Polio is a contagious viral disease, it can cause paralysis and death in severe cases.

The first discovered case of polio in the US was June 17, 1894, in 1905 it was identified.

Polio can be caused by direct contact with polio or by consuming contaminated water or food

Their are two types of polio: non paralytic and paralytic polio.

Symptoms of non paralytic polio can be as simple as vomiting or sore throat.

Symptoms of paralytic polio include loss of reflexes, severe muscle spasms, and loose and floppy limbs.

Polio can caught by anyone but considering that polio affects the immune and nervous systems it is more susceptible to children, pregnant women, and the elderly .

The only way to treat polio is to get vaccinated usually with a shot. This vaccine was developed in 1952 by Jonas Salk.

1929- The “Iron Lung” is invented to help people with polio breath easier.

1931- A second type of polio is found.

The said source of polio is that it’s related to the chemical pesticides. Around WWII DDT was sprayed in parks when kids were playing.

The last case of known polio happened in October 2005. Three cases of polio were identified in a Amish community in Central Minnesota.
