Analyze The Learner

• General: 8th grade class that consists of 18 students (12 girls, 6 boys), 10 Caucasian, 4 African American and 4 Latino.

• Learning Competencies: Students will have a basic understanding of Poetry and the aspects of different types of poems.

• Learning Styles: Most of the students are visual and auditory learners while others are active learners.

Main Objective

• Students will learn and develop different poems through the use of readings, videos, podcasts and a creative project by the end of the week with a 95% accuracy.

Day-To-Day Breakdown• Day 1: Introduce the class to poetry, the different types of poems there are and show

the class videos and podcasts of people reciting famous poems. • Day 2: Discuss what Haiku and Shape Poems are, the structures of each type of

poem and have the class create their own Haiku and Shape Poems. • Day 3: Discuss the structures and give examples of Limerick and Acrostic Poems.

Each student will create their own poems of each type of poem.• Day 4: Provide examples of Ballad and Tanka Poems and go over the structure for

creating each poem. The class will also create their own version of each type of poem.• Day 5: Students will create their own Poetry Book which will contain each poem they

have written from the previous days. Supplies for project will be provided. Each student will present their finished piece.

Use of Technology

• I will use a SmartBoard to show the class videos and examples of each type of poem we will be covering in class.

• I will have posters, colorful construction paper, markers and colored pencils ready for my students to use to create their Poetry Book.

• I will provide Podcasts of different poems and poetry discussions that will correspond with the type of poems we will be covering each day.
