ONE MINISTRY. ONE MESSAGE. 60 YEARS.

BROTHER SWAGGART RELEASES HIS FIRST ALBUM

THIS OCTOBER MARKS THE 60th anniversary of Jimmy Swaggart Ministries. To commemorate, The Evangelist will be running a yearlong series of articles about the music and the message that have ministered to three generations of listeners. Whether people heard Brother Swaggart preach and sing in those first rural churches, on the radio during the Campmeeting Hour, or on the telecast that was viewed by millions, they sensed and responded to the anointing of the Holy Spirit, which only comes through complete obedience to the Lord. That obedience—demonstrated through the hearts and lives of Jimmy and Frances Swag-gart — is the hallmark of this ministry. It is in that spirit that we celebrate what the Lord has done throughout six decades in His service.

THE FIRST ALBUM

Music is an integral part of Jimmy Swaggart Ministries. It started with an 8-year-old boy asking the Lord for the ability to play the piano, and the Lord answering his prayer. For the young Jimmy Swaggart, playing the piano and worshipping the Lord came before standing in front of a pulpit, and that progression remains in place today. From the time he started preaching until now, Brother Swaggart has always started every service with anointed singing before ministering the Word; singing always complemented by his God-given skills as a musician.

His very first album, Some Golden Daybreak was produced in 1958. According to Brother Swaggart, that record became an immediate favorite with people who attended those first revival meetings with the young evangelist.

“I knew we had picked out good songs,” he said, “yet I felt as if God was trying to say something more through the comments of the people who were being blessed. It was as though He was telling me that I was going to touch many people through records.”

Jimmy went on to say that it was Frances who insisted on sending copies of the album to Gospel radio stations. “But I couldn’t see that,” he said. “‘Why would anybody want my record?’ But she was adamant. She said, ‘Well, I think the record is good and people would enjoy it.’”

It seems that they were both right. Since the start of this ministry, Brother Swaggart has recorded more than 50 gospel albums and sold nearly 16 million recordings worldwide. Brother Swaggart’s response to the success of his music is the same today as what was printed on the back of that first album: “To God be all the glory.”

As well, the back cover of Some Golden Daybreak includes thoughts from Fran-ces and Donnie Swaggart on what was clearly the launch of gospel music history. Following are some of those thoughts that Frances and Donnie had, which they included on that first album cover: “Well, everybody says Jimmy is different, and we suppose he is. Why? Everything that God touches is different. We think you can listen to these songs and tell that when he plays and sings, it’s with his soul, nothing halfway. He often says you have to feel it to tell it.

“Jimmy comes from a family of musicians, some of them who have risen to heights in the entertainment world, with Jerry Lee Lewis, one of America’s outstanding song stylists, being one of them. Possibly, if Jim had chosen to do so, he could have gained the heights of popularity along with his cousins, but Jesus said, ‘What shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his soul?’ We’re glad we can say that Jimmy’s talent—as Naboth told Ahab—is not for sale.”

MANY PEOPLE ASK THE question, “Cannot Satan read the Bible, which tells of his utter defeat?” Of course, he can; however, he is so self-deceived that he does not believe the Bible. Despite Calvary, Satan still believes that he is going to take the day. In fact, his greatest thrust — his greatest effort — is just ahead. He will empower the Antichrist as he has empow-ered no other man in human history.

This man is referred to in the Bible as the “Beast” (Rev. 13:1), the “Antichrist” (I Jn. 2:18), “Gog” (Ezek. 39:1), “that Wicked” (II Thess. 2:8), and “that Man of Sin” (II Thess. 2:3).

WHO WILL HE BE?

As to whom he is, the Bible doesn’t say.

I think it is obvious, however, that he will have to be a Jew. The Jews would in no way accept a Gentile as their proposed Messiah. They will accept this man, claiming him to be their Mes-siah, which means that he has to be Jewish. Considering that Jews are scattered all over the world, this means that he could come from any number of places.

The Jews are a peculiar people. Having been out of the will of God for more than 2,000 years, it has taken a deadly toll on them and their nature. In this country of America, some few Jews are conservative, but most are liberal, even extremely liberal.

A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

If I remember correctly, the year was 1987. I was asked to speak at a Jewish symposium in Washington, D.C. Influential Jews would be present from all over America. Benjamin

Netanyahu was the other speaker. He was not prime minister of Israel then, with such coming a little later.

After the session was over, I had the opportu-nity to meet the man who is now the prime minister of Israel.

I recall almost nothing about the meeting, but I do remember that when I walked away, I sensed in my spirit that this man was going to play a great part in the future of Israel. At any rate, I had been asked previously to meet with the Jewish liaison to Congress after the meeting was ended. I spent nearly two hours with the man.

He mentioned to me that he did not under-stand how that President Reagan, whom most Jews did not support, had turned out to be one of the greatest friends, if not the greatest friend, that the nation of Israel ever had. Thinking that all conservatives were opposed to Israel, he asked me how this could be.

I explained to him that the Christian move-ment in America was mostly conservative, but yet, loved Israel very, very much. I went on to tell him how that I felt that President Reagan personally had positive feelings toward Israel, but, as well, he was, no doubt, helped along, as it regarded Israel, by the hundreds of thou-sands of born-again believers in this nation.

So, from that conversation, it is easy for me to see how that Israel can accept a Jew from almost anywhere, assuming that he meets with their approval.

There is some biblical indication that the Man of Sin will be a Syrian Jew (Dan. 11:40). How-ever, we must understand that the country of origin of the “king of the north,” who will be

THE PRICELESS CORNER

FIRST: GOD LOVES YOU!

THIRD: JESUS CHRIST IS THE ONLY REMEDY FOR SIN

Pray this prayer and mean it with all of your heart:

SECOND: MAN IS A SINNER, AND SIN HAS SEPARATED HIM FROM GOD

FOURTH: YOU MUST RECEIVE JESUS CHRIST AS YOUR PERSONAL LORD AND SAVIOUR

WE BELIEVE:

» The Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative written Word of God. (Ps. 119; Mat. 4:4; Lk. 24:27)

» There is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. (I Jn. 5:7)

» In the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His Virgin Birth, in His Sinless Life, in His Miracles, in His Vicarious and atoning Death, in His Bodily Resurrection, in His Ascension to the Right Hand of the Father, in His personal future return to this Earth in Power and Glory to rule a thousand years. (Jn. 1:1-4; Eph. 2:13-18; Rev., Chpts. 19-20)

» In the Blessed Hope — the Rapture of the Church at Christ’s Coming. (I Thess. 4:13-18)

» The only means of being cleansed from sin is through Repentance and Faith in the Precious Blood of Christ. (Rom. 5:1; Eph. 2:8-9, 13-18)

» Regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal Salvation. (Jn. 3:5-8; Titus 3:5)

» The Redemptive Work of Christ on the Cross provides Healing of the human body in answer to believing prayer. (Ex. 15:25-26; James 5:14-15; I Pet. 2:24)

» The Baptism with the Holy Spirit according to Acts 2:4 is given to Believers who ask for it. (Acts 2:4; 10:44-46; 19:1-7)

» In the Sanctifying Power of the Holy Spirit by Whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy life. (Rom. 6:3-14; 8:1-2, 11)

» In the Resurrection of both the saved and the lost: the one to Everlasting Life and the other to everlasting damnation. (Rev. 20:5-6, 11-15)

We have set aside this corner of The Evangelist to show God’s Plan of Salvation. If you are unsure where you will go when you die, please listen to what God has said in His Word:

Jesus calls this experience the “new bir th.” He told Nicodemus: “... Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God” (Jn. 3:3).

We invite you now to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour. “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name” (Jn. 1:12).

