Facilities Space Planning

Reconfigurations for Workplace Resource Group and Textron

Page 15: Portfolio fall 2013

Existing Plan

Client: Textron Task: Reconfiguration of mail room and desk work station locations as well as an additional private office.

Page 16: Portfolio fall 2013

New Plan

The boxes indicate the space needed for and the location of the new work stations. The middle room is the new location for the mail room. As requested by the client, I created 48” walking space between all desk clusters and walls. Lastly, there is an additional private office.

Additional Private Office

The light green circle indicates the location of the additional private office added.

Page 18: Portfolio fall 2013

The client had (3) 24” x 48” and (3) 18” x 48” wire shelves and needed (12) 24” x 48” and (6) 18” x 48”. The light green circle points out where the original 3 were and will continue to be located. The dark green circle indicates where the additional wire shelves will be located.

Client: Workplace Resource Group Task: Workplace Resource Group, the company I was an intern for this

summer, is an expanding company and needs room to grow. They want to include an additional workstation in the design office space while keeping three sets of lateral files, an existing workstation, and a conference table and chairs.

VHA VHA is a client I worked a lot with most of the summer. I helped other designers working on this project with installation drawings. I placed floor core locations

in the drawings as well as tagged where various furniture pieces are to be placed.

Page 24: Portfolio fall 2013

Power Tagging for VHA

The average person would not understand this type of

tagging, however, to an electrician these are quick and easy tags for them to understand. For example,

S-R-PL mean Storage-Right-Power Left. In

other words, this furniture piece contains storage and it is located on the right of the piece and the entrance of the power cord should

come from the left.

Page 25: Portfolio fall 2013

Above, I have delineated what the furniture is in each conference area for the building.

Delineation Tagging for VHA

Page 26: Portfolio fall 2013

As you can see on the left I have tagged furniture pieces to match the tag in the specifications so that it is easy for the installers to know where each

piece it to be placed.

Floor Core Location for VHA

Above shows a portion of a floor plan with floor core locations. The red rectangles with dimensions indicate where the floor cores may be located.

Placing Floor Cores

During my summer internship, I did a lot of design work locating and adding dimensions to floor core locations for quite a few projects.
