2:50 Building the Road to a Real-Time Infrastructure

Jim Thompson, Vice President and General Manager, Open Source Development, Systems & Technology, Unisys

Industry analysts envision a world where IT infrastructures are autonomic, automatic, invisible, available, low cost, and totally responsive to the business needs of the enterprise. But the path to achieve this state of “IT Nirvana” is rarely articulated. Unfortunately, too many roadmaps to “IT Nirvana” offer a continuous cycle of incremental improvements to current product lines, when truly transformational steps are needed to achieve a new level of capabilities.

This presentation will discuss specific core innovations within a roadmap that will transform the current IT state-of-the-art – delivering Unisys Real-Time Infrastructure that provides cost effective, consistent, and predictable Business Quality of Service for the enterprise.

adoption and prominence to the point where it is being regarded as mainstream. The high level of satisfaction engendered by virtual machine technology at this stage is associated primarily with its ability to quickly deliver tactical, high ROI results focused on consolidation and provisioning. Its greatest potential however, may lie in its ability to act as a catalyst to drive transformative change, moving IT from a cost centre to a disciplined, rationalised, integrated component of an agile real time infrastructure. The challenge is in determining how to balance short term needs (and obvious benefits) with strategic potential.

4:35 Responding to our Changing Global Environment

Chris Teeling, Account Manager, Unisys

This is an essential session to help leaders understand the lightning-fast IT and business changes occurring globally and how to respond. This session will discuss today’s drivers for change. The focus of this session is:

• What are the drivers of change today? • What impacts may we see on businesses, working environment,

colleagues, staff and families? • Opportunity or threat? How should we view these impacts? • Based on your view what is an appropriate response? And how do

you seize opportunities by setting the direction for people, processes and technology.

Developed in conjunction with Consumer Link, one of New Zealand’s leading market research companies, the Index provides a regular, statistically robust measure of perceptions towards four areas of security - National, Financial, Internet and Personal security. In addition to a standardised set of questions in each survey, specific, one-off questions are included alongside the Index to reflect key issues at that point in time. Launched in 2006 Unisys has now conducted three surveys in New Zealand. The Index is also conducted in each of Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and

9:50 Making the MOST of Automation

Jim Malnati, Unisys Automation Consultant, Unisys and Neville Kroeger, Senior Vice President of Technology, SMA

Maximum Operations and Systems Trust (MOST) is a suite of SMA and Unisys point products that synergistically solve data centre problems. After a brief introduction to MOST, this presentation will focus on how customers are using OpCon/xps, Operations Sentinel (SPO), and EOM (DEPCON) to reduce costs and improve quality. Each product solves different pieces of the Systems Management puzzle, and this presentation will describe how real-world sites continue to benefit years after implementation. Return On Investment is naturally high, but when these products are implemented together the returns are vast. This presentation will describe how companies have implemented MOST and exactly how they have benefited.

1:50 ClearPath and SOA Evolution – the Technology Standards and Building Blocks Architecture View

Rudi Chati, Senior Architect, Unisys

This session will discuss the industry standard software available in the ClearPath portfolio for constructing the various service layers in a SOA – including segregation and abstraction of the business logic from data access logic. The re-usability of these service layers in the construction of a composite application is required for the modernisation transformation step and for execution. This understanding is important for Technology Officers and Application Modernisation Architects and will help in refining the IT modernisation, integration and transformation strategies. The versatility and agility of the ClearPath systems in SOA will be illustrated using various proof-of-concept scenarios.

10:00 Core Business Transformation: Simplifying management complexity in ClearPath composite application development

Stuart Smith, Program Manager, Unisys

Industry analysts such as Gartner, IDC, and Forrester are calling Software Configuration Management a "must have" solution. Increasing regulatory compliance, brittle and inflexible processes, missed deadlines and budget overruns are no longer just IT project issues but have the attention of senior executives as strategic business issues. SOA projects are now becoming mainstream and heterogeneous development projects for composite applications are the new business reality. Unisys has a progressive solution that uses a common, work flow enabled approach to managing the development of .NET, Unisys, and Unix/Linux based technologies in a single framework. We address the strategy and approach and then show how it is possible to manage Agile Business Suite, C++, COBOL, and Eclipse (Java or other Open source projects) development in an integrated fashion. A small demonstration will be part of the presentation.
