Optellios' Polarization Controller, PC1000C, is an electrically driven, arbitrary-to-arbitrary polarization controller that allows light at any input polarization state to be transformed to any other state of polarization.
Through active feedback control, the polarization controller can be used to lock the output polarization to a fixed state regardless of the input polarization. The polarization controller can also be used for PDL measurements, as well as a polarization scrambler.
The PC1000C polarization controller is based on Optellios' patent pending technology, which enables high performance with no moving parts and ultra-low power consumption. The PC1000C polarization controller operates from drive voltages as low as 3V.
The small footprint of the polarization controller allows an easy mounting onto a circuit board. Low control voltage and ultralow power consumption permit design flexibility in demanding applications.
PC1000C polarization controller is optimized for operation across the entire telecom (S-C-L) band. The polarization controller is available with a range of optical connectors as standard options.
Optellios can also provide the polarization controller in non-standard configurations, please contact us directly to discuss your requirements.
Complete polarization control Fast and uniform random tuning Operation over S+C+L band No hysteresis Low insertion loss Ultra-low power consumption Small size and footprint Rugged design Flexible interface design

Performance Data
Polarization controller operation requires, in general, simultaneous application of six (6) independent a.c. control signals. Limited operation is possible with fewer control signals. In such cases it is recommended that unused signal pins be connected to the common ground. No d.c. bias voltage should be applied to the signal inputs of the polarization controller at any time.

Applications
Polarization Scrambling
Launch SOP Optimization
Polarization Stabilization
The 6-stage, over-parameterized structure of PC1000C Polarization Controller makes it easy to optimize the polarization state for launch into the Optical System. Each stage can be adjusted in a sequence either manually or using microprocessor-controlled DAC outputs.
The Polarization Controller can be used in a feedback loop to lock the output SOP to a particular state and to compensate slow variations in the input polarization. The feedback can be the optical power, detected after passing the light through a linear polarizer, or the complete Stokes vector, measured with a polarimeter.
Excellent reproducibilty and hysteresis-free performance allows to use PC1000C Polarization Controller as a 4-state generator for measuring PDL, PMD, and other polarization-related characteristics of systems and components by Muller method together with a polarimeter, such as Optellios' PS2000B.
PC1000C Polarization Controller can scramble the output polarization at rates ranging from Hz to kHz, while uniformly covering all possible polarization states.
