UL008 RIGA URBAN LIVING ROOMS

URBAN LIVING ROOMS investigates the possibility of a territorial size scale project with the intention to enhance, at their most, the opportunities offered by a similar area, in creating a high-quality, aboundantly equipped settlement, available to a large range of potential users and beneficiaries. The area extension, its nearness to the city centre make this place an exceptional site, from where to start a recoil in planning the expansion of the

city. This way the city becomes enriched in new highly-standardized residential areas, together with spaces, facilities and resources headed in the cultural and recreational activities both of the whole urban community, and of a large amount of tourists and

users of Lettish sectors of excellence.

URBAN LIVING ROOMS is principally meant to point out a strategic approach to the indicated subject, able to read the specific environmental condi-tions and economic dynamics, but at the same time the project wishes to prime a wide range of cultural, social and economic processes.

A similar approach aims to retrace, with a wide spectrum, the whole area in question and the nearest zones (which stands for the required flexibility of a long-term project), by means of environmental sustainability criteria, architectural sensitivity and multi-functional uses of the site, able to favour

social exchanges and a tuneful relationship with nature.Such a strongly characterized intervention of town planning, together with sustainable architecture, will enable the involved operators (inhabitants, the public administration, property developers and architects) to cooperate in a wide-ranging operation of urban marketing, stimulating interest at

both a national and international level.

In URBAN LIVING ROOMS the relationship between architecture and landscape is placed at the very centre of the project.

As a matter of fact, we reckon that the problem to solve is not exclusively a problem of town planning over an extensive area, but of landscape designing of the territory where natural and artificial elements will merge together, as commensurable mat-

ters, to originate a recognizable sign. That new landscape generates a strong identity from the intervention and the place

in question, so as to become the very landmark of the territory.

The polygonal irregular matrix allows the required flexibility of a long-term project. It identifies different zones, that can follows different stages of construction.

The various “urban living rooms” could be constructed chronologically (one after the other) or completed zone by zone either according to demand in the real estate market (residential mix, accommodation types, provision of services …) or according

to the requirements of the Riga Municipality as they unfold over time.

URBAN LIVING ROOMS investigates a urban frame which arranges empties and fillings as a unique matter and which proceeds by landscape

fragments, rather than by isolated pieces, handling the matter as a fragmented, complex organism, which however remains a unique whole. The separation between urban fabric and park is blurred in our project

into a continuity where different categories intersect with and penetrate into each other, but never lose their identity. More than that, the border

of contact between natural and artificial elements is exploited to the full, so as to reach the maximum of visual pleasure.

As if it would reproduce the uncertainty of its subject matter, the project-seeks to create spaces with a well-defined identity, but without any

description, preferring to trace a condition of expectation and suspen-sion for a town still evolving.

GREEN NET 2012URBAN REGENERATION AND CULTURAL CENTRE IN LANGHIRANO (PR-IT) -I PRIZE

The new cultural centre is the starting point of the general restoring and reconnection of public spaces in the urban area. The complexity of the open spaces create an interesting net-system that involves also a new waterfront toward the small river of the city. The cultural centre is an aggregation pole for the citizens and the local entrepreneurs

RODANO CITY HALLRODANO CITY HALL (MI - IT) - II PRIZE

The new Rodano City Hall is a modern interpretation of a court-building: it is integrated in a urban cotext rich of paths, open spaces and particular sightseens. The building is trying to assimilate this kind of spacial complexity and to become the „junction point“ of these spaces. The typical brick arcade is inteded to evocate the idea of monumentality and the bond with the local materials.

SAPPADA TURISTIC MASTERPLANSAPPADA WINTER SPORT TURISTIC CENTRE (BL - IT) - II PRIZE

The Project develops the idea of a masterplan that links together the landscape masterplan and an architectural one.The redesign of a huge turistic area is inteded to create an unitary image to this unique place, with a strategic approach that involves environmental sustainability, architectonic sensivity and social-economic-turistic developement in the full respect of nature.

The plug-in is the necessary element to adapt and complete the system: it completes the functions that the structural cell and the indoor devices itself cannot satisfy. It increases the possibilities of variation and integration of the system in different context. Thus, the plug-in is necessary and complementary to the contextualiza-tion od the system.

Indoor devices are intended to satisfy the requirement of the didactic spaces: flexibility, convertibility and interactability. The aim of these devices is to optimize indoor spaces. These spaces are designed to support active learning.

PARK OF PARKSMASTERPLAN IN DOSSON (TV - IT) PARK OF SCHOOLS

The Park of parks is an academic project :it is a school centre diffused in a green area that wants to involve all the characteristics of the local landscape, from the urban gardens to the vegetable gardens, till the lacustrine gardens.Inside this gardens the schools are designed to create an „open air“ school system that is is tucked away among the nature and the local landscape.
