Polycom® RealPresence® Medialign™
System Overview
The desire to meet quickly with teammates near and far, share ideas, and collaborate on critical projects
has fueled the demand for visual collaboration. Polycom® RealPresence® Medialign™ supports
interoperability with mainly Unified Communication deployments, including Microsoft ® Lync®, Microsoft®
Skype® for Business, and BroadSoft UC-One®. Polycom® RealPresence® Medialign™ solutions deliver
the industry’s best video collaboration with an innovative, modern design that deploys anywhere.
RealPresence Medialign includes everything you need to deploy video collaboration systems.
RealPresence Medialign offers single-SKU ordering with patented no-tools-required installation in any
location. Perfect for medium to large rooms, RealPresence Medialign comes complete with single or dual
55" or 70" LED monitors, high-fidelity audio, tabletop microphone arrays, Polycom® EagleEye™ cameras,
and the RealPresence® Group Series® 500 video system.
RealPresence Medialign offers a best-in-class collaboration experience with up to1080p60. The solution
also includes hands-free camera operation with Polycom® EagleEye™ Producer for dynamic speaker
locating technology or Polycom® EagleEye™ Director, for dynamic room framing. Polycom® NoiseBlock™
and Polycom® Acoustic Fence™ technologies remove distracting non-speech sounds like typing, shuffling
papers, and even barking dogs. Polycom® RealPresence Touch™ replaces confusing remote controls
with a simple touch-screen interface.
Polycom® SmartPairing™ connects with your mobile devices for sharing and annotating content from your
device, the web, and cloud storage. A virtual whiteboard enables everyone both in and out of a call to
share and annotate content using optional touch screen monitors and embedded VisualBoard technology.
For collaboration over standard IP networks, users can use Polycom® People+Content IP™ application
on their computer to share content or use HDMI and VGA (DB-15HD) inputs.
Customize the System
The RealPresence Medialign is made of standard components from Polycom and components
manufactured for Polycom based on a design Polycom has licensed. The displays are custom for this
product and are not available on the open market and cannot be used for other applications.

Other options which may be considered for the RealPresence Medialign include the following:
● Additional Polycom tabletop or ceiling microphone arrays, up to a total of 4, can be added.
● By using additional ceiling microphone arrays the Polycom RealPresence Group Series 500 codec
supports the Polycom Acoustic Fence. The Acoustic Fence is used to capture audio from within a
virtual fence, created with the Polycom ceiling microphone arrays, while blocking audio and noises
from outside, enabling video collaboration in open workspaces.
● Multipoint software, 5150-65081-001.

Polycom® RealPresence® Medialign™
Systems
The RealPresence Medialign systems require a single dedicated 20A AC electrical circuit and a LAN
connection.
Software licenses for 1080p and native Microsoft interoperability with Skype® for Business are included.
The system ships with the RealPresence Group remote control which can be used in conjunction with the
RealPresence Touch. The RealPresence Touch requires a LAN connection which provides PoE. In lieu of
the PoE, you can order the PoE power inserter (2200-42740-xxx) separately.
Overview of the interface-s™
The interface-s™ provides input connectivity for one analog and one digital laptop computer (display and
audio).
Automatic input sensing, advanced signal format detection, smooth auto switching and high performance
scaling/optimization. Housed in an ergonomic, stylish surface mounted enclosure complete with a simple
seven-button control interface providing users with intuitive operation.
The system automatically scales the video input signal to give the best possible size and aspect ratio.
The following figure identifies the features of the interface-s device.

HDMI + 3.5mm Audio Jack Digital video/audio laptop input. The 3.5mm audio input may be used for HDMI
sources without embedded audio.
Position and Placement
The interface-s™ is connected to the system via a single 5M custom DVI cable which is supplied as part
of the standard cable kit. The interface-s may not be located further from the system than this cable
allows. The optimum placement is at the head of a table setting and in easy reach of a minimum of two
users. This allows users to access the laptop inputs located on the side of the unit as well as have full
control of the push buttons.

Caution
Please ensure that the custom DVI cable which connects the abox™ to the interface-s is the
one supplied. DO NOT use third party equivalents as performance will be affected. Please do
not stretch or pinch any of the cables as it can result in damage and the device not functioning
properly

After the installation of the RealPresence Medialign and the Out Of Box configuration of the
RealPresence Group Series 500 codec, follow these steps to configure system serial port.
To configure the serial port:
1 In the web interface, go to Admin Settings > General Settings > Serial Ports.
2 Under Mode, select RS-232 > Control and click Save.
3 Under Serial Port Options, select Login Mode > None and click Save.
Note:

Error Message Solution
Codec communications failure.
When the system has started, the abox™ is unable to
communicate with the codec. Wait for the codec to
boot. If the codec is fully booted, check the codec
setting to make sure the serial port has been enabled
and that it is not password protected. This message
can take between 2 and 3 minutes to appear. See the
section Configure the Serial Port.
Looking for codec. Normal message during the system and/or codec boot
up cycle. Will clear when the abox and codec are
communicating, "Codec Found - Communications OK"
or with a "Codec Communications Failure" message.
Codec communications failure.
Sometimes the communications with the codec fails.
Check codec status is OK and that no configuration
changes have been made to the codec. Check the
serial cabling.
Interface table box is disconnected.
Check that the cable between the abox™ and the
Interface has not been damaged. Check that the end
connectors are pushed fully home and are screwed
securely into position.
If the interface-s is purposely disconnected and you
receive this message, you should shut down the
Polycom codec, power cycle the system, and press
the power switch on the Polycom codec to restore the
system.
Codec login failure. "The abox cannot control the
codec."
Set 'Login Mode' to 'none' in the Group 500 admin
settings --> 'Serial Port Options'.
The abox™ is able to communicate with the codec,
but has detected that the codec’s serial port is
password protected. Follow the steps in the Configure
the Serial Port section to remove the password
protection.

Chassis Bonding Straps
A critical part of the assembly process of the RealPresence Medialign 255 and RealPresence Medialign
270 is ensuring that the chassis bonding straps are fitted. The units consists of multiple chassis which
need to be bonded together using the supplied chassis bonding straps. Each strap is passed through
holes located at the midpoint of each chassis and terminated using a nut and washer arrangement as
detailed below. This ensures that all chassis sections are electrically bonded.
Note:
The chassis bonding straps are best fitted prior to the screen modules being installed onto the
chassis. This allows for better access.

Chassis Bonding Straps for RealPresence Medialign 270
Caution:
It is CRITICAL that the chassis bonding straps are fitted and correctly installed. This assembly
will require a tool in order to secure the cable correctly. This cannot be left “finger tight” as a
proper bond will not occur.
