With the average age of 81, many had to overcome health adversities to participate. Coinciding with the centenary of America’s involvement with the war, World War I and American

Art will be the first major exhibition devoted to exploring the ways in which American artists reacted to the First World War. The war's impact on art and culture was enormous, as nearly all of the era's major American artists interpreted their experiences, opinions and perceptions of the conflict through their work. This lecture will explore PAFA's exhibition themes and images as well as discuss the artists who chronicled their experiences of the unfolding war as it crept closer to home and then involved them directly as soldiers, relief workers, political dissenters, and official war artists. We will take a look at Meryl's career as a young student at Yale Drama School, as an acclaimed actress on Broadway, and one of the most admired and successful star in cinematic history. We will view excerpts from several of her great roles in films such as Sophie's Choice, The Iron Lady, and Julie

and Julia, as well as see her in some of her lighter singing roles in Into the Woods and Mama Mia. Bagel breakfast included.
