SITE DESCRIPTION: The project site is located at the heart of the Helsinki Univer-sity campus. It is isolated from the urban area and borders both the Gulf of Finland and an important highway junction.The site is characterized by a “brick” type archi-tecture, widely deployed in the abundant nature of the site.

Le site du projet est situé au coeur du campus universitaire d’Helsinki. Celui-ci est isolé de l’aire urbaine et borde, à la fois, le golfe de Finlande et une importante bretelle d’autoroute. Le site est caractérisé par une architecture de br-iques, très déployé dans la nature abondante du lieu.

The project implementation is guided by two main axes in a way that emphasizes the per-spective of the Aalto building and respects the architectural “modesty” of the site.The first axis connects the main residential areas through the ancient tree-lined alley and the second connects the university sports centre to the seafront promenade.In addition, a transparent roof connects the buildings and gives a base to the Alvar Aalto building.

L’implantation du projet est guidé par deux axes principaux, tout en accentuant la per-spective sur le bâtiment Aalto et en respect-ant la “pudeur” architecturale du lieu. Le premier axe relie les zones principales d’habitation en passant par l’ancienne allée boisée et l’autre relie le centre sportif univer-sitaire à la promenade maritime. De plus, une toiture transparente connecte les bâtiments tou en appuyant l’assise de l’édifice d’ Alvar Aalto.

GROUND FLOOR PLAN

The faculty of art, architecture and design is conceived as a permanently linked whole. Firstly, as a visual link between the two bod-ies of the faculty, and secondly as a program-matic link between the different fields.For this, the different studios are connected by mezzanines and are adjustable according to their usage.The large circulation spaces are appropriable by the students.The studios open to the outside, are the showcase of the faculty.

La faculté d’art, d’architecture et de design est imaginée comme un tout en lien constant. Dans un premier temps, en lien visuel entre les deux entités de la faculté, et en lien pro-grammatique entre les différents domaines.Pour cela, les ateliers de différentes natures sont connectés par les mezzanines et sont ainsi modulables selon les usages.Les vastes espaces de circulation sont égale-ment appropriables par les étudiants.Les ateliers ouverts sur l’extérieur forment la vitrine de la faculté.

SITE DESCRIPTION: The project is located outside of the urban area of Rome, in the heart of a vast industrial zone where the exhibi-tion park is localized.The Tiber and the railway mark the limits of the site which is characterized by the widespread de-ployment of brownfield warehouses.

Le projet se situe à l’extérieur de l’aire urbaine de Rome, au coeur d’une vaste zone industrielle dans laquelle est localisé le parc des expositions. Le Tibre et la voie ferrée marquent les limites du site. Celui-ci est caractérisé par le large déploie-ment des entrepôts dans une nature en friche.

AA SECTION

The master plan of the project is guided by an axis connecting the station to the marina. This contradicts the uniform urbanization of the site, which follows a strict frame denying the river.The entrance to the exhibition park is thus moved to the end of the building allowing a link with this new axis.Beyond the new entry, the ambition of the project is to integrate the river in the urbani-zation of the site.

Le plan masse du projet est guidé par un axe reliant la gare à la marina. Cet axe contredit l’urbanisation uniforme du site, qui suit une trame stricte niant le fleuve.L’entrée du parc des expositions est ainsi déplacée à l’extrémité du bâtiment pour per-mettre un lien avec ce nouvel axe.Au-delà de la nouvelle entrée, l’ambition du projet est de faire “entrer” le fleuve dans l’urbanisation du site.

The new entrance to the exhibition park con-sists of a 100m long ramp allowing direct ac-cess to the central gateway of the building.The structure which includes the ramp, hous-es a restaurant, shops and a covered outdoor relaxation and exhibition space

La nouvelle entrée du parc des expositions se compose selon une rampe de 100m de long permettant l’accès direct à la passerelle cen-trale du bâtiment.La structure qui englobe la rampe accueille un restaurant, des commerces et notamment un espace couvert extérieur, de détente et d’exposition.

SITE DESCRIPTION: The project is located at the end of the boulevard Saint-Lazare, in the structure of the north-south railway junc-tion. The latter marks the clear separation be-tween the popular Prairie district, the North busi-ness district and the Rogier shopping area.

