Developing Nations (South East Asian Countries) are coming up
with Mega Projects and these Mega Projects has become
cornerstone of Nation Building. But mostly these projects are not
proposed within city, all the mega projects proposed in these
countries are outskirts of the city.
Main reason for these trends is lack of infrastructure available in
the city. The available infrastructure is very poor and it can not
support the development which the Mega project is
demanding. Same conditions with the built environment of the
existing city.
But taking Mega Project as an opportunity for an existing city, one
can upgrade the infrastructure of the existing city through Mega
Project in terms of transport, sanitation, water supply, recreational
areas etc.
Once the existing city is up to date with infrastructure and quality
of built environment then only one should go for peripheral
(edge) development.
The selection of site for any project should not be decided by the
cost of the land and availability of the land, but it should be
decided by the requirement of the project and benefits and
after effect of the project.

The Courtyard by Marriott, strategically located at the Trade Center, in
Gurgaon,is an approximately 165,000 sf hotel development
including 199 guest rooms and suites, meeting rooms, two
restaurants, and associated supporting functions. The project is
envisioned as an exclusive destination, set back from the street and
arrived at through a series of elegant, understated limestone walls and
lush landscaping. The heart of the project is an inwardly focused
landscaped courtyard, accessed at the ground floor off the lobby, and
stepping up dramatically to extensive terraced gardens and swimming
pools. The guest rooms and suites are located in a 13 story tower, topped
by an executive lounge with expansive territorial views. The building form
is conceived as a dynamic, metal clad slab, punctuated at the center
by the stone guest room block. This inward-focused development is
capped with vibrant sloping roof forms that reach out to the context.
