Clinic Explanation:

Percutaneous laser disc decompression (PLDD) is a type of surgery in which a laser probe is inserted into the

intervertebral disc space and laser energy applied for achieving decompression and neuromodulation thereby relieving

the pain. PLDD is a minimally invasive procedure that falls into the category of percutaneous intervertebral surgeries

with the aim to significantly reduce the patients pain and recover neurological deficit.

Operation procedure:

1.The patient will be instructed to take a prone position on the table of the CT-scan

2.placing sterile drapes the level of treatment is identified by a scan

3.local anesthesia of the skin and underlying muscles

4.Using a 18G needle placed is inserted 10 cm from the midline, pointing toward the center of the disc,the correct

position is verified using using biplane fluoroscopy or sometimes in combination with CT imaging

5.laser fiber is inserted through the needle into the center of the nucleus pulposus

6.Laser energy is delivered into the nucleus pulposus to vaporize its content and to reduce intradiscal pressure.. until

the patients subjective response indicates complete relief of radicular pain or approximately 2000 joules of energy

has been delivered.

7.During the operation, using the Y-valve for lymphosuction when patient feel swelling.

Notice:
