Reykjavik is the capital of
Iceland. The total population
is around 200,000.
The plate tectonically activity
for Reykjavik, Iceland is
volcanoes. A ridge called the
oceanic ridge is splitting
Reykjavik. Volcanic and
geothermal activity is extensive
in Iceland. Recent volcanic
origin is about half of Iceland’s
land area. This area consists of
a mountainous lava desert
(with a highest elevation of
6,952 feet above sea level).
In the North Atlantic Ocean is
where Iceland is located.
Iceland is nearer Greenland
(North America) and further
away from Europe, although
they use Europe for their
cultural reasons. Iceland is a
part of two plates. The North
American and the European
plates. Through volcanism
rifting and accretion was
created where the plates meet
making the Mid-Atlantic
Ridge. In Iceland many
volcanoes are highly
geologically active. The Laki
volcanic eruption caused
nearly a quarter of the
population of the island to be
killed.
The ongoing recession has hit
Iceland pretty hard. Three of
Iceland’s banks crashed. Due
to the public dissent, the
coalition government collapsed
over the handling of the
financial crisis.
Reykjavik, Iceland
Financial crisis.
For daily life Iceland is very safe. They
are very honest people. It is very quite at
nighttime. Their food at restaurants is
very expensive. Their main foods are
fish, lamb and dairy products. Their main
form of transportation is an automobile.
For every 1 and half persons there is a car
owned. There are no railroads.
Iceland does not have a good disaster
plan. They are vulnerable and need to
learn more about their natural disasters.
