Just the Facts 33
Where is plymouth? 34
psu experienceWhy do more than a thousand students like you choose PSU every year?
Get the experience and the degree!
“it’s just my size.”4,300 undergraduate students from 43 states and 34 foreign countries attend psu; almost half are from out of state. What does this mean for you? small classes (average size is 23) with a global perspective, professors who know your name, a community that looks out for you, and faculty and staff who will help you succeed.
ask any student why he or she chose psu and you’ll likely hear a variation on this theme:“ i liked the ‘coziness’ of it all. i could see myself making a home here.”

“PSU has my major.”
psu offers 54 majors and more
than 60 minors, plus a university
studies program for students still
deciding on a major. you’ll get
incredible support from faculty
and programs designed to help
you succeed. Going on to grad
school? psu has more than 75
graduate degree, certificate, and
continuing education programs.
“I can afford it.”
91% of students receive some kind
of financial aid, so don’t let cost
get in the way of your education.
let’s find a way together.
“The mountains, the lakes,
the woods … all this and
culture too!”
plymouth is minutes from ski
resorts, rivers, and parks, and it’s
just a couple hours to Boston and
portland—hey, even montreal
is only four hours from here.
think of psu’s 170-acre central
new hampshire campus as a
laboratory, a classroom, and a
playground.
“Everyone gets involved.”
Community service is the culture
and the norm here. the psu
motto—Ut prosim, or “that i may
serve”—really means something to
students and faculty. and some-
times you even get academic
credit for your service!
See for yourself

ment, health and fitness, business,

“the reason i started looking at psu was the fact that my major was offered. once i came to visit,
i liked psu for so many other reasons. i love the size; how i can
walk across campus and see at least one person i know but still meet
someone new every day. the sense of community was a big pull
for me.”
Is college worth it?
College may be expensive, but
not going to college can be
even more expensive. a college
graduate’s annual income will be
about $22,000 more than that of
a high school graduate. and the
unemployment rate for college
graduates is 2.6 times lower than
for recent high school gradu-
ates. especially in rough eco-
nomic times, a degree from psu
can bring more opportunities
throughout your working life.
Okay, I want to go … but how
will I pay?
there are a lot of ways to pay for
college. 91% of psu students
receive some kind of need- or
merit-based financial aid. Don’t
let cost get in the way of your
education. We may be able to
find a way together.
once you’ve fallen in love with
psu and been accepted, you’ll
meet the Financial aid team.
and we are serious when we tell
you the people in financial aid are
friendly, helpful straight-talkers.
they will walk you through every
option; tell you about scholarships,
grants, loans, and work-study; and
help you fill out forms. as soon as
you’ve started the process, they
will stick with you through all your
years at psu, as long as you need
them.
the only way to know if you will be
eligible for financial support is to
apply for it. remember: college
degree = more money + more job
opportunities.

plymouth.edu/office/financial-
aid or call (603) 535-2338.

academicsWhat does college look like to you? When you picture yourself in college, do you imagine sitting in the back of a huge classroom taking notes while a far-off professor lectures? are you just another nameless student?
picture this instead: you’re among a small group of students, discussing, arguing, and analyzing your subject together. your professor calls on you by name. she expects you to get out and apply your learning in the real world, through research, university-community partnerships, internships with local businesses, study abroad, volunteer work, or national student exchanges. years later, she’ll still know your name.
This is your life at plymouth state.

roll up your sleeves: in the course of your psu education you may get sweaty, dirty, and wet, and your brain will some-times hurt with everything you’re putting in there. you will never regret a minute of it.

While your academic record is your most
valuable asset in applying, psu also looks
closely at your character, leadership, initia-
tive, and special talents. our admissions
staff will not judge you by numbers alone;
the whole student is what counts. although
no minimum sat score is required for
admission, the combined critical reading
and math score of most admitted students
falls between 900 and 1100 (or a composite
score between 19 and 24 on the aCt). the
majority of our successful applicants have a
Gpa between 2.5 and 3.5.
What will a PSU degree give me?
plymouth state university gives you a solid
liberal arts foundation and access to profes-
sional programs across a variety of fields.
By the time you graduate, you will think
critically and have a deep and practical
understanding of your chosen field. most
importantly, you will be well prepared to
enter the working world.

“our faculty is amazing. Freshman year i had a
general education class with pat may and it was not in
my major. he was such a good professor and all-around
good person that i asked to switch my advisor so that i could have him as mine. Definitely one of the best
decisions i’ve made on this campus.”
