DescriptionMatching letterhead and business card using a personal business logo.

ProgramsAdobe Illustrator

ObjectivesCreate a business card and letterhead with a logo that fits a personal company.Consistent layout using the basic tools in Adobe Illustrator.

ProcessI began creating a two-page template: 2x3.5 inches. On the front I placed the logo I created on the template. I changed the background color to a mint blue. I decided to use this color because of the popularity of it in designs. The reason I decided to center the contact information below because if I had aligned it to the left or the right it would have left the business card unbalanced visually. So, the center alignment looked best with this particular design. I added two stripes of the same color on the front of the card, to the top and bottom of the back of the card. Between the two stripes I created a polka dot design using the ellipse tool and repeated the circles. I randomly placed light gray hearts throughout the polka dot design to incorporate the logo that I created for my personal business. The repetitiveness of the color and the shapes created visual flow and unity.

ObjectivesCreate a business card and letterhead with a logo that fits a personal company.Consistent layout using the basic tools in Adobe Illustrator.

ProcessI used the same polka dots, used for the business card, for the watermark on the letterhead. I added my logo to inform individuals about my company and to whom it belongs. Below the logo I added my name, address, phone number, and email. I did not center this information because the right aligned text aligned with a row of the polka dots. This looked better and created a visual line for the writing that would actually be on a used letter. I added the two block lines at the top of the letterhead to repeat the color and show a stronger design for a letterhead. Without the stripes at the top there was no visual flow.

DescriptionAn inspirational montage made by the blending of two or more images, and the use of typography.

ProgramsAdobe Photoshop

ObjectivesCreate a montage of the Rexburg LDS temple with a color scheme and a compilation of different images.

ProcessI created a template 8.5 x 11 in Photoshop. I took this photo of the Rexburg temple, I added a mask of gaustian blur. Then I layered the photo of the temple with a texture photo. Then I added another type of texture from an image and added the blending method of multiply to the photo. Then I doubled that layer to make the image a bit darker. I lowered the opacity on the textured images so we could still see the temple. Then I added the photo of the Celestial room ceiling and the flowers. I lowered the opacity on both images and created masks on them and erased parts of the image to make the pixels combine on all the images.

R E S I S T

God always helps the beautiful soul, not the beautiful face. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a reminder that life is not all about beauty on the outside. Snow White was given a red delicious apple and because it looked so tasty she took a bite. Little did she know that the apple had been poisoned by the old lady. The old lady is actually the Queen of the land, who is jealous of Snow White because she is the “fairest” in the land. At the end of the story, jealousy kills.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs RELIGIOUS SYMBOLS

Snow White, a beautiful girl, lives in a forest to hide from her step mother. She lives with seven dwarfs. Snow White’s step mother is the wicked Queen who is jealous of Snow White because she is the “fairest in all the land” and is more beautiful than the Queen.

The Queen disguises herself as an old peddler woman and persuades Snow White to bite into a poisoned apple. The dwarfs, warned by the forest animals, rush home to chase the witch away, but they are to late to save Snow White from the

poisoned apple. The Prince awakens her with “true love’s kiss.’

The poison apple that the evil Queen offers Snow White is the most prominent religious symbol in the Disney film. It is a very close parallel to the Bible story of Adam and Eve, where Eve is tempted by the forbidden fruit and is corrupted by her acceptance of this fruit.

Just as in the Bible, Snow White is tempted by the poison apple and ultimately suffers for it. The word apple itself means sin, and comes from the latin, “malum,” which means evil.

Snow White knows she should not be accepting gifts from strangers. Her weakness for the apple results in a “sleeping death.”

DescriptionA two sided (duplex) folding brochure.

ProgramsAdobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator

ObjectivesThis project is to inform the audience about the moral of the Disney film, Snow White and the religious symbols in the film.

ProcessI set up the gateway fold in Adobe InDesign. I split my layout, with guides, into four sections with the concept that the two outer sections would be the flaps of the brochure and the three middle sections would be the ‘body’ of the brochure. For the photo on the front, I duplicated it, put the left side of the photo on the right of the page of InDesign and the right side of the photo on the left of the page of InDesign. For the inside, I added guides to both pages to show where the folds would be. Then I added my other photos and other designs. I changed the opacity to the photo in the center of the inside.

