URBAN DESIGN - CHATMANHILL NEIGHBORHOOD
FOR URBAN DESIGN CLASS, STUDENTS WERE REQUIRED TO ANALYZE THE CITY OF LUBBOCK'S SURROUNDING URBAN ENVIRONMENTS AND HOW
EACH AREA OF TOWN FUNCTIONED ACCORDING TO ITS ZONING PURPOSE. CHATMANHIIL PROJECT FOCUSED ON AN AREA OF TOWN THAT ONCE FUNCTIONED AS A SUBURB IN EAST LUBBOCK FOR THE AFRICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY, BUT NOW HAS TURNED INTO AN INDUSTRIAL ZONE LITTERED WITH VACANT WAREHOUSES. THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT WAS
TO GIVE THE AREA A NEW IDENTITY BY PROVIDING RECREATIONAL, INTERACTIVE PARK SPACE THAT INCORPORATES SUSTAINABLE ELEMENTS SUCH AS
HARNESSING SOLAR ENERGY, AND COMMUNITY GARDENING.
PLANTING DESIGN - MCDONALD RESIDENCE
AFTER COMPLETING VARIOUS HORTICULTURAL
CLASSES, THE NEXT STEP IN FURTHERING OUR DESIGN ABILITIES WITH PLANT MATERIAL WAS ENGAGING IN THE PLANTING DESIGN CLASS. IN THIS CLASS, WE WERE ASSIGNED A PROJECT THAT
INVOLVED RE-DESIGNING A RESIDENTIAL HOME USING
ELEMENELEMENTS AND STYLES THAT WERE PREFERRED BY THE MCDONALD
RESIDENCE. FOR THIS PROJECT WE
WERE ASKED TO USE ALL XERIC PLANTS TO REDUCE
WWATER USAGE, BUT
AT THE SAME TIME
USE ENOUGH PLANT
MATERIAL TO COVER
UP AREAS THAT
WHERE STRIPPED OF
GRASS THAT HAD
EXIEXISTED BEFORE.
ENTERING OUR FIFTH YEAR AS SENIORS WE HAD TO TAKE A COLLABORATION CLASS THAT CONSISTED OF ARCHITECTS, LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS, AND INTERIOR DESIGNERS WHO WORKED TOGETHER TO CREATE A PROFESSIONAL GRADE PROJECT FOR THE HOLOCAUST MUSEUM OF THE DOWNTOWN WEST-END DISTRICT OF DALLAS. FRACTURING
WWAS THE CONCEPT THE TEAM AND I CAME UP WITH THAT WE
THOUGHT WOULD BEST REPRESENT THE HOLOCAUST. FROM THIS CONCEPT WE CREATED THE SHAPES AND STRUCTURES THAT MAKE THE BUILDING FORMS, EXHIBITS, PLAZAS, REFLECTION PONDS, GARDENS, RAMPS AND PATHWAYS. AFTER PRESENTING OUR FINAL PROJECT THE PROFESSORS OF EACH DISCIPLINE DECIDED THAT OUR CCONCEPT WAS THE BEST OF ALL THE TEAMS, BUT IN THE END PLACED SECOND.

SENIOR PROJECT - UTEP CAMPUS REVITALIZATION
THE FINAL SEMESTER OF OUR SENIOR YEAR, EACH OF US PICKED
OUR OWN SITE LOCATIONS TO ANALYZE, AND DESIGN A PROJECT
THAT REFLECTED OUR DESIGN PREFERENCE AND STYLE. THE SITE I CHOSE WAS THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT EL PASO ALSO
KNOWN AS UTEP. INSPIRATION FOR THE DESIGN CAME FROM HAVING A FAMILIARITY WITH THE UNIVERSITY, AND ACKNOWLEDGING
THTHAT ITS STRONG HISTORIC IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY DESERVED RECOGNITION THROUGH RESTORING ITS IDENTITY. THE REVITALIZATION OF THE SCHOOL’S CENTRAL CAMPUS BY RE-INTRODUCING THE SURROUNDING DESERT ENVIRONMENT INTO CAMPUS LIFE, SEEMED LIKE THE MOST FITTING WAY OF RESTORING
THE UNIVERSITY’S HISTORIC, REGIONAL IDENTITY.