Dear Lord Jesus, I now realize that I am a sinner. I accept the fact that You died for me on the rugged Cross of Calvary. I now open my heart’s door and receive You as Saviour and Lord of my life. Please take full control of me and help me to be the kind of Christian You want me to be. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer in all sincerity, you are now a Child of God. So that we might rejoice with you, we invite you to fill out this coupon and mail it to Jimmy Swaggart Ministries, P.O. Box 262550, Baton Rouge, LA 70826-2550. In Canada, mail to Jimmy Swaggart Ministries of Canada, P.O. Box 1020, Niagara Falls, Ontario, L2E 6V9. We will send you a free copy of Jimmy Swaggart’s book What Must I Do To Be Saved? This book will help you grow in grace and knowledge.

“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God ...” (I Pet. 3:18).

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

“For there is not a just man upon Earth, that doeth good and sinneth not” (Eccl. 7:20).

“For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God” (Rom. 3:23).

“For God so loved the world that he gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have Everlasting Life” (Jn. 3:16).

DEAR JIMMY: TODAY I ACCEPTED JESUS AS MY LORD AND SAVIOUR.

the Antichrist, includes modern Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq. Actually, Iran, Afghanistan, and even some of modern Pakistan were also included in the old Syrian division of the Grecian Empire. However, some say they are not to be included because they were not a part of the old Roman Empire territory from which the 10 horns came up (Dan. 7:7). Possibly, that is true, but not necessarily so.

Some claim that the Antichrist will be a reincarnation of Judas, while others claim that he will be a reincarnation of Alexander the Great, etc. There is nothing biblical that supports a reincarnation of anyone.

THE DEBUT OF THE MAN OF SIN

The Antichrist will make his debut, promising great peace, and will be believed by much of the world. Concerning this, the Scripture says: “And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals (refers to the crucified, risen Christ, and is proven by the use of the word Lamb), and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts (living creatures) saying, Come and see. (This will follow the rapture of the church, but we aren’t told exactly how long after the rapture the great tribulation will come. ‘Come and see,’ says that it is destined and cannot be avoided.)

“And I saw, and behold a white horse (symbolic; proclaims the Antichrist pre-senting himself to the world as a prince of peace): and he who sat on him had a bow (mentions no arrows; he preaches peace, but is preparing for war, as symbolized by the ‘bow’); and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer. (The ‘crown’ represents the fact that he will con-quer many countries. At first, he does so by peace, but will quickly graduate to war)” (Rev. 6:1-2).

THE SEVEN-YEAR CONCORD WITH ISRAEL

As we have already stated, Israel, and especially Jerusalem, is the flash point of the world at this time. Surrounded by more than 100 million Muslims, who swear her destruction, she occupies a very precarious position. And then, her greatest benefactor of all, the United States, is weakening in its resolve toward her. In fact, the Obama Administration is not only not favor-able toward Israel but, if the truth be known, actively opposes her.

Since the administration of Jimmy Carter, the brightest minds have tried to solve the thorny problem of Israel and the Palestinians. Most of the world thinks that the problem is that Israel will not give land to the Palestinians in order that they might form a nation. Nothing could be further from the truth!

As Arafat once said, “We will win out over Israel by the means of peace — piece by piece.” The truth is, the Muslim world demands the entirety of the nation of Israel, with Jerusalem as their capital and the country then named Pales-tine. As well, they want every Jew dead.

It must be remembered that every war between Israel and the surrounding Arab countries such as Egypt and Syria has always been instigated by the Muslims. Israel did not start any of these wars, and yet, they have won every war and then allowed the Palestinians to remain in Israel. If the situation

THE RISE OF THE ANTICHRIST PART I

was reversed, and the Muslims had their way, meaning they had won any one of these wars, they would have slaughtered every single Jew. However, the world doesn’t see that because they don’t want to see that. In fact, the world as a whole wouldn’t care if Ahmadinejad was able to secure for himself an atomic bomb and then would use it on Israel.

The only friend in the world that Israel has presently is Canada and what is left of the friendship of America.

So, the brightest minds in America, as already stated, from the time of Jimmy Carter, have tried to solve this thorny problem between Israel and the Pales-tinians, but with no success. President Bush bragged to the world that before he left office, there would be a peace treaty between Israel and the Palestin-ians. It did not happen!

Actually, there is no such thing as Pal-estinians. The name is derived from the ancient Philistines, and, to be sure, there are no Philistines remaining. The people in Israel, who refer to them-selves as Palestinians, are actually Jor-danians, Syrians, Egyptians, etc.

CLARK CLIFFORD

Sometime back, I had the opportu-nity to hear a most interesting inter-view with Clark Clifford, who had been an advisor to every democratic president from Harry Truman all the way to Jimmy Carter. Consequently, he had witnessed so much of modern-day history. As far as I know, this was the last interview that he gave before he died.

As the interview began, it was announced by the host that they would discuss this man’s life, and con-sidering his experience, it promised to be a very eye-opening interview, which it was. However, despite what

the opening remarks were, the entire hour was spent discussing Israel and it becoming a state in 1948.

Mr. Clifford stated how that he was the youngest advisor to President Truman. He went on to state that due to his youthfulness, he had so little place and position that his advice was little sought at that time. While he was present at all the Cabinet meetings, still, it was almost nothing but look and listen.

Mr. Clifford talked about the great struggle in the mind of President Truman as it regarded the forma-tion of the state of Israel. There were arguments about everything. One of the president’s closest friends, George Marshall, even suggested that Amer-ica purchase a small country in Cen-tral America and give that to the Jews.

It must be understood that at that particular time, with World War II having just ended, America, plus many other nations, had a guilty conscience as it regarded the Jews.

Hitler had slaughtered more than 6 million of these people, and it seems that very little had been done to try to stop the slaughter.

There were others who claimed that wherever a state for these ancient people was made possible, it should be named something other than Israel.

President Truman’s closest friend was George Marshall, and Marshall was vehemently opposed to the formation of the state of Israel. So, the argument flew back and forth.

THE LETTER

In answer to the questions posed by the host, Clifford stated that he felt very strongly about Israel becoming a state, how that state must be in the same boundaries as in the Bible, and the state must be named “Israel.” He was asked why he felt that way; was he Jewish?

“No,” he answered, “I’m not Jewish.” He remarked as to how he did not understand why he felt as he did but in his thinking, but he felt he had to somehow get his views to the presi-dent. So, he wrote a letter.

He stated that he couldn’t get an audi-ence with the president, so, assured that the letter would be delivered to the Oval Office, he put down on paper that which he felt about Israel.

A couple of weeks passed, and he forgot about the letter. Then the presi-dent’s secretary called him, stating, “Mr. Clifford, the president wants to see you. Would you be in his office in the morning at 9 a.m.?” He asked the secretary, “Do you know what the president wants?”

She answered in the negative.

The next morning, he was there as he had been called.

He stated how that he walked into the Oval Office and stood before the desk of the president. President Truman was looking down at a letter on his desk and after a few moments, Mr. Clifford recognized it as his letter.

President Truman finally looked up to his youth-ful advisor and asked, “Clark, why do you feel this strongly about Israel, actually stating that her boundaries must be the biblical boundaries, and that this new state must be called ‘Israel’?”

The question threw him, he went on to say. He had no time to think up an answer. Why did he feel as strongly as he did?

He finally blurted out, “Mr. President, I feel as I do because it is the right thing to do.”

He said that the president looked at him for a few moments and then finally said, “Thank you Clark; that’s all.”

He turned and walked from the room, not really knowing if the president appreciated his answer or not. At any rate, he stated that in a couple of weeks, the president announced to the world that he was going to throw the full weight and prestige of the United States of America behind the formation of a state for the Jews, that it must be in the biblical boundaries, and that it must be named “Israel.”

