NEW CAMPAIGN INTO KILLER EXCLUSIVEEXCLUSIVE

KERRY Irvine is wagingwar against cancer, so thatno wife has to bear theagony she suffered watch-ing her husband die.

It took only seven monthsfrom the day Noel Irvine fromOmagh was diagnosed withpancreatic cancer for him tobe taken from her forever.

Now Kerry is dedicating herselfto raising awareness of one ofthe UK’s biggest killers.

Pancreatic cancer is allocated apaltry one per cent of the UK’sresearch budget; it’s deemed the‘silent killer’ because of itsvague symptoms and was thecause of death for Apple bossSteve Jobs, actor Patrick Swayzeand opera legend Pavarotti.

Only three per cent of thosediagnosed are still alivefive years later andastonishingly this ratehasn’t changed inover 40 years.

“We need toraise awarenessand funds for thiscruel and nasty

disease that ripped the love of my lifefrom me,” said the mum of two.

“GPs need to stop ruling out the ideaof pancreatic cancer as a diagnosisbecause of age; it’s not just an old per-sons disease, my Noel was only 54.”

She said he had been back andforth to his doctor over an 18 monthperiod with a series of symptoms.

“He had a pain in his stomachwhich was radiating to his

back, he was having toiletproblems and night

sweats.”Pain

Initially it wasthought he was suffer-

ing from irritable bow-el syndrome, but when

the pain became toomuch to bear Noel

was sent for bloodtests.

“It was 9amon GoodFriday 2011and I toldhim to ringme whenhe gotout,” she

recalled. “It had gone past 12 and Iwas cursing him saying ‘I’m going tokill him, he’s forgotten to ring me.’

“When he rang me after lunch say-ing they’d sent him for a CT scan andthat he had an appointment with hisGP first thing the next morning Iknew it was serious. Deep down Iknew it was cancer, but I didn’t knowwhat type.”

Kerry sat in the doctor’s surgery hold-ing her husband’s hand when a locumdoctor broke the life-shattering newsthat Noel had primary pancreatic can-cer and he was given just six months tolive.A diagnosis which proved too hardto comprehend for Kerry.

“I completely fell to pieces. I justcouldn’t fathom what the doctor wastelling me, that in six months my hus-band, father of my two childrenwouldn’t be here.

“Noel was so brave and was alwaysfocused on what we could do next.Wewere told he would be seen withintwo weeks and our options would beexplained.

“Although I was too distraught tonotice at the time, in hindsight we wereoffered no information on pancreaticcancer, any cancer charities, or supportnetworks. Basically we were told you’vegot cancer, now go home.

“Google soon became my bestfriend and I quickly realised how

MI5 agent Martin McGartland has claimedGerry Adams called Downing Street to com-plain that his bodyguards had been arrestedfor kidnapping him.

McGartland believes his kidnappers hadbeen protected by the State because theywere so close to the Sinn Fein President.

McGartland told the Sunday World he hasno doubts that his Provo kidnappers - Paul‘Chico’ Hamilton and Jim ‘Boot’ McCarthy -have never been prosecuted because theyhave been given an assurance they won’t.

Both men later went on to work for theSinn Fein leader – McCarthy ashis driver and Hamilton as hisbodyguard.

Last week former senior PSNIofficer Norman Baxter told the NIAffairs Committee atWestminster that Gerry Adamshad called Downing Street todemand the release of tworepublican suspects arrested forthe shooting of a UDR soldier.

During the hearing which isexamining the On The Run letteraffair he also accused the NIO ofgoing to great lengths to make sure republi-cans were not prosecuted.

McGartland was kidnapped in August 1991after his cover was blown. He escaped hisIRA captors by jumping out of a third floorwindow.

Two years ago he made a complaint to thePolice Ombudsman’s office about that inci-dent which he believes was being filmed byundercover officers.

He wants to know why they didn’t stop themurder bid and why - despite naming hiscaptors - nobody has ever been brought tojustice for the kidnapping.

“I’ve been saying it for ages that there wassome sort of dirty back handed dealbetween the IRA and the British Governmentto stop republicans being prosecuted,” saidthe former agent last night.

“After reading what Norman Baxter had tosay I am even more certain thatGerry Adams made a similar callto Downing Street aboutMcCarthy and Hamilton.

“If he was prepared to do it forGerry McGeough then he would-n’t have hesitated to do it for hisbodyguards.

“I was going to be murdered bythese people but they have beengiven some kind of immunityfrom prosecution. The wholecase stinks to high heaven.”

Last night the PoliceOmbudsman’s office confirmed

they had bunched the former agent’s casealong with a number of other “sensitive”investigations.

Martin McGartland claims to have saved atleast 50 lives as a special agent. He wasgiven a new identity and set up home inEngland but his identity was exposed byaccident and he was shot six times by anIRA gunman.
