What’s New in Polycom RealPresence Media Manager
6.5 Software
Polycom RealPresence Media Manager 6.5 software introduces enhancements to the
installation, configuration, and administration tasks common to all customer scenarios.
RealPresence Media Manager 6.5 software is designed to take the customer from
implementation to providing end-users with a fully managed video content environment with
greater ease than in previous versions.
Several new features are designed to improve the end-user experience, including optimization
for the default browsers on the most popular mobile devices.
RealPresence Media Manager 6.5 introduces a revised software licensing model. The new base
license includes capabilities that were options in version 6.0 and earlier versions.
The RealPresence Media Manager 6.5 solution is available to new customers in three editions:
Polycom RealPresence Media Manager – Software Edition
Polycom RealPresence Media Manager – Appliance Edition
Polycom RealPresence Media Manager – Hosted Edition (North America only)
The RealPresence Media Manager 6.5 software, features, Admin Tool user interface, and end
user experiences are common to all three editions.
Polycom RealPresence Media Manager – Software Edition
The Software Edition is a base software package for installation on your existing physical or
virtual server environment. It requires a compatible Microsoft server operating system, such as
Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2012, and a compatible Microsoft SQL database,
such as Microsoft SQL 2008 R2, or SQL 2012. The RealPresence Media Manager software can
be installed on one or more servers, based on your architecture and scale requirements.
The base license includes access to standard features for up to 500 concurrent users. You can
add users in blocks of 500 users, up to the capacity of your infrastructure. You can also
purchase and install additional options, such as Microsoft SharePoint integration, separately.

Polycom RealPresence Media Manager – Appliance Edition
The Appliance Edition is the RealPresence Media Manager solution pre-installed and configured
on a Dell PowerEdge R620 Rack Server. The appliance is preloaded with Microsoft Server
2012, and Microsoft SQL 2012 Express with Advanced Services.
The appliance comes configured to stream media using the integrated Microsoft IIS Media
Services. This provides desktop- and mobile device-compatible live and on-demand streaming
from a variety of sources, including the Polycom RealPresence Capture Station Pro appliance
and Polycom RSS4000 8.5. Windows Media is not included on the appliance.
RealPresence Media Manager Appliance Edition includes the standard features for up to 500
concurrent users. You can add an additional 500 users to meet the RealPresence Media
Manager appliance’s maximum capacity of 1000 users. Expanding beyond 1000 users requires
additional system infrastructure, such as load balancers and higher-capacity Microsoft SQL
servers, and professional services consulting to determine the optimum system architecture.
You can purchase and install additional options, such as Microsoft SharePoint integration,
separately.
Polycom RealPresence Media Manager – Hosted Edition
The Hosted Edition is a private-cloud instance of the RealPresence Media Manager solution,
which is installed, maintained, and updated by Polycom’s hosting team. RealPresence Media
Manager – Hosted Edition is the quickest way to start using RealPresence Media Manager
software, and is ideal for communication with Internet audiences.
Hosted Edition provides an IT-free implementation, with all servers, operating systems,
bandwidth, storage, content delivery, and day-to-day environment maintenance provided by
Polycom as part of the monthly service fee. Additional options, such as Microsoft SharePoint
integration, are available as custom monthly services.
Enhancements
RealPresence Media Manager 6.5 software includes several enhancements to the Admin Tool
to simplify common administration tasks. The automation of many tasks reduces the need to
access Windows Server after installation, including:
Migration of most of the portal/web.config settings from the web.config file (located in the
Portal folder in the RealPresence Media Manager software program files), into the Admin
Tool and the RealPresence Media Manager database. To configure these settings, you
now use the Admin Tool user interface.
The new Copy button, available for most profiles, makes it easy to expand the
RealPresence Media Manager’s scale by duplicating profiles instead of requiring you to
create them from scratch.
The new Manage feature enables you to manage Server Profiles from the Admin Tool,
including viewing the status of services such as Microsoft IIS Media Services and
Windows Media Services.

Updates and enhancements to the RealPresence Media Manager-Microsoft SharePoint
2010 integration option
Enhancements to RealPresence Media Manager software’s third party transcoding
feature, or watch folder transcoding (not included in the basic installation package)
Workflow improvements to speed up regular administrative tasks
The RealPresence Media Manager 6.5 web portal has several updates and enhancements of
the user experience, optimizations, including:
Support for variable-rate playback on compatible content types and compatible desktop
browsers (see Known Issues in Polycom RealPresence Media Manager 6.5 Software for
complete details about file formats, server profiles, and supported browsers)
Updated support for popular mobile operating systems, including Apple iOS5 and iOS6,
Google Android Honeycomb 3.x, Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0, and Jelly Bean 4.1, and
Microsoft Windows Surface RT
Support for Microsoft Windows 8
Support for Microsoft Internet Explorer 10
Two new time-saving functions available via the web portal when you are logged in as an
admin user:
○ Recycle the app pool resets the application in IIS. This will end all user sessions, and
clear the server’s cache.
○ Clear Cache clears the server-side cache, but leaves existing user sessions intact. You
can use this feature to update content without waiting for the cache to expire on its own.
New Features
RealPresence Media Manager 6.5 software introduces the following new features:
The RealPresence API, which provides programmatic access to the features of the
RealPresence Media Manager web portal. For more information about the API, see
Accessing RealPresence® Media Manager Portals Using the Polycom® Portal Public
REST API.
An optional integration with the Blackboard® Learn™ 9.1 (SP10) learning management
system. The rewritten integration between RealPresence Media Manager 6.5 software
and Blackboard Learn 9.1 software employs both the RealPresence API and the IMS
Global Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) standards.
The New RealPresence Media Manager Software License Model
RealPresence Media Manager 6.5 software is now licensed as a base feature set, and optional
integrations.
RealPresence Media Manager 6.5 software’s new base license includes:
Up to 500 concurrent users
6
A concurrent user is any user of Media Manager services, such as the web portal,
streaming media, or the Admin Tool. Any user who accesses RealPresence Media
Manager software services through the API or other integrations is also considered a
concurrent user by the software. For example, 40 users viewing video content through
Microsoft SharePoint via RealPresence Media Manager software are considered 40
concurrent users.
Microsoft Active Directory/Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (AD/LDAP) integration
for flexible permissions management (complex AD/LDAP integrations are not included in
the basic installation package—see you Polycom representative for details)
Web-based Single Sign-on (SSO) interoperability with many popular authentication
platforms (SSO is not included in the basic installation package)
User Evaluation such as in-portal. HTML-based tests, polls and certificates
Media Director, which provides the basis for interoperability with many enterprise and
Internet content distribution networks (CDNs) (Media Director is not included in the basic
installation package)
Uploading of User Generated Content with automatic transcoding, and permission-based
workflow
Mobility transcoding for up to three pooled transcoding servers. The basic installation
package includes one mobility transcode server. Installation of additional mobility
transcoding servers requires additional Windows servers. Installation fees apply.
Third party transcoding, or watch folder transcoding (configuration for use with third party
transcoding is not included in the basic installation package)
Social Share feature for sharing direct content links or creating embed code to use on
external websites (permissions are maintained in both scenarios)
Media Utility for Microsoft Lync and IBM Sametime (neither the installation of the server
components, nor the installation of the client-side utility is included in the basic installation
package)
RealPresence API, a RESTful API with documentation

Virtual machines
RealPresence Media Manager can be installed on virtual machines (VM) to simplify
maintenance, disaster recovery, and expansion. Virtual machine environments can over-share
resources across VM instances, affecting the responsiveness of CPU-, RAM- and disk-intensive
applications like RealPresence Media Manager.
The following Virtualization platforms have been identified as compatible, but because
performance is heavily influenced by actual deployment configurations, each environment must
be reviewed and certified by professional services after installation. You need an existing
support contract with your virtualization provider and or the ability to resolve issues that are
unique to virtualized environments. The use of management systems to govern and report
against virtual hosts is highly recommended. Open Source virtualization platforms and non-
affiliated internet based third-party cloud providers are not supported without validation and
written authorization from Polycom Global Support Services.