He went on to say that he had no idea if his letter had anything to do with the president’s decision, but he did feel that if he had any influence at all on the president, this was one of the greatest things that he accomplished in his many years of serving as advisor to a number of democratic presidents.

ISRAEL

In fact, shortly before President Truman died, he was taking his customary walk, which he did every morn-ing. That particular morning, a reporter was with him. He was going to write an article on the president, and he was doing all he could to get some information.

He asked the president, “What do you consider to be the thing that you are most proud of that you were able to accomplish as president?”

He was speaking with the man who had given the orders to drop two atomic bombs on Japan, which

THE RISE OF THE ANTICHRIST PART I

ended World War II. This was the man, as well, who had instigated the Marshall Plan to save Western Europe from communism.

The president looked at him and said, “I con-sider the most important thing that I was able to accomplish while in office was the part I played in helping Israel to become a nation.”

The reporter was taken somewhat aback, expecting another answer.

As stated, this was not long before the president passed away. Quite possibly, spiritual things were on his mind. Irrespective, his answer was absolutely correct. He had been led by the Lord to do what he did, in other words, God used him to help fulfill Bible prophecy. Nothing could be more important than that.

THE BEGINNING OF THE GREAT TRIBULATION

At the moment the Antichrist signs the seven-year agreement between Israel and the Muslim world, the great tribulation will begin. As we’ve already stated, he will be able to do what the brightest minds in Amer-ica and elsewhere in the world have not been able to do — bring together the Israelis and the Muslims. How will he do that?

As we’ve also already stated, the Man of Sin will be anointed by the powers of darkness as no other human being has ever been. In other words, Satan will invest more in this man than he has invested in any other down through the ages. This is Satan’s fell swoop, so to speak. If he doesn’t carry out his scheme now to become master of the universe, in other words, dethroning God, he will never be able to do it. This is it, the moment which he has worked toward even from the dawn of time.

To be sure, Satan is self-deceived. He is so deceived that despite what he knows about God as the Creator and being all-powerful and all-knowing, still, he actually thinks that he will be able to overcome the Lord and set his throne up in the place of God.

SATAN

The great Prophet Isaiah gives us a clue as to the thinking of the Evil One. Through the prophet, the Holy Spirit tells us: “How are you fallen from Heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morn-ing! how are you cut down to the ground, which did weaken the nations! (Isaiah’s prophecy now switches from the Antichrist to his unholy sponsor, Satan himself. ‘Lucifer’ is the name of Satan. Actually, he is an angel, originally created by God, who served the Lord in righ-teousness for an undetermined period of time. When he fell, he led a revolution against God, with about one-third of the angels, it seems, throwing in their lot with him [Rev. 12:4]. Therefore, all the pain, suffering, misery, heartache, death, and deception, which have ruled the nations from the very beginning, can be laid at the doorstep of this revolution headed up by Satan).”

I WILL BE LIKE GOD?

“For you have said in your heart, I will ascend into Heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congrega-tion, in the sides of the north:

“I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High. (In these two verses, we see the foment of Satan’s rebellion and revolu-tion against God. It seems that Lucifer, while true to the Lord, was given dominion of the earth, which was before Adam. After his fall, he worked deceitfully to get other angelic rulers to follow him in his war against God.)

“Yet you shall be brought down to Hell, to the sides of the pit. (This would be the lot of Satan and all who seek to be like God, but in a wrong way, in effect, by making themselves god)” (Isa. 14:12-15).

The Evil One has deceived himself in the same manner that he has deceived much of the world and for all time. However, the conclusion for him, and for all who have followed him, and who do follow him, will be eternal Hell, i.e., “the lake of fire” (Rev. 20:10).

THE RISE OF THE ANTICHRIST PART I

A WEEK OF YEARS

How is it that we know this agreement, which will be signed by the Antichrist, plus Israel and the Muslims, and, no doubt, others, as well, will last for seven years?

Daniel is the prophet who gave this information and did so about 2,500 years ago. The account is found in Chapter 9 of the book of Daniel.

The great prophet, it seems, had been in prayer before the Lord for a period of time. At a given point, the angel Gabriel appeared to him.

GABRIEL

I will quote verbatim from The Expositor’s Study Bible: “And while I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God for the holy mountain of my God (Daniel declared that Jerusalem has been called by God’s name and has been chosen by God. Actually, it will be the capital of His eternal kingdom on earth [Ps. 2:6; 48:2; 87:2; 102:16; 132:13; Isa. 2:2-4; Ezek., Chpt. 48; Zech., Chpt. 14]);

“Yes, while I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the begin-ning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation. (Once again, Gabriel is sent to Daniel’s side. The phrase, ‘About the time of the evening oblation,’ referred to 3 p.m., which was the time of the evening sacrifice; however, this does not imply that those offerings were made in Babylon, but simply that, through the nearly 70 years that had intervened since the fall of Jerusalem, the sacred hour had been kept in remembrance, and possibly as one con-secrated to prayer.)

UNDERSTANDING

“And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give you skill and understanding. (‘To give you skill and understanding,’ refers to the future of Israel and last-day events.)

“At the beginning of your supplications the com-mandment came forth, and I am come to show

you; for you are greatly beloved: therefore under-stand the matter, and consider the vision. (The study of Bible prophecy was not for Daniel a mere intellectual entertainment but moral and spiritual nourishment.)

SEVENTY WEEKS OF YEARS

“Seventy weeks are determined upon your people (Israel) and upon your holy city (Jerusalem), to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy. (‘Sev-enty weeks are determined upon your people,’ actually means 70 sevens, which translates into 490 years. This period of time has to do with ‘your people’ and ‘your holy city,’ referring to the Jews and Jerusalem. The second coming of Christ and their acceptance of Him will ‘finish the transgression.’

“‘To make reconciliation [atonement] for iniq-uity,’ refers to the fact that Israel will not only accept Christ at the second coming but will also accept what He did for us at Calvary. One can well imagine this moment, for they are the ones who crucified Christ.

“The phrase, ‘To anoint the Most Holy,’ has to do with the building of the millennial temple, even as described by Ezekiel in Chapters 40 through 48 of his book)” (Dan. 9:20-24).

Daniel declared

that Jerusalem

has been called

by God’s name

and has been

chosen by God.

Actually, it will be

the capital of His

eternal kingdom

on earth .

However, was this really the duty assigned to believers by Christ? No! The Great Commission given to the church was to preach the Gospel to the world, and we were given authority over the hindering spirits of the world to do such! Christians needed this authority so that the Message of the Cross could be spread. Evil and corrupt governing forces are a foe to the true Gospel, not a friend! But, through the prayers, faith, and message of His servants, the Lord can meet the needs of people and nations. As the Word of God is spread, mira-cles, healings, and deliverances follow. The Bible never said that the church would bring peace to the world by joining sociopolitical organizations, doing manual labor, or performing volunteer work! Rather, the power of God, working through the Message of the Cross, was to meet the needs of those who would accept Christ as their personal Saviour and Lord.

SOCIAL ACTION!

However, there are many popular preachers allow-ing the true Gospel message to take a backseat while they focus on defeating global issues at any cost. In the name of missions, these religious lead-ers allow social action — organized programs of socioeconomic reform — to take precedence above all else, but this is not real mission work. Again, real Christian missions are the spread of the Gospel.

Many believers were martyred in past centuries for the uncompromised message of truth they preached, not for ending world hunger.

Nevertheless, these so-called Christian leaders focus their followers on slaying the “global giants,” preaching that problems of illiteracy, disease, and the like are so big that everybody has failed to solve them, including the United States and the United Nations. They claim that the reason nobody has solved these massive problems is because the true solution requires government, businesses, and churches to unite and work in harmony and shared strength in order to produce the desired result of national stability.

