Exploration and experimentation are what I aim to incorporate most into my photos. Most of my best work will come about when my senses are wide open and ready to grab onto something interesting, whether it’s while travelling, exploring a backyard or house whose owner is unknown, or simply trying something that veers away from what I’m used to, such as incorporating makeup as a tool to create a certain atmosphere, or overexposing a photo on purpose to achieve a specific effect. This realization has pushed me to put a constant effort into trying new things with my photography, putting me into continual experimentation mode, ready for anything. My photos usually revolve around one of two ideas: To record surroundings and observations of the world, or to create and adjust surroundings in order to create a story or make a point. Much of my favourite work is unplanned beforehand, with photos that simply capture observations like hand gestures or similar foreground and background colours between human and non-human objects. When planning my photos in advance, I make an effort to try something I haven’t done before that will add to the story I want to tell, whether it’s finding my way into a certain abandoned factory, glamour-fying a man, or turning a girl into a widowed bride laying across train tracks. Drawing inspiration from life and the world that surrounds us, the possibilities are endless and keep me forever on the hunt for my next photograph.