Le projet est situé au bout du boulevard Saint-Lazare, dans la structure de la jonction ferroviaire nord-midi. Celle-ci marque la franche séparation entre le quartier populaire des Prairies , le quarti-er d’affaires Nord et le quartier commerçant de Rogier.

For this work, the program and the project location weren’t defined.At the urban level, the project aims to recre-ate a long gone link between the North, Prai-rie and Rogier districts, while anchoring in a succession of pulse points along the boule-vard St-Lazare.At the programmatic level, the focus is on shopping continuity between the «rue Neuve and the “rue du Brabant”, while preserving the popular aspect of the Prairie district.The SNCB building structure and the junction itself are reused to accommodate a covered market and some shops.

Pour ce travail, le programme et l’implantation du projet étaient à définir. Au niveau urbanistique, le projet tend à recréer un lien révolu entre les différents quartiers Nord, Prairie et Rogier, tout en s’ancrant dans un chapelet de points d’impulsions le long du boulevard St-Lazare.Au niveau programmatique, l’accent se porte sur la continuité commerciale entre la rue neuve et la rue du brabant, tout en préservant l’aspect populaire du quartier Prairie. La structure du bâtiment SNCB et de la jonc-tion elle-même est ainsi réutilisée pour accue-illir un marché couvert et des commerces.

The market which is located at the outlet of the passage Rogier merges with the shops along the junction animating the impenetra-ble wall formed by the railway infrastructure.The public space that unfolds along the axis of the botanical park extends to a public stair-case connecting the place to the train plat-forms. In this context, platforms are becoming an extension of the public space and allow creating an aerial continuity of the botanical park which is constantly perceived between towers around the junction.

Le marché qui se situe à la sortie du passage Rogier et les commerces qui longent la jonc-tion se confondent et animent le mur intra-versable formé par l’infrastructure ferroviaire.L’espace public qui se déploie dans l’axe du parc botanique se prolonge en un escalier public reliant la place aux quais de gare. Dans cette optique, les quais deviennent une pro-longation de l’espace public et permettent de créer continuité aérienne du parc botanique que l’on perçoit constamment entre les tours qui enlacent la jonction.

The new public space that unfolds over the junction can also offer two store windows to the newly implanted shops along the railway infrastructure.Therefore, it isn’t only a public station plat-form but an aerial urban street.In addition, the facade of the future market is removable so you can eventually extend the market outdoors along “la rue Aarscoth” and “la place St-Lazare.

Le nouvel espace public qui se déploie sur la jonction permet également de proposer une double vitrine aux commerces qui viennent s’implanter le long de l’infrastructure ferro-viaire.Il ne s’agit donc plus seulement d’un quai de gare publique mais d’une rue urbaine aéri-enne.De plus, la façade du futur marché couvert est imaginée amovible de façon à pouvoir éventuellement déployer le marché en exté-rieur le long de la rue Aarscoth et sur la place St-Lazare.

SITE DESCRIPTION: The project site extends along the North-South railway junc-tion. The site is characterized by its morphologi-cal multiplicity, “meeting point” of three Brussels municipalities encircling the international Midi station.

Le site du projet s’étend de le long de la jonction ferroviaire Nord-Midi. Le site est caractérisé par la multiplicité morphologique de ses abords, à la rencontre de trois communes bruxelloises qui en-cerclent la gare internationale du Midi.

This project proposes to offer for this diffuse area, cut by the North-South junction, a true picture of an entrance threshold of the Brus-sels capital region.The urban characteristic of the site is a clear absence of references; in fact, the confusion of the various urban strata disturbs the analy-sis of the site as station district.Thus, based on this observation, we devised a district developed over different levels, con-sidering the “soil” as a mass suitable to be ex-truded and hollowed out to aerate the space below the junction.The station is the pulse point of the project; it is enlarged and reconnected to the city by enhancing the commercial axis of the ‘rue du Midi”.

