improved design(prototyping)

Aug 2020 - present

This is a product that I believe is able to improve the lives of those with limited hand dexterity. This is why I decided to take the project beyond the classroom and to make prototypes for a viable product that can be mass manufactured.

I was able to design 3D printed casing that could snap fit shut. This meant that I could open and close the device quickly and make it appear naked from the outside.

ILLUMINATION FEATURE

ILLUMINATION

TRANSLUCENCE

3.3V LED

Having an illumination feature that could light up the keyhole was heavily suggested from all users - trying to insert your keys in the dark can be very difficult.

Shape of part turning provides mechani-cal feedback (particularly comforting for

elderly users)

Fits any key (gaps on each side allow any dimension of key to sit comfortably within the turner).

lubricated metal separator disk for smooth and quiet turning.

Inductive charging dock compatability (removing the need of hand dexterity to

needed to plug in a cable).

Illumination feature lights up the key-hole for better view in the dark (de-vice doubles up as flashlight).

All buttons are internal, giving the device external simplicity (a button on the outside can suggest a par-ticular orientation at which the device should be used;

which is problematic)

CONTINUATIONI had feedback that the previous design looked a bit too alien for the target

market (which is mostly elders).

I redesigned the product with some friendly semiotics.

I didn't use the cage system for the first working prototype; I needed to be sure the components were secured really firmly.FIRST WORKING PROTOTYPE

The final product has no external switches. To activate a particular turning direction the user nudges the device clockwise or anticlockwise.

MELODY

The project aimed to create a robot that constantly responds to a stimulus.

This robot mechanically plays music at a tempo set by a person's clapping rate.