Known Issues in Polycom RealPresence Media Manager
6.5 Software
Note: 32-bit Operating Systems are not supported
32-bit operating systems are not supported in RealPresence Media Manager 6.5 software.
The following known issues persist in RealPresence Media Manager 6.5.1.14 software:
Issue When scheduling a live RealPresence Capture Station event or RSS4000 event in
RealPresence Media Manager Admin Tool, the event will appear as expected in the
RealPresence Media Manager Portal's Upcoming Event portlet as expected, however,
even after the event has begun, the content item in the Upcoming Event portlet is not
available for viewing.
In the RealPresence Media Manager Admin Tool, clear the portal’s cache or recycle the
app pool.
In the RealPresence Media Manager Portal, log in as an admin user and clear the
portal’s cache or recycle the app pool.
21931 Thumbnails for User Generated Content (UGC) uploaded to a Polycom Media Services
Agent (MSA) are missing the web dir in the relative path and will not be visible in the
portal.
21929 When an image is uploaded using UGC, the uploader does not upload the width and
height metadata for the image.
Scan in the image content, which uses a bitmap decoder that retrieves all the metadata
and automatically enters it as image properties.
21927 When scheduling an RSS event, selecting and saving a Content Source Profile (CSP)
which is not associated with the Content Creation Profile (CCP) you are using, causes a
validation error.

Polycom, Inc. 17
Use a CSP that is associated with the CCP.
21925 The user alias password and confirm password fields allow more than the 50-character
maximum.
21908 When scheduling events, the Rebroadcast checkbox is selected when there is no
rebroadcastable content.
Clear the Rebroadcast checkbox manually.
21860 After upgrading from RealPresence Media Manager 6.0 software to 6.5, the port number
is missing in URLs.
Add the port number manually.
21879 When changing Style Profiles, changes to the Advanced Search Link Font do not appear
to have taken effect in the Admin Tool, but are reflected in the portal.
21827 Add DistributionUrlRequired check while saving Distribution profile with distributrion
21899 H.264 bitrates streaming from the RealPresence Capture Server are not supported in
RealPresence Media Manager 6.5 software.
21900 .mov format video uploaded from iOS devices to RealPresence Media Manager software
as User Generated Content sometimes display upside down in thumbnails.
Replace the thumbnails manually in the RealPresence Media Manager Admin Tool
Issue User accounts created during installation of Microsoft SQL Server are denied
authentication on login.
Select Mixed Mode Authentication during installation of SQL Server or configure it in the
SQL Server 2012 Setup dialog box if SQL Server is already installed.
21518 Content with a # in the filename returns an error when pushed to a Scala server via the
Digital Signage Servers list.
21545 Content will display with inconsistent behavior on Android devices when switching to full
screen, including skipping to the end of the video and stopping, and restarting from the
beginning of the video.
21560 RealPresence Media Manager scheduler service will attempt to transcode a previously
transcoded .wmv file when pushed to X20 server via Digital Signage Sync.
10963 Admin Tool>Network Resources>Content Source Profile (RSS): alter credentials doesn’t
clear from the bottom section
13369 When scanning MP4 content from a RealPresence Media Editor presentation, the MP4
qualifier duplicates in the URL in RealPresence Media Manager if it was originally
included in the RealPresence Media Editor Flash Server URL. For example, it might look
like rtmp://qastaging:1935/vod/MP4/mp4:mp4:mediafilename.mp4
When creating a Streaming Server Profile in RealPresence Media Manager, do not pass
the MP4: qualifier.
21587 0.5x, 1.5x, and 2x playback speeds are inaccurate.