Ce projet propose d’offrir à ce quartier dif-fus et tranché par la jonction Nord-Midi, une véritable image de seuil d’entrée de la région Bruxelles capitale.La particularité urbaine du site réside dans l’absence évidente de niveau de référence; en effet, la confusion des diverses strates ur-baines perturbe la lecture du lieu en tant que quartier de la gare.Ainsi, à la base de ce constat, nous avons im-aginé un quartier développé sur différents niveaux, en considérant le “sol” comme une masse capable à extruder et creuser afin de d’aérer l’espace sous la jonction.La gare constitue le point d’impulsion du pro-jet, elle est agrandie et reconnectée à la ville en accentuant l’axe commercial de la rue du midi.

The presence of the junction is essential here and determinates the nature of the project. It slips under the new height of the rails to provide a new facade and parvis, in direct connection with the subway, in the Midi train station.The commercial gallery is separated from the station to become a commercial street to the scale of the city.The project treatment as a homogeneous mass involves gateways, marked by the im-plantation of large public facilities.

La présence de la jonction est ici détermi-nante de la nature du projet. Celui-ci vient se glisser sous la nouvelle hauteur des rails pour offrir une nouvelle façade et un parvis, en connexion directe avec le métro, à la gare du midi.La galerie commerçante est extraite de la gare pour devenir un axe commerçant à l’échelle de la ville.Le traitement du projet en tant que masse homogène implique des portes d’entrée, marquée par l’implantation de grands équipe-ments publics.

The new station area includes three levels of differentiated public spaces.The first is hollowed and thickens at city level. There is a direct axis starting from the city centre going right inside the Midi train station.The second level is at the ground floor level and is related to the district scale.The last, more local, grows in height and just crosses the mass of the project.

Le nouveau quartier de la gare comporte ainsi 3 niveaux d’espaces publics différenciés.Le premier est creusé et s’épaissit à l’échelle de la métropole. Il constitue un axe direct au départ du centre-ville jusqu’à l’intérieur même de la gare du midi.Le second niveau se situe en rez-de-chaussée et se mesure à l’échelle du quartier.Enfin, le dernier, plus local encore, se dével-oppe en hauteur et vient sillonner la masse du projet.

SITE DESCRIPTION: The project site is located between the railway and the high-way junction in the south of Ans.This area is mostly used as wastelands and is characterized by the punctual presence of in-dustries, agriculture and housing in a diffuse and confused space.

Le site du projet se trouve entre la voie ferrée et la bretelle d’autoroute située au sud de la com-mune de Ans.Cette zone est à grande majorité en friche, elle est caractérisée par la présence ponctuelle d’industries, d’agriculture et de pavillonnaire dans un espace diffus et confus.

The project site is located in the middle of an old mining area. The reconversion of the site’s heaps is the first goal of the project up to im-agine a “heaps walk” in the heights of Liege.The second aim of the project was to give order the confusion between industries, un-cultivated land, agriculture and housing in an interdependent whole, while replacing the station in the centre of the city of Ans.

Le site du projet se trouve en plein coeur du croissant minier. La reconversion des terrils présents sur le site constitue la première am-bition du projet; jusqu’à imaginer une “prom-enade des terrils” dans les hauteurs de la ville de Liège.La seconde ambition du projet était de hiérar-chiser la confusion entre industries, nature en friche, agriculture et pavillonnaire en un tout interdépendant, tout en replaçant la gare de Ans au centre de la commune.

The project is surrounded by the elevated highway junction and the underground rail-way. These two dominant infrastructures which are a priori impassable boundaries become the guiding elements of the composi-tion of the project.The latter has been conceived as two crossing and interdependent strata.The project is thus developed according to three main areas, one production area, a pub-lic use area and a reconversion area.A main axis links the station to the first heap of the “heaps walk.” This axis is the backbone of the district.The housing configuration is conceived in open blocks crossed by green pathways open to soft mobility and facilities necessary for the neighbourhood.Finally, at the edge of the motorway junction, the uncultivated land and the underground river are mastered and doubly exploited. Firstly to produce the energy required for the autonomy of the new district, secondly to master the noise coming from the highway infrastructure.