Sadly, a majority of today’s church agrees with this plan. Yet, has anyone stopped to consider just what authority we are enthroning? Don’t be naïve! Uto-pian dreams can end in total slavery. Again, where is this type of plan found in Scripture?

WAKE-UP CHURCH!

These are clearly the plans of a mere man and, therefore, without any godly authority. Wake-up church! Who are you serving? Another voice has led you astray, and because this plan is not found in Scripture, you will find yourself serving another. Bear in mind, it is the Antichrist who will attempt to rule a quasi-religious dictatorship. This wicked

THERE ARE CHRISTIAN LEADERS proclaiming that a one-world religion is necessary for a one-world order, and they are working hard to convince the church that this endeavor is part of the Christian’s faith and duty.

THE WILLFUL SIN PART V

man will even come in the name of peace “and by peace shall destroy many” (Dan. 8:25). When you leave the Word of God, you will end up on the wrong team! You see, for the globalists, unity is the name of the game!

Former U.S. Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, also a leader of the Council of Foreign Relations (CFR), predicted that the social structure of a “just world society” would be modeled on the prototypes of totalitarian countries like Soviet Russia and Nazi Germany. It was said of Dulles, one of the chief architects and propagators of this movement, that he believed the use of pro-paganda was essential in shifting public opinion in America from its traditional isolationist stance to a new policy of interdependence. In pursuit of this highly-orchestrated campaign to change public opinion, Dulles and other CFR moguls worked to transform the ideology of the churches, including an essay by Dulles entitled “The Problem Of Peace In A Dynamic World,” which printed in several publications.

Commenting on this essay, Dr. Martin Erdmann wrote: “Dulles outlined the basic concepts of peaceful change and attacked what he regarded to be an unhealthy and obsolete concept of national sovereignty … Human egotism could only be offset, he asserted, by superseding it with ‘some sentiment more dominant and gripping, which would contain the elements of universality as against particularity.’ No other organization would be as uniquely qualified to accomplish this task as the church. Dulles idealized the Christian church as an exemplary community which had demonstrated the ability to transcend the limita-tions of the nation state.”

Dulles’ goal was to motivate the churches to become actively involved in building a global society. You can easily see his plans are not about Jesus Christ but the social gospel designed for a one-world religion!

GLOBALIZATION?

Because of the global order being formed, unity must also be a part of the new gospel that is being preached to the church, but all of this unity is unbiblical! There is a type of unity taught in the Bible, but it refers only to the unity of belief and

doctrine. There is no biblical unity with unbeliev-ers and/or false doctrine. God unifies and creates a body of people based on His truth, and it is only those people who will be able to work together to serve His true cause. The Bible says, “they shall be one in My hand” (Ezek. 37:19). You see, the natu-ral result of believers associating with the world and/or the apostate church is that they will soon discover they cannot preach against sin. If they do, the great and wonderful unity will quickly be broken. Unbelievers do not want to hear about their sins and idolatry. They do not want to be told, “Repent!” In circumstances of false unity, one group of people will end up influencing the other, and the chances are, believers will end up com-promising their position of truth. Your methods can change your message, and if you change your message, remember, it is considered willful sin!

Paul tells us in I Corinthians 15:33, “be not deceived (the statement actually says, ‘do not go on being deceived!’ meaning that many Corinthians had already been deceived into believing there was no resurrection): evil communications corrupt good manners (should have been translated, ‘evil occasions corrupt excellent morals’).”

EVERY WIND OF DOCTRINE!

“Every wind of doctrine” (Eph. 4:14) pushes its audience this way and that; few Christians are able to resist it. For years, false teachings have moved the church in a wrong direction. Many precious Christians started off with good intentions only to find themselves shipwrecked alongside the others they befriended. Standing for the truth and giving a good defense of the Gospel is more important to God than friendships that could cause you to

compromise the Gospel. It is the truth of Scripture that matters first, not the popularity of a ministry or preacher. Jesus told the people the truth even though it offended the religious crowd. Nothing has changed today. If you stand for the truth of Scripture, those who are exposed will always respond in anger. Just expect it!

However, one only has to look at the condition that the world is in today to see that these one-world plans have not succeeded. Our government is in its worst shape since it was founded. Business is so full of corruption that it is in total disarray, and the church is anything but healthy. Overall, the church in America is weak and weary — not strong, not well, and not healthy! Her voice is diminishing because the message has been so watered down! The church’s integrity is lost, and her leaders are not leading. There are damnable doctrines that have been brought into the church today as part of modern religious ideas.

In all of these religious peace plans, the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is not mentioned because in order to partner with the other religions of the world, it had to be left out. Again, unbiblical methods end up changing the message!

THE FINISHED WORK OF THE CROSS

The preaching of Christ’s death, burial, and resur-rection would be an offense to those who believe other methods for salvation and living. The Mus-lims and the Hindus would not partner with anyone if the true Gospel message were the focal point.

As these one-world preachers well know, others will be offended too, and so they compromise to advance their “giant” agendas.

Actually, the whole premise of their giant agenda, which includes global disease, illiteracy, and poverty, is untrue. There is only one giant that needs to be defeated, and that is sin. Sin is what produces all these other problems. The entire cause of every crisis of mankind is sin, and until it is addressed as such, man’s problems will con-tinue! What we really see here is not the truth of the Bible being taught, but rather a change agent at work, shifting the hearts of men away from Jesus to “another Jesus” (II Cor. 11:4). The true Jesus and His finished work at the Cross is the only remedy, and unless the world accepts this,

we will always have poverty, disease, illiteracy, corrupt leadership, and spiritual emptiness.

SERVING SELFJesus Christ and His redeeming power to save men from their evil ways is being replaced by the false gospel of servitude. Serving man rather than serving Jesus Christ is the message of today’s false prophets. Of course, they will deny such, but their fruits prove otherwise. Another false gospel of servitude is the Word of Faith teaching on posi-tive confession. It involves serving self rather than Christ. So-called Christian TV has become the medium for the money gospel; for the most part, they have a monopoly on Christian airwaves. They preach and teach a scheme they call “seed faith” and that such is the means for health and prosperity when, in fact, the seed faith principle, when taught right, is scriptural. I think we could call the modern variety a Ponzi scheme. They take money from faithful Christians only to use it for themselves. These false preachers become richer while the average layman becomes poorer. For years, their teachings have moved the church in the wrong direction, affecting evangelism, discipleship, and tithing. Tithing has, in fact, been redefined by this crowd. People are no longer giving to God because they love Him and want to help further the message of Jesus to a hurting and dying world. People are now giving to get rich! This is indisputably the rotten fruit of a man-made gospel! Indeed, we have every wind of doctrine being preached through the airwaves and in the churches today. All of this is, of course, being preached by men who claim to be Spirit-filled, anointed proph-ets, and apostles. In reality, they are without the Spirit, have become carnally minded, and/or have succumbed to seducing spirits.

The Bible says that if preachers do not speak according to the Word, then they have no light in them. Isaiah 8:20 states: “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this Word, it is because there is no light in them. (The great question should always be, about any situation: is it biblical?)” Believers, you are responsible to follow God’s Word, not your favor-ite personality or the man who’s telling you what you want to hear! Your heart must fully desire the truth, or the wrong desires still left in your heart will pull you away from the faith!

PSALM 77 WAS WRITTEN by Asaph. Asaph was one of the great choir directors during David’s time as it regarded the min-istry of tabernacle worship. Asaph wrote 12 psalms, both the words and the music, and then presented them in tabernacle worship. As well, according to Matthew 13:35, Asaph was also considered a prophet.

