Popcorn Orders Due Soon Scouts have been stopping by to pick up theirpopcorn prizes!

Here are pictures of the first two to reach over$1,500 in Sales.

Parents, make sure you know when sales aredue to your Unit Popcorn Kernel.

Popcorn Kernels, make sure you arecommunicating with your Scouts and theirparents. Unit orders will be due through theonline Trails End System on October 14th.

A quick link to that website is http://sell.trails-end.com/. Make sure you give yourself enoughtime to get your sales entered by Scout andstill meet the deadline.

Camp Builders!

Youth Protection Training for CubScout through Boy Scouts, orVenturing Youth Protection Trainingfor Venturing is required for all BSAregistered volunteers, regardless oftheir position.

New leaders are required to take YouthProtection Training before they submittheir application for registration. Thecertificate of completion for thistraining must be submitted at the timeapplication is made and beforevolunteer service with youth begins.

Youth Protection Training must berenewed every year. (This is a MidnightSun Council policy and differs from BSANational Policy.) If a volunteer's YouthProtection Training record is not currentat the time of charter renewal, thevolunteer will not be re-registered.

The course is available to take online atwww.my.scouting.org for your specific programinvolvement, Cub Scout, Boy Scout, andVenturing.

You can also check with your District TrainingChair to see if there is an in person trainingavailable.

The Camp Builders are individualsinterested in improving our camp,Lost Lake.

They will assist Ranger Rick in minormaintenance work, such as painting,hammering, etc. Professionalskills are not necessary, but awillingness to help out is.

Know any Eagle Scouts who could usescholarships to help supportsome higher education?

Good news! The National EagleScout Association (NESA)Scholarship application processis now open. NESA has shared an overviewwith more details on its website.

The application process allows Eagle Scoutsto access hundreds of thousands of dollars inscholarship money. Interested Eagle Scoutsneed to act quickly to make sure they applybefore the October 31, 2016 deadline.

Eagle Scouts can access applicationdetails here. Individual scholarship award amounts rangeup to $50,000, depending on the focus of thespecific scholarship for which an Eagle Scoutis applying.Be sure to visit the NESA site for full detailsand requirements for applying. NESA alsooffers an FAQ that answers key questionsmany applicants may have.

Applicants are encouraged to read the entireFAQ before applying.

The available scholarships fall into two maincategories, academic and merit.

Academic Scholarships

According to NESA, academicscholarships are based on school andScouting participation, academicperformance, and financial need.Applicants must score a minimum 1800SAT (if taken before January, 2016),1290 (if taken after March, 2016), or 28ACT to apply.NESA also states that academicscholarship applicants must be EagleScouts applying during their senior yearof high school. Exception: Scouts whoseEagle Scout boards of review are heldafter October 31 of their senior year mayapply during the next scholarship cyclein the following year even though theymay be in college by this time.Winners may receive a scholarship onetime only.

The program is open to Eagle Scouts,under 19 years of age.

The award will be based on a themeessay by the scout.

The National Award is $10,000 for thewinner, $6,000 for the 1st runner-up,and $4,000 for the 2nd runner-up.

NYLT 2017

Date: June 4th -10th

Location: Twin Bears Camp,MP30 Chena HotSprings Road,Fairbanks, Alaska

Only 48 slots are available for each courseso register early!

The NYLT six-day course centers around theconcepts of what a leader must BE,what a leader must KNOW, and what a leadermust DO.

The key elements are then taught with a clearfocus on HOW TO.

The emphasis of each session is not onlyknowledge but also giving the participants a"Toolbox of Skills" that equips them with the"How."

Who is Eligible to attend?All youth leaders in Boy Scouts/Varsityprograms, 14 years of age or older by the firstday of the course, who have achieved FirstClass rank, completed Introduction toLeadership Skills For Troops (ILST) andbe recommended by their unit adult leader.

Venturing and Sea Scout youth participantsmust be 14-20 years old, have completed theonline "Crew Officer Orientation," and the(VLSC) Venturing Leadership Skills Course,OR the new online (ILSC) Introduction toLeadership Skills for Crews.

Here is a partial list of some of the items:

1) A new pavilion in Joy Campsite thanks toTroop 38 (Contact the Earl & Pat Cook ServiceCenter at 452-1976, if your unit would like toadopt a campsite too).

2) The LDS Family Camp cleared brush,smoothed the road by the waterfront, andimproved the entrance to the Nature Trail.

3) The new Ranger Building and Pole Barnhave been completed. Thank you Richard,Steve, and Bobby!!

4) The Foundation forthe new Shotgun Rangehas been set

5) A High AdventureCabin is almostcomplete, and it will include USB ports for youruse.

6) The Alyeska Building has been removed,and a parking lot is being put in its place. Eventually, the parking lot will have electricity toplug your cars in, and possibly a section forRVs.

7) New wood boxes have been made forthe campsites.

Really!This is your camp and you should feel proud ofwhat has been accomplished to improve thecamp for our Scouts. If you haven't had achance to see these new things, you shouldtake a drive out and look around. Just giveRichard a heads up, so he knows to let you in.

Cub Scout Council Rock

On the weekend of September 23rd, 2016 approximately 5 Cub Scout Packs with about 100 participants

including parents, Scouts and familymembers enjoyed a day of activity at ChenaLakes Recreation Facility.

The theme for the event was Olympics tocommemorate the 2016 summer Olympicsheld in Brazil. The Cubs enjoyed activities totest their strength at a shuttle run, push-ups, situps. Cubs also, enjoyed learning how to builda fire to boil water to cook their lunch and thento dive into the frigid Chena Lakes water toearn the right to be recognized as a Polar BearPlunge participant along with a birch medallionto commemorate the experience.

Scouts also fished to see who could catch themost fish.

Fall Camp-O-Ree @Moose Mountain

Approximately 75participants enjoyed thefall camp-0-ree whichwas held for the first time at the MooseMountain Ski Resort.

The theme of the camp-o-ree was Olympics, tocommemorate the 2016 summer Olympicsheld in Brazil.

Along with many physicals activities such aspush-ups/sit ups and shuttle races, Scouts were able to throw knives/axes, builda fire to boil water, relearn knots

and first aid, set up a Wall tent.

The event was capped with a Dutch oven cookoff/bbq pot luck. Hungry Scouts devouredpizza, shepherd's pie, chicken with dumplingsand an assortment of breads and desserts.

A special thanks goes out to Troop 16 adultLeaders: Will Cole, Tim Arnold, Kirk Sagers,Brigg Neibaur, Mike Poulsen for their help inorganizing a quality program.Back to Top

Scouting for Food Special Thanks toTroop 42!

They were the onlyUnit that participatedin Scouting for Foodthis year.

They had 22 Scouts and parents help with thedistribution of the door hangers and collectionof the food.

They turned in 264lbs of food to the FairbanksCommunity Food Bank. If your Unit participates in a Food Drive pleasesend us a picture and let us know how muchyou collected.
