History
• August 2010: Church adopted 7 recommendations of the Family Ministry Committee which included studying the location and equipment for a safe, secure play area for children.• Committee members: Les and Melanie Adams, Lisa and Bill Wiebking
The Recommendation
• “Allocation of funds not to exceed $40,000 to Lonely Branch Builders, Inc. of Lynchburg, Virginia, and such other persons specially contracted, for the purchase and installation of playground equipment and timber borders adjacent to the church building.”
• Jointly approved by The Deacon Board, Finance Committee, and Building & Grounds.
Previous Business Meeting
• Motion tabled for reconsideration on Aug 21. • Concerns about:– Policies– Supervision– Security
• Concerns about removing storage building will be dealt with in a separate motion after the playground decision.
Play Area Criteria
• Commercial school-type equipment• Meets all recognized safety standards– Cushioned “fall zone”– Safe equipment design
• Suitable for preschool and elementary– Not for teens, no basketball goals
• Fence to securely contain children• Level site
The Location
Step 1: Site Preparation
• Raise grade to level of building grade • Cost:– $6,000.00 for fill dirt– $2,000.00 for labor and equipment– ($4,000.00 estimate removal of old bldg)
• Total cost: approx. $8,000 - 12,000• Wayne Haskins to do site work• Fall, 2011 if approved

Policies• “Play at your own risk” – Posted on fence• Written policies to include:– Play area for supervised play only.– Children must be accompanied by adult parent,
guardian, or church volunteers.– Play area restricted to use by 2-12 year olds.– No smoking, glass containers, or other hazardous
substances.– Play area can be reserved for private functions.
• Possible addition of CCTV for monitoring, if needed.
Storage Building Recommendation
• The Deacons, Finance Committee, Building & Grounds, and the Family Ministry Committee recommend the removal of the storage building during the site work for the play area, at a cost not to exceed $4,000.00.