TROUBLE

In Verse 2 of Psalm 77, Asaph states, “In the day of my trouble.” While we don’t know exactly what kind of trouble Asaph was experiencing, it was obviously something of great consternation. He would also say, “my sore ran in the night, and ceased not,” meaning there was no rest for him.

The “trouble” was Satan using his situation to try and convince Asaph that the Lord was not interested in helping him. In Verse 7, he asked, “Will the Lord cast off forever? and will He be favorable no more?” Verse 8 states, “Is His mercy clean gone forever? does His promise fail forevermore?”

SATAN’S WAYS

Satan is a liar. He is an accuser. He bom-bards our minds with all kinds of thoughts of some horrible outcome and the lie that

the Lord doesn’t care about us. He wants us to believe the lie. He wants us to dwell on the negative, but just think for a moment. Every one of us has endured times of great crisis, and we have experienced the voice of Satan telling us all the bad things that are going to happen, yet, we are all still here. If Satan could do all the things that he tries to convince us, don’t you think he would have already done it?

Trouble and distress are going to happen. You need to understand that. There is no such thing as a life of ease and comfort. For faith to grow and mature, faith must be tested.

Satan’s desire is for us to take our eyes and thoughts off the Lord and to put them upon us and the problem. Preoccupation with self gives Satan the stronghold he desires. When we focus on self, self becomes larger and larger, and the Lord becomes smaller and smaller. So, what are we to do? The answer is found in this psalm.

SEEK THE LORD

Asaph states, “In the day of my trouble, I sought the Lord.” Faith and fellowship cannot grow without relationship, and rela-tionship can only develop through prayer.

To seek the Lord speaks of prayer. It is through prayer that the Holy Spirit can deal with us, speak to us, and give us comfort and direction.

The majority of the church world today has become so psy-chological that we are no longer told to seek the Lord, but we are told to get “professional help.” Man cannot help you. Only the Lord can help you, and besides, you can’t get any more professional than the One who created the heavens and the earth.

I WILL REMEMBER

In Verse 10, Asaph then said, “But I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High.” Remember what? We are to remember all of our past blessings in Christ Jesus. We are to remember from where Christ brought us. We were lost, sinners headed for judgment and damnation, but Jesus Christ saved us, cleansed us from sin, and adopted us into His family. As we remember His past workings on our behalf, then faith begins to grow for today and for the future.

He then said in Verse 11, “I will remember the works of the Lord.” We are to remember what is given in His Word — all of His great acts for us.

He went on to say, “Surely I will remember Your wonders of old.” This statement refers to all the mighty miracles found in

the Bible. We are to read them, think on them, speak them, and pray them. When this is done, then the Lord becomes bigger and the problem becomes smaller.

MEDITATE

In Verse 12, Asaph said, “I will meditate also of all Your work.” This means that we should constantly be thinking of that which the Lord has done, which, in turn, builds faith. You can meditate on self and become self-absorbed, or you can think on the good things of the Lord.

There is an old spiritual that says: “I woke up this morning with my mind stayed on Jesus.” Just think how much easier our lives would be if our minds were constantly meditating on Christ Jesus.

TALK

Luke 6:45 says, “For of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” The more you talk of all the Lord’s doings, the more faith begins to grow. The more you talk of your problems, the more doubt and faithlessness grows. Murmuring and complaining never develops faith, but constant speaking of the Lord and His mighty acts will always produce faith.

What do you remember? What do you meditate on? What do you speak?

UNITED STATES OVER-THE-AIR (DTV) LISTINGS

For those of you who are not familiar with digital television, these are free “old fashioned TV channels” that are able to be picked up with a digital tuner and antenna. Most new televisions are equipped with built-in digital tuners or you can purchase a tuner from your local electronics store (Best Buy®, Radio Shack®, etc.). As well, you can purchase the proper antenna at your local electronics store. Many viewers under the broadcast signal of the television station can use a small, digital antenna inside the home. For those on the outer edge of the signal or to receive the best signal, an outdoor antenna may be required. Both indoor and outdoor antennas are available for less than $50!

FORMER CATHOLIC IMPRESSED WITH JSM COMMENTARY ON HEBREWS

DEAR EVANGELIST: I just received your Hebrews Com-mentary. Wow! I was a former Catholic and in the seminary (cemetery) for two years. And, I can say as a born-again, Spirit-filled Christian, that the Holy Spirit has brought me a long way. I have been recently watching your TV program and I miss this type of service in a local church here in Tucson, Arizona. I am absorbed in your book daily, reading it with frequency every day. I am 71 years young and still kicking for the Lord, my Saviour. Thanks so much for all your hard work for us Christians.

VIEWER RECEIVES HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM WHILE WATCHING CLASSIC CRUSADE

DEAR EVANGELIST: While watching a Classic Crusade last week of Brother Swaggart, he gave the invitation to be bap-tized in the Holy Spirit. I had been seeking this for a while, and while praying with Brother Swaggart, I felt the utterance and received the baptism. I praise God every day for this gift. Thank all of you for bringing the Message of the Cross. I get a blessing each time I watch SBN. God bless you all!

THANK YOU FOR PRESENTING THE GOSPEL MESSAGE

DEAR EVANGELIST: In 1980, God, through Jimmy Swag-gart (via the television), spoke and presented me with the Gospel. I was a teenager at the time, and I accepted Jesus as my Saviour and Lord. Through all of these past 34 years, I have thanked God, yet never thanked Jimmy for being the one who presented the Gospel to me. I would like to take just a moment and do just that. Thank you Jimmy, thank you very much for standing in the rain, so to speak, holding up the sign warning that the bridge is out; that death is imminent

and certain should you not take the alternate route paved and paid for by Jesus. Thank you for being obedient and presenting the Gospel message. It is my sincere hope that when that day comes you will hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Thank you again. I thank God for you, and will continue to pray for you.

THOSE SWAGGART FELLAS FIRE ME UP FOR THE LORD

DEAR EVANGELIST: I just wanted to say thank you for all that y’all do on SBN. I can’t seem to find a church here at home, but I never felt better after watching your music. I was raised Southern Baptist, but I just had to tell y’all — those Swaggart fellas fire me up for the Lord like I’ve never felt! I just wanted to tell them all thank you very much! The music is absolutely amazing! I’ve never heard “Come Thou Fount,” “I Cried Holy,” and “How Great Thou Art” more powerfully than the way your music team does it! Praise God and thank you again! I just have to drive there one Sunday and be part of a service!

THE LORD IS BEHIND YOUR MINISTRY AROUND THE WORLD

DEAR EVANGELIST: I have been watching and listening to you through SonLife for about five months now, and, grow-ing up Presbyterian, I never heard the full Gospel of Jesus Christ. I am able to receive so much fuel in my soul through you all and it’s now a necessity to be in contact with your programming. I believe with all my heart the Lord is behind you all on your ministry around the world. I am very thankful for all of you, all you do, your strong voice, and the truth of life that is shared.

SONLIFE RADIO MINISTERS TO CANADIAN MAN IN HOSPITAL

DEAR EVANGELIST: My uncle was lying lifeless in the hospital. Doctors had little hope for him to live. His kid-neys were not functioning well due to excessive drinking. It was quite difficult to see him in this condition and knowing what the doctors said echoed repeatedly in my head. Yet I had faith and believed God to turn things around. As I sat by his bedside, I had SonLife Radio playing on my iPhone, and the music that was played filled the hospital room. Suddenly, Donnie prayed and commanded the sickness to leave whoever was listening in. I stretched my hand, prayed, and agreed with Donnie for my uncle’s believing. Within a month, the doctors were surprised that he was improving and decided to discharge him even though he was sup-posed to stay longer. He still has quite a ways to go; he is getting stronger. Because of this radio station, I support your ministry 100 percent. I truly believe this is really of God because we have SBN playing every day in our home here in Canada. We are so remote, isolated from the outside world, yet through SBN, we feel we are closer to you guys. God is good. We love you all.

