Like the subway, Godiva Express should be modern, fast, and accessible to all. This concept was implemented through the use of strong, clean horizontal lines, materials, bold architecture and colors, clear direction in terms of way finding for consumer, bold graphics & enlarged demographic to include a younger generation of consumers, while still upholding the quality and luxury associated with the

Godiva brand.

This project was submitted to PAVE’s 2010 Student Design Competition in the Visual Merchandising category sponsored by Godiva Chocolatier Inc,

winning the third place award.

The design of this restarant was inspired by forms created when milk is spilled. This idea is most prominently displayed in the architectural ceiling, which is a custom design made of a lacquered plastic. The super graphic etched on the glass doors suggests to the viewer that their entry into the space caused a reaction onto the ceiling. Everything located under the “spilled milk” ceiling is white, while the surrounding spaces feature recycled barn wood walls and lime green accents.

The program for this studio was to create a mock, satellite office in Cincinnati, Ohio for an established design firm, which required research of the culture, mission, and design of their current offices. IDEO is “an award-winning global design firm that takes a human-centered, design-based approach to helping organizations in the public and private sectors innovate and grow.” They are the developers of “design thinking” - inspiration, ideation, and implementation.

Design thinking was implemented into the design of the Cincinnati office by reimagining how space can be created by the intersecting and overlapping of ideas, volumes, and materials.

The Cubes can be put together by placing the green faces in alignment, completing the line segment circuit. They can also be taken apart to be used separately. LED lights are tucked inside, which can be turned on for additional lighting and to highlight the details

carved into the sides.

The Cubes were constructed as a part of a furniture studio, Spring 2011. Small scale models were created as an initial step to get an understanding of pattern and overall aesthetic of the final design. The final patterns were cut by creating a template in Rhino, and programmed onto a CNC router which cut each piece. Each carved side was coated with polyurethane, giving them a glossy appearance. Finally, the sides were mitered, glued, and clamped. After the drying was complete, the corners were

sanded for a clean edge.

MU StrEATS is a food truck at Miami University, opened in Spring 2012, bringing on-the-go dining to students across campus. The simple design stands out with contrasting red and white color scheme. Bold graphics on either side imitate the street map of

Oxford, Ohio where Miami University is located.

Creative Commons is a capstone project and currently in development.

The program I have chosen is a studio and gallery in Over the Rhine. Main components of this program are studios for photography, drawing, painting, printmaking and ceramics, and journalism classrooms. A portion of the building also houses a small café.

The primary users will be students 14 -18 years of age, living around the downtown of Cincinnati. The goal is to get students into a positive, lively environment where they can learn to express themselves in a healthy manner.
