Safety & First AidAlthough there are no health hazards known in the normal use

and application of plasterboard, please observe the following

precautions:• Avoid creating dust when handling plasterboard or mixing

plasterboard products.

• Reduce sanding by passing a wet sponge over the edges of the finished joints after trowelling.

• If dry sanding is necessary and dust is created, provide adequate ventilation, wear eye protection and a disposable respiratory mask conforming to Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 1716:1994 Respiratory protective devices Type P1 and P2.

• Keep all construction materials and tools out of reach of children.

• Compound or dust in the eyes - Wash the eyes thoroughly with water.

• Compound or dust on skin - Wash the skin with soap and water.

• Dust inhalation - Move to fresh air area.

• Ingestion of compounds or dust - Drink plenty of water.

• Material Safety Data Sheets are available for all products manufactured by Boral Plasterboard - refer back cover.

EnvironmentIn Australia, Boral Plasterboard has developed an environmental policy targeting the recycling of its plaster products. The company can accept clean plasterboard off-cuts from some building sites to recycle for use in new plaster products. Please contact your local Boral Plasterboard Sales Office for details.

Plasterboard ProductsMachine made under a continuous manufacturing process, plasterboard is composed of a gypsum plaster core

encased in durable, heavy duty face and back linerboard. The face linerboard is wrapped around the long edges of

the board and the ends are guillotine-cut square.

Boral Plasterboard manufactures a range of board types in varying thicknesses and edge profiles to suit fire,

acoustic, decorative and other building requirements. Each board type is distinguished by colour coded face linerboard.

Stability

Under normal range of temperatures and humidity, values are:

Thermal Coefficient of Linear Expansion = 16.2x10-6mm/(mmºC)

at temperature range 4 - 38°C.

Hygrometric Coefficient of Expansion = 7.2x10-6mm/mm/%R.H.

(5%-90%R.H.).

Thermal Resistance

Thermal Resistance (R) Values for the following plasterboard

thickness under normal ambient temperatures are:

10mm = 0.060m2K/W

13mm = 0.079m2K/W

16mm = 0.098m2K/W

Higher thermal resistance values can be achieved for walls and

ceilings when used with appropriate thermal insulation materials.

BaseCote™ ��, �0 & �0A plaster-based jointing compound which is suitable for use with hand trowels and mechanical tools.

Application / UseUsed for bedding and basecoating plasterboard joints, angles and spotting fastener heads.

Packaging 20kg paper bags Working time BaseCote 45 has a working time of approximately 45 minutes. BaseCote 60 has a working time of approximately of 60 minutes. Finishing Compounds

TopCote™ ��0A premixed, vinyl based topping compound with a smooth finish. Requires 24 hours drying time before sanding.Suitable for use with hand trowels and mechanical tools.

Application / UseUsed as an economical finishing coat over BaseCote.

FinalCote™A premixed, vinyl based finishing compound that is a lightweight product and easier to sand than TopCote 550. Requires 24 hours drying time before sanding back. Suitable for use with hand trowels and mechanical tools.

CompoundsA well-known and established range of quality Boral Plaster compounds, adhesives and special plasters are available.

These are manufactured from Australian mined gypsum, to consistent quality assurance standards.

Plaster quality is always closely monitored. Ongoing research and development allows Boral Plasterboard to continue

providing a balanced product, one that is suitable for hand finishing and mechanical tools.

All Purpose Pre-Mix CompoundA premixed, all purpose, vinyl based compound which requires 24 hours drying time before sanding. Suitable for use with hand trowels and mechanical tools.

Application / UseUsed for bedding, basecoating and finishing joints, angles and fasteners.

Packaging 18kg pail Notes 3-coat system - 18kg (1 pail) will bed, basecoat and finish approx. 75m2 of board.

All Purpose Dry Mix CompoundA vinyl based, all purpose, dry mixed compound. Requires 24 hours drying time before sanding. Suitable for use with hand trowels and mechanical tools.

Plaster Adhesives

Cornice Adhesive �� and �0A plaster based adhesive.

