the South American Plate where the Nazca, Cocos, and Pacific plates converge. 1185 people were killed due to the ground shaking while 8523 were injured. About 60% of the existent structures in Armenia collapsed. Most of these buildings that collapsed were old and poorly constructed, or were built on poor soil such as old landfill sites or steep slopes. The newer structures, for the most part, survived intact due to safety measures being established in 1984 after the Popayan earthquake in 1983. The main economic activity of the region, the Colombian coffee industry was heavily affected. About 34. 8000 coffee farms were completely or partially destroyed. Losses are estimated in about US$2000 million. "That day changed his life to the world. We realized how fleeting our existence was. Knew what was destroyed, "she explained Andrea Valencia, who at the time of the earthquake was at home watching The Simpsons According to balance relief authorities, 30 000 families were affected and in a number that was never confirmed, more than 150 000 homes went down or received significant damage in their structures. Today modern houses, land well planned and appropriate ways to population density make Armenia an exemplary city in the country. After the disaster, between the Government, the Governor and the Mayor have invested about 1.6 billion pesos in the recovery of the region. 4. THE USE OF TALKATIVE LANGUAGE The literal expressions are mainly in past and through the present and simple past, the present and perfect past; it can describe himself the historical event given in this city. 5. Armenia is a futuristic city that hides behind the curtain of its facade that January 25, 1999, when an earthquake of 6.4 degrees on the Richter scale took the floor decades of coffee tradition. 35. 6. CONCLUSIONS Many and varied are the primary and secondary effects produced when performing a natural hazard, both on nature, and on thepeople and their way of life. There exists in the world that no human being is inability to predict the occurrence of a natural hazard, let alone the magnitude nor the grave and terrible consequences that leaves in its wake when it becomes that all call Disaster or Catastrophe. Land 11 years ago did his with an earthquake that destroyed much of the territory of Quindio, destroyed homes, hotels, churches, brothels and killed many, regardless of race, religion, stratum, customs , jobs or positions. The earthquake also destroyed the dreams, trophies, titles and everything that stood in its path and had no sympathy with anyone. 7. BIBLIOGRAPHY Alfonso Surez, El terremoto un desastre natural muy cercano a Colombia. Jahir Rodrguez-Rodrguez. Universidad Autnoma de Manizales, Manizales, Colombia. 36. CONCLUSIONS Learning English is important because this is the predominant language in the world, that is why many people communicate in different countries through this language. The English is important because we can take in everyday life, an example of this is when we have a magazine from another country and the items are in this language, English in this case would serve to translate and understand what we mean another example would be the case of a song, if you do not know the English would not understand what the author wants to express this. Also with the English can relate to other people who are not of our country through social networks and exchange information about culture, traditions and way of life in other countries.
