He offered the design to his carpenter friend named Harry Bunnell whowas at that time in need of a source of income during the winter.

Bunnell thought that the design was indeed unique, beautiful and comfortable. He thenfiled for a U.S. patent for the design without the permission of Lee and created a couple ofchairs which he offered to the residents of Westport. And from then on, Adirondack chairbecame popular.
