2016 Class Project

Things are blossoming this spring with genbluesprings. Our Young Professional Networking group continues to grow, allowing for more relationship building for you! This past March was full of genbluesprings fun. First, the group met at Chick-fil-A for their morning BYOBreakfast meeting. The food was delicious and the Chick-fil-A team took great care of the Chamber attendees. To wrap up the month, genbluesprings hosted a March Madness Happy Hour event at Brewer's Sports Bar & Grill. What a fun-tastic time!

April promises to be extremely entertaining. To kick off the month, genbluesprings is hosting a table at the Rainbow Center's fundraiser Rockin' The Rainbow: Roaring 20's Style. The group is looking forward to a lovely night out of dressing up and having fun while helping a fantastic Blue Springs organization.

The fun doesn't stop there, genbluesprings is planning a bowling event at Lunar Bowl. Please keep an eye out for an email with details about this event. We hope to see YOU there! This bowling experience will be open to all Chamber members, not just the genbluesprings committee. Bring business cards and share a lane with someone you'd like to connect with! The group is also looking into volunteer/community service opportunities. If you're organization is in need; contact the Chamber to see how genbluesprings can help.

Sneak-Peek at future events: end of May/early June genbluesprings is hosting a volleyball extravaganza at Centerline Beach Volleyball & Pavilion. All Chamber members are welcome to bump, set, spike & network at this awesome outing.

Is Your Business Represented?Teachers, students, area businesses, city and school officials filled the Stonehaus Farms Winery recently to support a unique new program from StandUp Blue Springs. It’s called GAME PLAN for Life, and it connects at-risk high school students with experienced business people to provide career advice and mentoring.

Through a series of workshops, students learn how to choose a career path, find jobs, prepare resumes, participate in mock job interviews, learn social skills, even business lunch etiquette. Representatives from Hy-Vee, Chick-fil-A, Rink Ratz, Carpenters Union, MODOT, Metropolitan Community College and House of Heavilin met with students to provide industry-specific job information. Our curriculum also includes making students aware of additional training and apprenticeship opportunities. And central to our program, are the business veterans who serve as

Coaches to provide one-on-one mentoring throughout the workshops. Students find their “real-world” advice to be invaluable.

Many in our business community are helping by sponsoring the GAME PLAN for Life program with donations, e.g. Schult Industries, St. Mary’s Medical Center, The Examiner, Anderson Rental, Blue Springs Hy-Vee and many individuals in our community.

The next class of students will be participating in the GAME PLAN for Life workshops in April. They are 18 years old, are struggling to graduate from high school, most are not college-bound, and they don’t know how to find a job or choose a career. I’m sure you know young men and women like this. If so, and if you agree with our mission of helping prepare area youth for today’s job market, you or your business can help by:

4 Becoming a Coach

4 Serving on the Business Panel

4 Providing a job or internship

4 Sponsoring a Student

This is a program by StandUp Blue Springs, a 14-year old 501(c)3 that helps area youth. Your donations are tax deductible.