Application / UseUsed for fixing cornice and related products to walls and ceilings and for laminating plasterboard sheets.

Packaging 20kg paper bags Working time Cornice Adhesive 45 has a working time of approximately 45 minutes. Cornice Adhesive 60 has a working time of approximately 60 minutes. Notes 20kg (1 bag) will fix approx. 180 lineal metres of cornice.

Back-Blocking AdhesiveA plaster based adhesive with superior adhesion.

Application / UseUsed for fixing plasterboard back-blocks in ceilings and walls to minimise cracking and peaking problems.

Stud AdhesivesUsed to fix plasterboard to timber and metal framing in conjunction with nails or screws. Reduces the quantity

of nails and screws required, consequently lessening fastener head stopping and finishing, and minimising the

possibility of nail ‘popping’ caused by frame movement or shrinkage.

Stud Adhesives have good gap filling properties to bridge between minor frame irregularities and the

plasterboard sheet.

Boral Plasterboard Stud Adhesives are formulated to comply with Australian Standard AS ��-1�� Adhesives

- Mastic - For bonding gypsum plaster linings to wood and metal framing members.

Gold Bond™ Stud AdhesiveA premium water based adhesive.

Special Plasters

Boral Plasterboard produces specialist plasters for use in varying climatic conditions or for use with special

plasterboard and decorative plaster finishes, either hand or machine applied.

Plain Ground Gypsum is also available.

Hard Finish PlasterA setting type compound designed for use with lime to achieve a hard surface on walls and ceilings.

Application / UseUsed as a skim coat plaster to produce a clean, white blemish-free surface with a controlled set.

Packaging 20kg bags Working time Hard - Finish Plaster is formulated to meet the working time requirements of each region. Notes Special formulation makes it easy to apply, produces a clean, white, blemish-free surface for resilience and low maintenance and gives a controlled set.

Stopping Plaster A plaster based compound.

Application / UseUsed in the flush jointing and stopping of fibre reinforced plaster sheets.

Spray PlasterA retarded plaster for spray applications with a 6 to 8 hour setting time. Can be mixed with suitable aggregates for mechanical spray applications.

Casting Plaster A general purpose plaster which when set is of medium hardness. Suitable for carving and turning.

Application / UseUsed in the manufacture of cast, fibre reinforced plaster sheets, panels, ceiling tiles, decorative cornices and ceiling roses. Used extensively in the arts and craft field and in the production of plastercraft replications.

Ceraplast �0 A fine, specialist plaster which has a higher strength compared with Ceraplast 80 and Pottery Plaster.

Industrial Plasters

Special plasters are made for pottery, moulding and plaster craft applications.

Manufactured from Australian mined gypsum, Boral Plasterboard moulding plaster is used for castings, mouldings,

modelling, statues and plastercraft replications and is suitable for industrial, commercial and hobby use.

Pottery Plaster is a fine specialist plaster developed and manufactured for use in slip moulds for ceramic pieces,

plaster models and craft replicas.

The strength, hardness and density of plasters is directly related to the quantity of water used. A water/plaster

mixing ratio of ��ml water/100g plaster is given only as an approximate guide.


Pottery PlasterA fine specialist plaster of medium strength.

Application / UseUsed in the casting of moulds for ceramic products and for plastercraft replications. Suitable for the manufacture of compression moulds in the slab casting of crockery and tableware.

Windsor Panels

Decorative plaster wall panels that are easily installed. Made from pure plaster, these designs have a high degree of

relief detail with a flawless finish when painted. Ideal for hallways or formal dining or lounge rooms in the home as

a Dado Panel. Windsor Panels are available in two designs: ‘Grand’ and ‘Regency’.

FastenersScrews Screws for fixing plasterboard are self drilling, self tapping, cross recessed, bugle-head steel, cadmium plated with

yellow chromate passivation to resist corrosion.

Needle point and ‘S’ Point Screws are Type 1 or Type � as defined in Australian Standard AS. �� - 1��. Several
