CONCEPTUAL BUILDINGS
Drawing from imagination is one of my preferred ways to
explore various spatial forms. These conceptual ideas in
my mind later became a modern architectural structures.

All of these fragments are a true architectural gems from
Lithuania. Two bigger compositions are an observational
drawings of the Pazaislis monastery in Kaunas, Lithuania.
The tiny sketch in the right lower corner conveys the view of
an old catholic church in Kelme, Lithuania. Every building
was drawn from observation, visiting the exact location.

ENVIRONMENTS
Within this compilation of sketches I’ve tried to capture the
exact mood of every space individually. Trying to emphasize
details and the relationship among the elements overall.

VEHICLES AND AIRCRAFT
I found drawing vehicles and aircraft to be an excellent way
for practicing curved forms because of their aerodynamic
shapes. All of these four drawings above were drawn using
the same principles of sculpting along the construction
lines. This time I left all the sections and construction
lines visible to help spectator read the form more clearly.

Volumetric ObjectsDIGITAL RENDERING10
This is a set of experimental form sketch renderings done
using a graphics tablet. I use this digital technique to learn
how light and shadow behave on my imaginative forms. I
pick a light direction and the angle it hits the ground surface
and then I begin to apply light and dark values to my form.
VOLUMETRIC OBJECTS
2. Placing rendered objects in an environment like this
enhance the feeling of my abstract approach to this little
project that I’ve called “Volumetric Objects”. A background
provides a nice contrast against the sharp edges of the objects.
1. This object is a connection of little modules that intersect
with each other. The basic form reminds the flow of a zig
zag lines, so the rendering process took the least time
to complete this because of repeating modular blocks.
3. During the experimentation in rendering process, I found
this roof shape to be very interesting because of the light and
shadow play. Probably such a roof like this will look different
in any part of the daytime according to the position of sun.
Edgaras Černikas Portfolio 11
4. This object was the first from the series. It has many surfaces
facing the light at different angles, so each surface has a unique
value of light. Adding a little of brick and wood texture gives a
hint of the materials which have been applied to this object.
5. Rendering this structure required more time to complete
than the other ones. This is because of the big amount of
surfaces facing in many directions, so I spent some time
thinking about the light values for each surface individually.

I was asked to create an illustrated map of the Pakruojis
Manor area that is located in Lithuania. The request was
to represent all of the buildings and objects of interest in
an illustrative form. I traveled to manor by myself and took
many reference photos of buildings and other important
objects that must be modeled and included into the map.
Edgaras Černikas Portfolio 17
I decided to put the same
amount of detail in each of
the objects. Everything was
modeled on a single plane and
the placement of the 3D models
was done using a googlemaps
aerial image as a reference.
During the next stage of the project I’ve established the
angle of view for the upcoming map and converted all of my
3D modeled elements into 2D lineworks. Now I changed
my working environment into a image-editing software
and added additional elements such as terrain, water,
trees and animals. Turn the next page to see the results.

Poster “Entertainment in Manor’s Smithy”GRAPHIC DESIGN20
The concept behind this poster is to reflect the main activities in Pakruojis manor’s smithy. Text
in the poster declares that with the guidance of a blacksmith, every visitor can make his own
nail of happiness or a coin with an imprint of a manor’s palace graphic.
POSTER “ENTERTAINMENT IN MANOR’S SMITHY”
Edgaras Černikas Portfolio 21
I designed this poster using a warm color palette to make
associations of fire and burning iron. A condensed font
deals with the vertical layout. Stylized graphics of a coin
and a nail were added to visualize the objects of choice.

Once I did a research on a impact of information graphics
around us. These visual signs got me curious and thinking what
creates a perfect graphic that convey some kind of information
to us. I had analyzed the iconic examples of our era and
put my findings together in this booklet that I had designed.

Palanga Exhibition Pavilion Redesign CompetitionPROJECTS26
This competition encouraged all design enthusiasts to
compete and introduce fresh ideas on how to redesign an
old exhibition pavilion that is located in Palanga, Lithuania.
As a participant, I’ve made this proposal of the pavilion.
My solution was to make the unused
roof space open for the public so that
they can observe the environments
and the internal courtyard space. I
had reshaped the basic rectangle
shape plan of the building and
made curved cut out in one of the
sides to create additional entrance.

Historic Ballroom Redesign: Stages 1 - 3PROJECTS28
This ballroom building is a part of a Pakruojis Manor
complex in Lithuania. It’s origins are from an early 1890th
year when the baron’s Von Der Ropp’s generation owned
the manor complex. The main purpose of the ballroom
was to held luxury celebrations of the most important events
in manor’s and baron’s life. As the time had passed and
with the end of a baron’s era, during the post-war period
the interior of the building was turned into a sports hall.
The whole manor complex is under the restoration works and
this ballroom is one of the first buildings that was restored.
A ballroom’s building is situated in the central area of the
Pakruojis Manor complex and is only a minute away from the
main palace building. Nowadays as it is fully restored it quickly
became one of the most popular spots among the visitors
of the manor and is also a popular landmark in the area.
Nowadays, one of my clients that works with a restoration
projects of this manor had an idea to restore the premises
to it’s original purpose. Client asked me to make a
proposals for a new interior look. So the following
images explain all of the redesign process in full detail.
How It All BeganLocation

STAGE 2: WORK IN PROGRESS
We decided to do a full repaint of
the room and then decorate it with
ornamentics using a stencil cut outs.
I’ve made a research on a decorative
elements of that time and designed the
stencils for the floor, walls and ceiling.

Designing Chandeliers
One of the most decorative accents of the room are these
black chandeliers that I’ve designed using a 3D software.
At later stage the blacksmiths made an exact model using
my design as a reference. After fitting the chandeliers the
room immediately became more impressive and luxurious.

STAGE 3: RESULTS AND OPENING CEREMONY
After more than a hundred years the room regained it’s
original purpose and the opening ceremony began with
a warm melody spreading out of the cello. It was a big
moment for me and my assistant because after many weeks
spent on the works we can finally present the results for the
public. The feedback from the people was positive and we
were very happy that all of the ideas were put into reality.
Opening Ceremony
Edgaras Černikas Portfolio 33
Now the ballroom occupies such an events like weddings,
classical music concerts, various ceremonies and more.
Due to it versatility it became popular area among the
visitors of the manor. More and more people get to know
the story behind the ballroom because of the various
events in the manor. Now all of the main buildings in the
manor area are fully restored and open for the public.
During the summertime, visitors of the ballroom can relax
in a courtyard outside that invites to spend some romantic
time in a decorated environment. Also many of the outdoor
events in the manor are being organized in this place.
It was an outstanding experience to be a part of this redesign
project. I got familiarized with many historic facts of the
manor and it’s cultural life. Staying in this manor during the
summer helped me to shape a vision for this ballroom project.
Current Activities
1. View of a fully redesigned ballroom
2. Welcome speech at the opening ceremony
3. Cello players playing at the event
4. Chandelier with the lights on
5. Final ceiling ornaments
6. Final arch niche ornaments
7. Courtyard area and main entrance