EXPOSITOR’S STUDY BIBLE IS EASY TO UNDERSTAND

DEAR EVANGELIST: I just wanted to let you know how much I love and enjoy The Expositor’s Study Bible! I strongly encourage anyone who has not gotten one to do so; you will not be disappointed! I find myself reading at the same time every day, and look forward to spending time in the Word! I am so happy to have found SBN, and have also become a Media Church member. Praise God for His grace and mercy, and for the Swaggart family! We finally have found the truth and now it’s easy to understand! Praise God, praise God, praise God!

IT’S NOT AN EVENT; IT’S A MOVEMENT by gabriel swaggart

Mark 16:15-16 – “And He said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he who believes not shall be damned.”

THIS ARTICLE WILL BE a little different from what you are used to seeing each and every single month, but I feel that what we are going to be giving you is what the Lord has laid upon my heart. As we begin a new year, there are many people who will embark upon what are referred to as New Year’s resolutions. Now, we know that many never finish what they start as it regards their resolutions; however, I want to encourage you this year to set aside some time each and every single day to spend with the Lord. Understand that doing this will not gain you anything with God, but it will bring about blessings by drawing you closer to the Lord.

SEEKING THE LORD FOR HIS DIRECTION

The reason that I bring this up is that this is something that I do each morning before I start my day. After I drop my girls off at school, I park somewhere on the ministry property to seek the Lord and to get into His Word. It is during these times that the Lord ministers to my heart and gives me direction, help, leading, and understand-

ing. A few months ago (I believe it was the month of June), while seeking the Lord one morning, I asked the Lord for His direction regarding what He wants me to do for my meetings for the upcoming year. I asked Him what he wants me to do and where He wants me to go. The Lord began deal-ing with my heart about doing something that was completely out of my element, in a sense. He moved upon my heart to do something that, in all honesty, I have never really done before. He instructed me to begin holding rallies in cities across the country, with us renting the facilities and taking with us our singers and musicians, whom you see and hear every day on the SonLife Broadcasting Network. In other words, we understand that due to many and varied reasons, most of you are not able to come to Baton Rouge, so we are bringing Baton Rouge to you!

WE ARE BRINGING BATON ROUGE TO YOU

We are coming to you! I cannot tell you how overwhelmed that I was when the Lord began to deal with me about this. Imme-

I feel that what we are going to be giving you is what the Lord has laid upon my heart.

diately, I began to question if this was really the Lord, or was it out of my own mind. As the days turned into weeks, that feeling never left. I never mentioned this to anyone, for I wanted to make absolutely certain that what I was hearing was coming from the Lord. Then, the Lord revealed it to me in a way that I knew what I was hearing and feeling was right. I was at the lunch table with my grandparents. During the course of the conversation, my grandfather mentioned to me what I should do with my upcoming meetings, and the words that came out of his mouth were exactly what the Lord had been dealing with me about. Talk about shocked! That’s exactly what I was, and I could not believe what I was hearing. It was during that lunch that my mind was settled. I came home and began to explain to Jill what the Lord was speaking to my heart, and we both knew that this was the right thing to do. However, once again, this was something that neither one of us had done outside of Baton Rouge. We began to discuss what needs to be done, who we need to take, and where we need to go. Once again, we were completely overwhelmed, but we knew we had heard from Heaven. Then the Lord began to deal with us about where He wanted us to go for our very first meeting.

BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA

In August of last year, I had the privilege to be in Oxford, Alabama, with a dear friend, John Lanier. He had asked me to minister at his 25th anniver-sary of being in ministry. We had such a great time and a tremendous service. It was then that the Lord began to deal with my heart about the city of Birmingham, which is very close to Oxford, Alabama. Jill and I, along with several others with whom I spoke, began to look into the city of Birmingham and to see what locations would be appropriate for a meeting like this. Now, I have to be completely honest with you, dear reader, I was only looking for something that was small. We met with several people, including one who really did not know the Lord, but he knew venues and loca-tions. While discussing this, he turned to me and told me that I was thinking too small. His words

to me were that what we are going to do is going to be much more than what I could even think. He and some of our people here at the ministry, Dave Cooper and Hazel Semper, began to look at venues in Birmingham, Alabama. They found a location that would be perfect — the concert hall at the Birmingham Convention Center. After a few days of discussion, we were able to work out a date — March 20, 2015. For Jill and me, this begins a new chapter in our ministry, and we cannot express to you how excited, nervous, and anxious that we are for this meeting! I’m ready for it to get here now, and I want to encourage you that if you are near Birmingham, Alabama, come out and join us for a great one-night rally. You will hear the Family Worship Center singers and musicians and the preaching of the Gospel that will be a blessing to your life.

IT’S NOT AN EVENT; IT’S A MOVEMENT

Now, we will not be doing a whole lot of travel-ing this year, as we are using this year as a time to get some of these meetings under our belts. However, this is not the only meeting that we will be having this year, so stay tuned to see where we will be coming throughout the year. I’m excited about this, and I believe that you will be as well. Come out March 20, 2015, and expect a blessing. In closing, what we are doing is not just an event; it’s a movement!

For Jill and me, this begins a new chapter in our ministry, and we cannot express to you how excited, nervous, and anxious that we are forthis meeting!

THE CIRCUMSTANCE OF DESPAIR

As a believer, there should never come a time when we doubt the willingness of God to work out the affairs of this life for us. Having said the obvious, let me also say that there is never a time when the believer will be completely free from facing any manner of difficulties or untoward circumstances. This life is a challenge to our faith on every front. The believer is constantly tasked with choosing to either believe God to resolve the issues at hand or to attempt to carry the burden of the circumstance in our own strength. Just a few days ago, I found myself facing this choice once again. I wish I could say that discouragement had not reared its ugly head and roared unbelief into my heart, but that would be far from the truth. At that moment, the situations I was facing seemed to be too hope-less, and I was feeling quite low regarding the possibilities of successfully traversing through the issues at hand. As is my custom, I sought the Lord in regard to the situation and turned to His Word for direction. In my daily reading, the text above was included. As my eyes fell upon the words of II Peter 2:9, the Spirit of God moved upon my heart and encouraged me to believe God to resolve the problems at hand. Despair left and hope arose as I looked a little more closely at the Word of God.

THE BREATH OF HOPE

The first thing that struck me as truth was the words, “The Lord knows.” I suddenly realized that the Lord knew exactly where I was and what I was

going through. Faith in the Lord starts here. We should realize that every circumstance in our lives is watched over by the Lord. He is always aware of the circumstances surrounding His children and their needs. He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us. He that watches over Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps. He will perfect those things that concern us. He knows! He knows! He knows! We are not alone in our circumstances.

Secondly, I saw that the “Lord knows how to deliver.” While I may not see any way out of or through the difficulty at hand, the Lord not only sees my circumstance, He also sees the way through the issue. He doesn’t just see “a” way through the wil-derness, He sees “the best way” through the dark-ness. He always does what is best for His children. He knows the proper path and will guide me through the darkest night by the light of His Word and the precious presence of His Spirit. He knows the way out of my mess! He knows what I’m going through, and He knows how to deliver me from the situation. My responsibility is that of faith. I am to trust Him to lead, to guide, to supply, and to deliver whatever I may need in every situation. The Lord knows how! He knows how to deliver! He knows how to deliver me! He will deliver me from this situation!

WHO QUALIFIES AS GODLY?

But wait! Who will the Lord deliver? Does my life have to be one of “perfect performance” to earn His favor and care? Will I have had to do every-thing just perfectly to gain access to His delivering

Why WEBC&S?

