Term 3— Issue 9
11th September
Dear Parents, STEM This week we have started a STEM program that will continue for the rest of this year for all classes. Miss Gabrielle Maas will be taking the lessons and giving the students lots of hands on opportunities to explore the many concepts of STEM. What is STEM? STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. STEM skills and knowledge are important for all stages of our learning, jobs, and everyday lives. Science is everywhere in the world around us. Technology is continuously expanding into every aspect of our lives. Engineering is the basic designs of roads and bridges, but also tackles the
challenges of changing global weather and environmentally-friendly changes to our homes.
Mathematics is in every occupation, every activity we do in our lives. STEM activities provide hands-on lessons for our students. Building challenges – STEM challenges build skills in problem solving, teamwork,
communication and grit. Engineering design challenges – Students are guided through a process of
brainstorming, design, building, testing, re-design and sharing solutions. These challenges can be connected to Maths and Science, along with real world problems.
Economics in Year 6 The Year 6 students have been very busy creating market stalls as a practical way of demonstrating their understanding of the learning they have gained in their Economics unit of study. The proceeds from the stalls will go towards the cost of their graduation at the end of the year. The whole school community will be supporting them by making purchases at their stalls on Tuesday and Thursday.

Australian History in Year 4 The Year 4 students have been learning about European exploration, the First Fleet and the impact on our Indigenous population. They participated in an incursion to learn more about continuity and change over time and the effects of European exploration. They looked at the Australian symbols and emblems and examined their importance and explored the reasons for European settlement in Australia.
Reflections on “Once Upon an Epic Quest” What a wonderful experience for all our students to participate in. A lot of work went into bringing such an amazing musical production to our school community. A huge thank you to everyone who helped to make this happen. What I enjoyed about the musical and why - Preps I enjoyed watching the grand finale. I liked watching the acts. The best was the sword fight. I liked singing because it was beautiful. Reflections When I was performing I felt very excited because I had been rehearsing for so long and I’d been waiting
for the big moment to finally be there, acting in front of everyone. My favourite thing about the musical was on Thursday night, Dhiren (the ugly troll) was standing in a
hilarious position and the audience was laughing for five minutes straight. When I was performing I felt nervous because there were a lot of people staring at me. The hardest thing was singing because at the middle the words got mixed up. My favourite thing about the musical was performing and break time because performing was fun and at
break time we played basketball. I think I was good at the grapevine because I did it in time and I was doing my best. When I was performing I felt very proud of myself for putting effort into my work as a soldier. The hardest thing was trying to hold my freeze and making sure not to slip AND trying not to laugh side
stage when it was the troll scene. When I was performing I was quite happy because I knew my parents were watching me. I think I was good at dancing because I knew my dance moves for the song. The hardest thing was to keep in time with the music. My favourite thing about the musical was performing on the stage because the part before singing our
song was so interesting.

At Kilberry Valley Primary School, we
believe that student success is dependent
upon good attendance at school. Students
need to attend school regularly in order to
participate fully and gain maximum benefit
from their schooling. Daily attendance
enables students to access a full
education, allowing them to reach their full
potential. Students with poor patterns of
attendance in primary school usually have
poor patterns in secondary school and
often disengage from school. There is a
direct link between school attendance and
achievement in later life. Poor attendance
also makes it difficult for children to form
positive relationships with their peers
therefore, we feel that regular attendance
is essential for KVPS students.
FATHERS DAY EXTRAVAGANZA IN 2C
On Friday 30th August we celebrated Fathers Day.
It was wonderful to see so many Dads, Grandfathers
and special friends join us in 2C.
We had lots of fun and activities to keep both young
and not so young entertained.
One of the favourites was paper airplane building
and flying, we had planes flying everywhere.
All in all, it was a wonderful, sunny, happy afternoon.

CHANGE OF CLOTHING FOR STUDENTS
We would like to remind parents to provide a change of clothing in children’s
school bags—preferably some clean underwear, track suit pants,
windcheater, shorts or a dress.
This is handy for ALL children in ALL grade levels .
We ask for your co-operation with this matter as our Sick Bay is unable to cope
with the large volume of people requiring changes of clothing.
One of our children in the school community is receiving medical
treatment which puts them at serious risk if they are exposed to
infectious illnesses, in particular: Chicken -Pox, Measles,
Mumps or Shingles.
It is also important that while your child is unwell they remain at home until they
are no longer contagious. Please let us know immediately by calling
the school office on 9702 8688.
As a school community we value your support in relation to the wellbeing of
all our students.
Any parent who wishes to help out in our classrooms or on excursions,
must provide a current Working With Childrens Card (WWCC) to the office.
Its free to register as a volunteer https://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/
On the day you come to assist, please come
through the office and sign in using the visitors kiosk, you will be given a “Classroom helper
Privacy Agreement” to read and sign.
Please ensure you bring your Working With Childrens Card with you, to display in our lanyard, which you will wear while in the
classroom or on excursions.
If your child is absent from school,
please ring the office on 9702 8688
