Pleasant News January 2020

From the Administrator

Jalane White [email protected]

Happy New Year! Seems like yesterday, we were ushering in the year 2019, and now it’s 2020.

I hope that our readers had an opportunity to attend a neighborhood Christmas party this last month. They were spectacular and well-attended as usual. A special thanks to Santa (Phil Ratzlaff) for Ho-Ho-Ho-ing through so many events. Also a big thanks to our staff who always come through for our resi-dents and made it wonderful.

So here we are, launching into another new year. We are ready to face the challenges and look for-ward to all the positive rewards we receive from caring for our elder residents.

Just a reminder, we must have a copy of the new Medicare card for every resident. A copy is re-quired at the physician offices and with other pro-viders, so having a copy of the card is a must.

Second reminder, all of the gifts of clothing must be marked with a resident name, before they go to the laundry. If you need a marker or name tags, just let the staff know.

We had a busy December hosting neighborhood Christ-mas parties and enjoying carolers and

piano recitals from the Inman Elementary kids. The residents thoroughly enjoyed having visits from

the kids. We look forward to many more activities and outings in the new year

and are thankful for the past year. We look forward to what the new year may bring.

FOLKLORE FOR THE SEASON

Fog in January brings a wet spring. A favorable January brings us a good year.

If grass grows in January, it will grow badly the whole year. A summer-ish January, a winterish spring.

For your information from Peggy Martens: I’ve turned in my notice that I will retire from doing

hair at Pleasant View Nursing Home/Estates. The last day has not been determined at the time of this writ-ing but notice was given for February 1st. I’ve en-joyed working here for the past nineteen and one-half years and will miss the people but I feel that it is my time to call it quits for the weekly job of cosmetolo-gy. My farm gives me plenty of work in the summer and in the winter, I’m hoping to get my family histo-ry books caught up and photo’s that are in boxes at least labeled or organized.

Chaplain’s News Article Hebrews 11:39a

All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith…

In a letter to his son Eduard, Albert Einstein gave this advice: “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” His ad-vice is wise and practical. The Christian life often has been compared to a marathon race, which I have never attempted; it is long (over 26 miles long), and tortuous. Almost every runner admits to “hitting the wall,” when they are tempted to QUIT! This brings to mind a painful experience in my own life; with over a year yet to complete my seminary requirements, I was SO tempted to quit, and “go out to find a church to pastor.” Looking back, I am very glad that I “stuck it out!”

But there are some professing believers who apparently don’t “stick it out.” They quit. One man reportedly told his wife – as he was leaving her – that he was tired of all the pressure and expectations that others had placed upon him. So, what’s the antidote? Three things: a) Remember that God is a faithful rewarder (Hebrews 11:6, “Anyone who comes to Him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him.”) b) Know that one day each one of us will give account of our lives (2 Cor. 5:10 “We must all stand before Christ to be judged;”) and c) Remember that God will supply what I lack (2 Cor. 9:8 “God is able to make all grace abound toward you…”). May the year ahead be one of spiritual success for Christ!

Each Thursday evening at 6:30 P.M. a chapel service is held, generally last-ing 40-45 minutes; and we are thankful for the following chapel speakers this month: 1) January 2, Pastor Alden Dick

2) January 9, Mr. Ralph Vogel 3) January 16, Pastor Willmar Harder, Buhler Mennonite

Church

4) January 23, Chaplain Dave

5) January 30, Zoar Mennonite Church will minister

Recently the following residents have passed on to receive their eternal re-ward: 1) Shirley Stout, on December 5

2) Phil Linenberger, on December 10. May God provide peace and comfort to family members left behind. A blessed New Year to you all!

MaKenzie Villarreal [email protected]

We have welcomed in the new year. Where did 2019 go? December was another busy year for Plaza. We had our

annual Christmas party and had a blast! Every resident was presented with a Christmas present from the staff. We

enjoyed homemade chicken and noodles and chili along with lots of pie. The residents sure felt the love that night.

We had no birthdays in December but this month we will celebrate Mandy Gunn, on January 1st, Susan Watson, on January 3rd, and Mereko Barker, on January 10th. Lots to

celebrate!

We are ready for whatever the new year has to offer us and feel blessed to have another year to love and cherish all our friends and family. As always if you have any questions or

concerns feel free to call or email me at any time.

HARVEST HOUSE DECEMBER

Holiday season has been in full swing here at Harvest House. A tradition continued as Lois, Meribeth, and

Mary Lou made delicious pepper nuts. For our family gifts this year Ramona helped make pomegranate hand

scrub, which smelled incredible. Thanks to all the families, residents, and employees of Harvest House for

making our Christmas celebration a memory we’ll never forget.

Merry Christmas from Harvest House!

Hello fellow residents and staff! We had a lot of fun activities going on this month from our Vets café out in the Es-tates to Christmas crafts and our annu-al Christmas Party, which had a big turn out. Thank you for all the families and friends that attended. We are sad to say we lost a member of our family this month; Phil Linenberger went to be with

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Praying that you had a good year and that your year 2020 will be the best ever! May we look to the Lord in all that we do and bless others with our thoughtfulness and smiles! Little things mean so much even though it doesn’t take much of our time. Remember…. God’s Golden Rule “So in everything, do unto others what you would have them do to you” (Matthew 7:12).

We had a very busy December. The Christmas Banquet was a huge success. We had a wonderful meal and great music by The Sweet Adelines. Thank you everyone who helped in making this a great evening for our residents!

We also took a bus trip to see the Christmas lights in Inman, Hutchinson, and in Buhler. Beautiful!

We’ve had great Coffee hours around our dining table in the PH I Coffee Shop. Anyone is welcome and all types of topics are discussed. There is great coffee, sweets by Darla (three days a week), and other treats that residents bring down to share. Come check it out! We have been doing special crafts with used Christmas cards and had a Snack Fest that went over big. There is always something going on. We are planning a New Years Party and hope to have a wonderful time.

Have a Blessed January!

Until Next Time, Brenda Goering
