OMAN• Oman is a gulf country that is growing in prominence. • Not formally part of the British Empire but has strong British
influences• Hindu is the native language but English is widely spoken,
particularly in the hospitals and is taught at school from an early age.
• Oman offers a rich Arabic culture • 75% of Omanis are Muslims; a real awareness and sensitivity to the
Muslim culture is necessary but there is a long established ex-patriot community where western culture is evident.
• HCARE (Nursing) has a strong collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Oman Specialised Nursing Institute (OSNI)
• HCARE collaboratively delivers a BSc (Hons) in Nursing Studies & BSc (Hons) in Community Health Nursing Practice

Food and Hospitality
• A very important part of Omani culture is hospitality.
• If invited into an Omani house, a visitor is likely to be greeted with a bowl of dates, qahwa (coffee with cardamom and fruit.
• The coffee is served fairly weak in a small cup, which should be shaken after three servings to show that you have finished.
• Halwa and other sweets are often given at celebrations such as Eids.