Le projet est cadré par la bretelle d’autoroute aérienne et la voie ferrée enterrée. Ces deux infrastructures dominantes qui constituent à priori des limites infranchissable sont dev-enus maitresse de la composition du projet.Celui-ci a été imaginé en double strates tra-versantes et interdépendantes.Le projet se développe ainsi selon 3 zones principales, une zone de production, une zone d’usage et une zone de reconversion.Un axe principal relie la gare au premier terril de la “promenade des terrils”. Cet axe con-stitue la colonne vertébrale du quartier.La configuration des logements est imaginée en îlots ouverts traversés par des axes verts accueillant les mobilités douces et les équipe-ments nécessaires à l’échelle du quartier.Enfin, aux abords de la bretelle d’autoroute, la nature en friche et le fleuve enterré sont maitrisés et doublement mis à profit. Premi-èrement pour produire l’énergie nécessaire à l’autonomie du futur quartier, mais aussi pour maitriser les nuisances sonores émises par l’infrastructure autoroutière.

SITE DESCRIPTION: The project is located on a parcel of land of the Chartreuse of Ferrara of the XIIth century.It was restored several times, especially in the XVth and XIXth century, and the surface was ex-panded.Nowadays, the brick chartreuse covers more than 31000 m2.

Le projet est situé sur une parcelle de la char-treuse de Ferrare daté du XIIème siècle.Celle-ci a été agrandie et restaurée à plusieurs reprises, notamment au XVéme et au XIXème siècle.La chartreuse de brique s’étend aujourd’hui sur plus de 31000 m2.


For this project, we first had to make a very precise survey sketch of the parcel to restore.Once the computer transcription of these data was completed, we were able to examine every square inch of this parcel to determine the existing conditions of the building portion. Finally we determined the restoration areas and methods to be used for each of those areas.

Pour ce projet, nous avons dû, dans un pre-mier temps, faire un relevé très précis de la parcelle à restaurer.Une fois la retranscription informatique, de ces données, achevée, nous avons pu examin-er chaque centimètre carré de cette parcelle afin de déterminer les pathologies existantes de cette parcelle d’édifice. Enfin nous avons déterminé des zones de restauration et les méthodes à mettre en oeuvre pour chacune de ces zones.

To conclude this restoration, we have created a small development project to adapt the site to current standards and uses.For this, the public transport services of the site have been redesigned at the urban scale. At the local level, meditation spaces, Infor-mation points on the history of the building and ramps for disabled persons have been designed.

Pour conclure cette restauration nous avons imaginé un projet d’aménagement minime pour adapter le site aux normes et usages ac-tuels du site.Pour cela la desserte du site a été repensée à l’échelle urbaine. À l’échelle locale, des es-paces de recueil, des points d’information sur l’histoire de l’édifice et des rampes handica-pés ont été projetées.

O7 - WORKSHOPAIR SNAIL

In the context of the Biennale of architecture and design, AGORA 2006, I participated in a student workshop, coordinated by the Ger-man architect Hans Walter Muller, to design an inflatable exhibition space.The latter, located at the entrance of the Bi-ennale, made the facade of the event.We have designed a space of three adjoining volumes in the direction of the adjacent river.To do this, we had, in just one month, to de-sign, develop a model and build ourselves this translucent snail.

Dans le cadre de la biennale d’architecture et de design AGORA 2006, j’ai participé à un workshop étudiant sous la coordination de l’architecte allemand Hans Walter Muller, afin de projeter un espace d’exposition gonflable.Celui-ci, situé à l’entrée de la biennale, con-stitué la façade de l’événement.Nous avons ainsi imaginé un espace composé de trois volumes en enfilade en direction du fleuve adjacent.Pour cela, nous avons dû, en l’espace d’un mois, concevoir, modéliser, et construire par nous-mêmes cet escargot translucide.

O8 - WORKSHOPMUSEOLOGIA

For this workshop, located in the Archaeolog-ical Museum of Ferrara, I had to do a museum scenographic job. Not only did I have to con-ceive the disposition of the works but also to design the exhibition stands and the lighting systems. I therefore chose 4 particular works to expose and reflect with intercalated mir-rors, in a semi-outdoor space.

Pour ce workshop, situé dans le musée ar-chéologique de Ferrare, j’ai dû effectuer un travail de scénographie muséologique. Pour cela, j’ai dû imaginer non seulement la dispo-sition des oeuvres mais aussi le design des so-cles d’exposition et des dispositifs lumineux. J’ai ainsi choisi 4 oeuvres en particulier à ex-poser et refléter à l’aide de miroirs intercalés , dans un espace semi-extérieur.
