    PRAYER REQUESTS

Please pray for the deceased of the parish, especially those who passed away recently. May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Please remember in your Masses and prayers, the sick whose names have been placed before our altar this week. If possible, try to participate in one of our Masses to join fellow worshipers in praying for them.

Thank you for spreading the joy of Christmas by providing a Christmas gift for someone in our parish community. It has been a difficult year for many but those who have lost their jobs due to coronavirus worry how to feed their families and not gifts. You extended your hearts to

many, especially the children. Yes, you provided joy, but you also provided hope. Thank you for your kindness.

EUCHARISTIC INTENTION The bread and wine for Sunday, December 20th through December 26th, 2020 was donated in memory of the Ramos and Regaled Families by Luis, Madeleine and Andie Ramos Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Lucie, Thank you to everyone who gave toward our Flowers, Arts and Environment Offering. Your gifts helped provide much of this beauty that we see in our church and we are grateful to honor and praise our Lord in such beauty. Despite a challenging year, many of you stepped forward to provide for our Christmas Giving Tree. Your offered much to bring joy to our families in need – from children to adults. Every one of the wishes on the Christmas tree were taken and provided for. Requests included food, diapers, toys, clothes for children and adults and so much more. Your helping hands decorated the church and our lawn with the annual nativity, and this brought all of us joy and hope for a better year ahead. It is important today for each of us to count our blessings. God is good–all the time. We wish you and your families a blessed Christmas and New Year,

Joyfully, The Friars, Deacons and Staff of St. Lucie

ST. LUCIE KITCHEN NEEDS YOUR HELP

The St. Lucie Soup Kitchen provides food to those who need it most. It is our opportunity to give through the Corporeal Works of Mercy. The pandemic encouraged us to serve Thursday dinners in the parking lot at noon since social distancing forbid using the hall. So far, we are handing out more than 300 meals each Thursday! This tells us that there is a need to feed at noon. The noon schedule will continue. The Kitchen survives solely on donations – your donations! You can help in the following ways:

    1) Provide monetary donations so that needed food items may be purchased. Make a check payable to St. Lucie Catholic Church. Mark “Soup Kitchen” on memo line on check.

    2) Provide needed canned/boxed foods (within date). Not only does the kitchen cook with these foods but food bags are made (in addition to the hot meals) and distributed as cars line up to pick up their meals. The bags aren’t huge but do help provide something extra for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Everything we have is given out weekly.

    3) Provide volunteer hours in preparing and serving those in need.

    4) Volunteer for a couple hours each Thursday afternoon to wash dishes used in food preparation. The volunteer must be committed and arrive on time. Contact Lourdes at 333-4252.

If you can help in any way, please contact Loretta Barnes at 878-1215. Remember, for every $25 or more donated, the office will provide you with a keepsake certificate that you may give as a gift (birthday, anniversary, death … to name a few).

CHURCH POOR BOXES There are four “Poor Boxes” located in the church: one above each table beside St. Michael (as you enter or depart the Church.) Two additional poor boxes are located by the side entrance/exit doors. Your contributions truly go to help the poor. The needs are many and we do our best to provide for our sisters and brothers who need help. Thank you for all you do!

    BAPTISM PLANNING A BAPTISM?

The information below is intended to give a summary explanation of the process to follow to have your child baptized at St. Lucie. The following is a general outline of the process for baptizing children younger than seven years old: • Age—The child must be younger than seven years old. If

the child is seven years old or older, he or she will have to attend classes in our Religious Education Program.

    • Parents—The parents of the child must be registered and practicing members of St. Lucie Church. Parents, not godparents or grandparents, must ask to have their child baptized.

    • Sunday Mass Attendance—Parents must be registered

for at least four months and attend Sunday masses each week. We ask that parents use their offertory envelopes so as to provide a record of their mass attendance.

    • Baptismal Class—The process begins with the parents

of the child attending a baptismal preparation class. You may take the class before the baby is born. Our church offers these classes in English and Spanish. The English class is given on the second Wednesday of every month starting at 7:00 p.m. and the Spanish class is given on the

first Wednesday of every month starting at 7:00 p.m. The class is given in the Parish Office. You must call a few days before the class to confirm the date and time and to pre-register. Only the parents of the child are required to attend. We do not require godparents to attend the class, but it is recommended .

    • Baptismal Preparation Booklet—Parents will be given

a Baptismal Preparation Booklet at the class. This booklet will be used as the primary means of preparation for the parents. The parents will have to fill out all the necessary information required in the booklet as well as provide all necessary documents. This is described in more detail in the booklet.

    • Setting a Date—When the booklet has been completely

filled out and all necessary documents have been obtained, parents may then bring the completed booklet along with the documents to the office. After the booklet and documents have been reviewed you will be contacted. A date for the Baptism will be set for at least one month after you have been contacted.

    • Stipend—The stipend for baptisms is $25.00 and should

be handed in with the booklet. • Baptismal Certificate— The Baptismal Certificate for

your child will be given to you after the baptism or it will be mailed to you shortly after the baptism.

The class is usually offered in English on the second Wednesday of every month, and in Spanish on the first Wednesday of every month. Class begins at 7:00 PM in the Parish Office Conference Room located at 425 SW Irving Street. Parents are asked to phone the Parish Office before the class to confirm date and time. All baptismal requirements are outlined in a booklet that will be distributed at the baptismal class. Upon fulfilling and submitting the baptism booklet, all is reviewed and if all requirements have been met, a date for baptism will be set (but no sooner than one month.) Baptisms are celebrated at 12:45 PM on Sundays. Spanish Baptisms: 1st and 3rd Sundays, English Baptisms: 2nd and 4th Sundays. Older candidates wishing to be confirmed must first complete an adult religious education program. SACRAMENT OF FIRST EUCHARIST: First Eucharist is usually celebrated in the second grade. Parents who are registered members of the parish are to contact the Director of Religious Education at (772) 878-1215 to register their child for the First Eucharist Program beginning first grade. Preparation is a two-year program! SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE: Marriages are celebrated on Fridays at various times and Saturdays at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM only. Engaged couples should contact the church office a minimum of six months in advance in order to complete the necessary preparation. At least one member of the couple MUST be a registered and participating member of the parish for a minimum of six months prior to initially contacting the church. If the annulment of a previous marriage (Catholic, Non-Catholic, or civil) is required before a Catholic remarriage can take place, please contact the Annulment Advocate, Anne Tienter or Rosemary Konas. For more information call (772) 878-1215. SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION: Reconciliation is celebrated each Saturday from 2:30 – 3:30 PM in the church, or by prearranged appointment with one of the staff priests. It is also celebrated on First Friday from 7:00 to 7:20 AM and 8:00 to 8:20 AM. Seasonal Reconciliation services are also held during both Advent and Lent. “First Reconciliation” for children is celebrated each February for second grade religious education students.