In Photoshop I edited the ‘witch’ picture and the ‘Snow White’ picture. I selected the image, clicked “refine image,” changed the settings and saved both photos as Photoshop documents. On the left of the brochure, I placed the photo of ‘Snow White’ and the ‘witch’ on the left and right side of the page, respectively, and created a text wrap around them. To print, I selected “two-sided” and “short binding” to print correctly.

DescriptionBlack & White promotional flier to promote a graduate leadership conference.

ProgramsAdobe InDesign

ObjectivesI am hoping to intrigue college students to come to this fun and exciting leadership conference. I also want them to view the most important information first. First, the fact that there is a leadership conference for those who are interested. Second, the date, time, and place for this particular event. Then, registration and who it’s available for and lastly, more information about what the conference will do for the viewer.

ProcessI began this assignment by sketching ideas and layouts for the information. I came up with four options, asked opinions of others for which one was the most appealing and used the best sketch to execute the final project with. After I had a map of the design, I used InDesign to create my design on the computer. I made sure I had good contrast, alignment, and visual movement throughout my design.

DescriptionThree logo variations for the same company.

ProgramsAdobe Illustrator

ObjectivesThese logos show variety in type, shape, symbol, and illustration. This is to give the company, Cocoa Bean in this case, more options for what they like and more ideas.

ProcessI decided that I wanted to create a newer and more fun logo for the company Cocoa Bean. I first found a cupcake online and traced the shape of it in Illustrator. I changed the colors to make it more appealing for the audience of Cocoa Bean. I created different shapes for each logo. The first one was a rectangular shape, the second shape was circular, and the last one was a line. I changed the fonts and colors to give more variety and options. I faded the colors a lot and added white and blacks to create different shades of the colors.

DescriptionA color full-bleed event ad to promote a fund raiser using only Microsoft Word and a scanner.

ProgramsMicrosoft Word, Adobe Photoshop, and an Epson Scanner

ObjectivesI have used Microsoft Word to design this layout so it can be opened and changed, if needed, on any computer. The message is to bring cans of food to Broulim’s Supermarket for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and the LDS church is in charge of collection and distribution.

ProcessI scanned the image of the Campbell’s soup can from a magazine. I cropped this image using Photoshop so I only had the can. In Photoshop I also copied the image and repeated it across the page. I saved it as a jpeg so I could place it in Microsoft Word. Once I added the image in Microsoft Word, I created a design and added text in order to portray the message I wanted. I also added repeating objects of a diamond to create unity in my photo. I chose an analogous color scheme to bring in the colors that are on the Campbell’s can. This also created unity.

ObjectivesThis assignment demonstrated good photography and image editing skills. I have created a full-bleed photo design project with a quote. I included my own, quality image, a consistent color scheme based on the image, text, and design elements.

ProcessI took a photograph with my Cannon Rebel. I manipulated the image by adding effects to the photo. I used layers and clipping masks to get the effects desired to make it appealing for this particular project in Photoshop. I blurred the edges of the photo and added the “pinch” effect to create depth. I used the complementary colors of blue and orange because I noticed hints of those colors in the necklace and the reflection.

DescriptionA web page to show my personal business and a personal logo.

ProgramsText Wrangler and Adobe Illustrator

ObjectivesProve my skills in Text Wrangler using HTML and CSS coding. I used a personal business logo to create a website design for my personal business. This website was directed towards women between the ages of 14-65.

ProcessI used Text Wrangler and Adobe Illustrator for this project. It was really fun to change things in the CSS document to see what happened with my web page. I changed the alignment for the header. I changed the color of the background for the body copy and the header. I created a polka dot image that I repeated throughout the background of the design. I changed my fonts to Janda Elegant Handwriting for the titles and Futura Light for the body copy. I learned how to manipulate a web page using HTML and CSS codes.