THE LORD KNOWS HOW TO DELIVER THE GODLY

“When the Lord sent me to WEBC&S, I never imagined how profoundly enlightening it would be. To be able to learn the true depth of the Word of God from the anointed pro-fessors here is amazing. Whether it’s the class on Acts, Colossians, Romans, Old Tes-tament Survey, or the Life of Christ, they are all my favorites because it is all the Message of the Cross. Every class reveals the Word of God in a way, I pray, that every man, woman, and child on earth could experi-ence. I look forward to the next semester and the next. Glory!”

power? Do I qualify for the Lord’s help? If performance were the criterion, then the Lord could help no one. The context (II Peter 2:4-8) of this text answers the questions.

In verse 5, the person of Noah is addressed. Most Bible stu-dents would agree that Noah was a godly man. God entrusted him with the building of the ark at a time when the hearts of men were only evil continuously. He was a man of sacrifice and a preacher of righteousness. He carried out the will of God at a very important time in man’s history.

The word godly indicates a man that God sees as righteous. What kind of person does God see as righteous? Who does God award righteousness to? The biblical answer comes through the person of Abraham. The Bible says that Abraham believed God and it was accounted to Him for righteous-ness. So, all those who believe in God’s redemption plan are declared righteous and worthy of God’s help. In the content of our text, this is illustrated even further by the mention of Lot.

We can all see why God might declare Abraham and Noah godly or righteous, but how could the Holy Spirit direct Peter

to choose this reference regarding Lot? We’re speaking of the man who pitched his tent toward Sodom and Gomorrah, the man who committed incest, and the man who fathered two nations of people who opposed the children of Israel? What good can we find in Lot? The answer: only by faith. Lot knew the truth and believed it. While I do not advise traveling the path that Lot traveled (the consequences of sin are always devastating and destructive), God saw his faith and delivered him out of the horror that would fall upon Sodom and Gomorrah.

Therefore, if God delivers those who believe in Christ and Him crucified (the godly), I qualify! So, even if my performance has been less than perfect and pristine (again, not a lifestyle to be advised), I can still count on God to have mercy and deliver me from my current nightmare. The Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations. He only asks that we have faith in the redemption plan that was carried out by Christ at Cal-vary, and that we learn to trust Him to see us through every circumstance. He has delivered me, He is delivering me, and He will deliver me!

GOD DID NOT FORESTALL the political birth of the United States of America due to slavery. The scourge of slavery was predominantly opposed by American Christian missionaries acting as poseurs for abolition against slavery. Warnings pertaining to slavery resounded from our missionaries in the Middle East. In the case of Harriet Livermore, spoken from Mount Zion, she prophesied, “Great national calamities are awaiting the United States as punishment for its permissiveness toward slav-ery.” Nearly 20 years later, the dawn of the Civil War bore witness to the outcome of God’s warn-ing. Abraham Lincoln accredited three books that shaped his life and thinking: the Bible, Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan, and Sufferings in Africa by James Riley. Riley had been captured by Arabs after being shipwrecked off the coast of the Spanish Sahara and was driven across the desert. He was flogged, beaten, and reduced to just 90 pounds until he was ransomed by the British Consul at the port city of Mogadore. His book became a national sensation, selling 1 million copies over the next 40 years. He urged Americans to cut down “the cursed tree of slavery and to shiver in pieces the rod of oppression.” Many other well-knowns, such as the father of our educational system, Horace Mann, were outspoken opponents to slavery.

TO FORGET IS FOOLISHNESS

To forget slavery would be as foolish as trying to forget the Holocaust. It must serve as a reminder of the cruelty of man to force man to serve man. African Americans of the Civil War era did not liken slavery to the plight of American slaves in Algiers, but to ancient Jews in Egypt. One such

preeminent leader, Frederick Douglas, recalled, “We meant to reach the North, and the North was Canaan.”

Many in my family, on my father’s side, were exter-minated in the Holocaust. I often remind myself of the horror they must have felt when the sound of the boots from German Gestapo soldiers marched down the streets of Germany in rhythmic patterns, and then, the blunt knocking on doors. Their hearts pounded within their chests with anxiety in anticipation of being taken away from home and family. Stricken people were torn from each other and sentenced to death for simply being Jewish. We must never forget slavery and the plight of those before us who suffered its torment. It is an ever constant reminder of how each of us should look upon one another with love and respect.

A NEW IDENTITYThe result of the Gospel message is so strong that it changes the heart and life — as a result, being born again — for all who embrace Jesus Christ and Him crucified. It gives the believer a new identity. This is essential for us to understand. The fact that old things are passed away and all things become new (II Cor. 5:17) removes the believer’s past and changes his identity. Christian believers “have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him who created him: where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all” (Col. 3:10-11). The Christian believer now can live identified to a new race. Paul would say to the church of Galatia, “For you are all children of God by faith in Christ

Jesus … There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Gal. 3:26, 28).

The sullen stains of racism still brood in the hearts of many today. The idea of one race being better than another has hurt America, notwithstanding Jews and others around the world. This kind of thinking ultimately created an Adolph Hitler. The belief is that a master race exists and by the extermination of an inferior race, this will enable the new superior race to manifest(?), or, as with slavery, the inferior race is to serve the superior race. For example, Islam makes this very clear by claiming all who are not believers of Allah and his prophet are classified as dihimmi, a second class or sub-class of people. They must pay jitzia, a poll tax, and are subject to minimal rights, unlike other Muslims.

A principle has emerged that our commitment to diversity has redefined the opposition to discrimination as the apprecia-tion, rather than the elimination, of difference when it comes to equality and recognition. We have also come to think of disagreement as a form of prejudice. If we fail as believers to approach the heartbeat of our social issues with a truly biblical approach, then we will fall prey to believing that skin color is a culture, sexual preference is a culture, religion is a culture, etc. Therefore, if we do not accept someone’s culture, we are being intolerant and even racist or bigoted. May we see each other as our Lord and Saviour sees us—saved or unsaved. Those of us who are saved must work together as one to bring the message that will bring true unity to man — at the meeting place of God and man — in Christ Jesus.

THE NEW CULTURAL WARS

Our society’s new modus vivendi (way of life) toward universal tolerance is to champion diversity. Earlier I mentioned that our commitment to diversity has redefined the opposition to discrimination as the appreciation, rather than the elimination, of difference when it comes to equality and recognition.

God visited His people with a marvelous outpouring of His Holy Spirit at the turn of the 20th century. In 1905, a young black Louisiana man, who attended a Bible school founded by Charles Parham in Houston, Texas, was used by God to usher in modern Pentecostalism. William J. Seymour, at this Azusa Street Mission in Los Angeles, California, rejected racial barriers in favor of unity in Christ. “The color line as was washed away by the blood,” said writer Frank Bartleman, testifying of his experience at Azusa Street. Sadly, within only a decade, the great Pentecostal Movement slowly began to splinter, and a racial divide was formed. Instead of the pulpit addressing the racial issue biblically by preaching messages of true Christian unity through faith, the division identified with culture. Instead of interracial comity (civility, courtesy),

segregation took its ugly shape, and doubly worse, doctrinal separation gave validity to division and solidified the racial divide as well. Because the pulpit did not spiritually address racism, it became a social issue.

THE BIBLE

The Bible gives us a clear understanding of the function of the five-fold ministry gifts and the result that follows in Ephesians 4:11-13: “And He gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.”

TRUE BIBLE UNITY

True biblical unity has to do with our proper object of faith. God made the Cross His object of acceptance. He looks at our faith by the finished work of the Cross, His perfect expression of grace, and accepts us in the beloved (Eph. 1:6). It is there at the Cross that we’re all reconciled unto God, and the enmity is abolished — man toward God and man toward man. Christ is all and in all who are His! Glory to God! The bloodline settles it all! He is our peace.

