Transcript of Polish Street Art
If you think, that graffiti is vandalism or
ordinary scribbling- welcome to Łódź to change your views.
STREET ART IN ŁÓDŹ
Hip- hop culture in the best form is promoted in Łódź, the
city of Poland.
Since 2000, the group of artist from Łódź has been trying to prove that
hip- hop isn’t just a music style but it is also the culture and art. In 2001 they painted a murale that shows a
boat with many symbols of that city, for example Freedom Square with
the Kościuszko monument.
In 2001 that was the world’s largest murale. Now it is the biggest one in Europe. Over
2000 cans of spray were used to create the painting
30 metres wide and 20 metres high.
MEETING OF
The next success of the group was the
organization of the festival Meeting of Styles promoting legal graffiti,
hip- hop music and breakdance.
In one of the streets of Łódź they opened the gallery,
where people could enjoy the views of the best graffitis
painters in the world. During that festival the artists
painted over more than 2,5 thousand square metres of
factory hall. Next year the festival moved
to Wrocław
OUTLINE COLOUR FESTIVAL
The Outline Colour Festival has been taking place in Łódź since 2009. It is
one of the biggest international graffiti festivals in Poland, which combines the art of the street painting with hip-hop
and reggae music. It is the continuation of the festival Meeting of Styles, but
that festival is more significant.