Now that we are in Christ, we are a new creature with old things passed away (II Cor. 5:17). We are then given a ministry of reconciliation. In II Corinthians 5:18, the Bible says, “And all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ, and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation.”

RACISM

If the true church of Christ doesn’t operate and function as a New Testament church with proper unity, can we expect the world to accomplish eliminating racism? Here’s our problem: We have allowed other voices to rise up and address the outward issues; issues that are really the symptoms of the inner problem. Fortunately, Jesus Christ heals the heart and, “He delivers the poor in his affliction, and opens their ears in oppression” (Job 36:15).

Racism has greatly oppressed our country for years. It is still a festering sore. We must listen to what the Spirit is saying to the church in this hour. I believe a time of healing has begun. I believe it can also be a time of greater divide if we do not approach racism biblically and with love and patience. Jesus Christ has “ … redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation” (Rev. 5:9). The word nation in the Greek is ethnos and means “race.” There-fore, God is color-blind to race when it comes to salvation and equality. Should we be any different?

TRUTH

To many people, truth is an expendable commodity. They see it as optional, negotiable, and pliable. I wish I could tell you that I’m talking about those outside of the four walls of the church but, sad to say, I’m talking about many who call themselves Christians. To make it more grievous, there are many behind the pulpits in America today who have a fleet-ing relationship with truth. God, give us men and women who will say, “I will preach the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help me God.”

TRUTH THROUGH CONSENSUS

Many today advocate another source of truth. They feel that man has become so intellectual and so advanced that he is now somehow capable of establishing truth. Many times, truth is arrived at through a process called “consensus.” This new and improved truth is usually acceptable to the flesh and an abomination unto God.

THE REMOVAL, RETRACTION, AND REDIRECTION OF TRUTH

In many religious organizations, it has become “truth through committees.” In many cases, God’s truth has been replaced by half truths and total fabrications in order to advance man’s agenda. By majority vote, they have removed foundational teachings such as: Original Sin, the virgin birth, the baptism with the Holy Spirit, the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the rapture of the church, the millennial reign of Christ, miracles, and much more. They have “changed the truth of God into a lie” (Rom. 1:25). Isaiah said it well when he said, “Woe unto them who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness

for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!” (Isa. 5:20-21).

THE CROSS SETS US APART The Cross sets us apart from all other religions. Without the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, there is no forgiveness of sin, no atonement, no redemption, no justification, no sanctification, and no ultimate glorification. Yet, this is one of the greatest areas in which we see the truth of God’s Word under attack. In most churches, all references to the blood of the Lamb of God, the Cross, and Calvary have been ceremonially removed from the songs, the Sunday schools, and the sermons. Instead, they replace it with a man-made, humanistic counterfeit to God’s truth.

GOD’S TRUTH CHANGES NOT God’s truth cannot change from generation to generation, from person to person, or as a result of changing circum-stances. God’s truth is not pliable to be bent to suit our own selfish needs. The truth is rarely unanimous. It is rarely popular. Sometimes the truth does hurt or is inconvenient. Sometimes truth forces us to change our lifestyles in order to align ourselves with God’s truth.

DO YOU LOVE THE TRUTH? Christians should love the truth. “Lead me in Your truth, and teach me: for You are the God of my salvation; on You do I wait all the day” (Psalms 25:5). God’s truth is not optional, negotiable, or pliable. Our cry should be “Give me the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help me God.” He will.

WHAT IS TRUTH? In the simplest form, truth is whatever God says. In reality, truth is Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Jesus said of Himself, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by Me” (Jn. 14:6). The source of truth is, therefore, God Himself, and He has revealed it in His Word.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

First of all, I want to wish each and every one of you a happy New Year, actually, the greatest year that you’ve ever had. If you know the Lord Jesus Christ, and I’m cer-tainly believing that you do, then whatever else there is will ultimately fall into place, in one way or the other. Knowing the Lord is the primary thing.

TELEVISION

There are 115 million homes in America that have a tele-vision set or sets. We are presently airing in more than 73 million of these homes. Actually, by the time you read this, the number could be up to 75 or 76 million. We will not rest until the SonLife Broadcasting Network goes into every home in America, and to be frank with you, that goes for the entirety of the world. How we thank the Lord that in country after country, even though in many of these places we do not go in by cable, still, we do by satel-lite and the Internet. In fact, if they so desire, approxi-mately 2 billion people can tune into the programming of the SonLife Broadcasting Network.

THE MESSAGE OF THE CROSS

The other day, somebody asked us if we are trying to start a new movement, etc., because of the title, “The Message Of The Cross.” No, we aren’t!

Actually, that particular title comes straight from the Bible. Paul said: “For the preaching of the Cross is to them who perish foolishness; but unto us who are saved it is the power of God” (I Cor. 1:18).

The word preaching in the Greek is logos and should have been translated “the message of the Cross.” The word logos actually means “message” or “word.” As to exactly why the King James translators used the word preaching, I have no idea.

THE INTERPRETATION OF THE DREAM

Some 3,700 years ago in the land of Egypt, the Lord gave two dreams to Pharaoh. Of course, this heathen monarch did not know what they meant, and his soothsayers and magicians did not know either. So, Joseph was called in.

The first dream would begin to come to pass very shortly, with Joseph being placed in charge. It pertained to seven years of harvest such as Egypt had never known before, followed by seven years of famine. To make it brief, it took that, the famine, to bring Jacob to Joseph.

The second dream, I believe, has not yet been ful-filled. I believe it pertains to that which is right ahead of us. I believe the seven years of plenty — represented by the seven buds on the stalk that were healthy and vibrant — represent the coming harvest of souls such as the world has never known before. It was followed by seven buds that were wasted and famished. That pertains to the coming seven-year great tribulation. As stated, none of this has been fulfilled yet. I believe we are on the very edge of the greatest harvest of souls the world has ever known. I believe the Lord has told me that this min-

istry (Jimmy Swaggart Ministries) is going to play a great part in this harvest.

OUR PARTICIPATION

This leads to the following statement: to think that we have the privilege of having a part in the fulfillment of a dream given 3,700 years ago is astounding indeed! To have that privilege is a privilege unexcelled. I would hope that you could see how blessed and fortu-nate that all of us are to have this opportunity. Think about it! It was a dream given to a heathen monarch 3,700 years ago but interpreted by one of the godliest men who ever lived, Joseph, and now it is about to come to pass. Let me give you another clue.

THE TWO DREAMS GIVEN TO JOSEPH

Before Joseph was sold by his brothers into Egypt, the Lord gave him two dreams.

In the first dream, he saw several sheaves of grain bowed to his sheaf, which was fulfilled a short time later when his brothers went into Egypt and bowed before him, not recognizing who he was. They were trying to buy grain, which they did.

The second dream pertained to the sun and moon and 11 stars, which bowed before Joseph. In this dream, Joseph was a type of Christ. The sun, the moon, and the 11 stars represented the 13 tribes of Israel, which will bow at the feet of Jesus when He comes back at the second coming. It will take that to bring Jacob to Jesus. Of course, that dream has not yet been fulfilled. Both of Joseph’s dreams had to do with the immediate future and the distant future. Likewise did Pharaoh’s dreams.

I’m trying to get you to understand how important that all of this is. In fact, it is the move of God that is begin-ning to take place in the world today.

No, I’m not overstating the case. If anything, I am under-stating it.

Thank you so much for praying for us, for supporting us with your finances, and for helping us to fulfill that which was prophesied, in a sense, some 3,700 years ago.

Again, Happy New Year to you and yours.

In the Master’s service, yours,

Jimmy Swaggart
