The primary reason that I volunteered to serve on the GLMC/GCMA Board is that I strongly believe that man-ufacturers need to engage with each other. We spend a significant amount of time (for good reasons) engag-ing our staff and our customers, but too often we may find ourselves too busy to reach out and engage with other manufacturers.

A fundamental objective of GLMC/GCMA is to create opportunities to network. Why? Because the manufac-turing problems that we encounter each day are proba-bly not unique to our specific company. There is an excellent chance that the manufacturer right down the street has wrestled with the same issue and has al-ready solved this problem to root cause, or developed an effective countermeasure. Similar to the “New Eyes” approach to process improvement —sometimes we are often too close to the process to see the real issues or causes.

My number one goal this year is to strengthen the en-gagement of local manufacturers so that we may be-come resources to each other. GLMC/GCMA provides each of us opportunities to develop relationships with other company leaders and at the same time, hear in-formation on topics relevant to all manufacturers.

The GLMC/GCMA Board met last week and as a team, we agreed we needed to shake things up a bit. To begin, we are going to try meeting on a different day of

the week (versus Friday). Another topic the Board discussed was to en-courage our member companies to identify future leaders within their companies and urge them attend the quarterly professional development meetings. These meetings can pro-vide members an opportunity to spend some one-on-one time with these key individuals as well as give them visibility in the community as representatives of your company.

Please let me know of other suggestions you have to make GLMC/GCMA a greater resource to you and your company. None of us need another meeting to go to, but we do all need the opportunity to learn from each other.

The November meetings will be plant tours of two of our local companies: Orizon Aerostructures in Grove and RAE Corporation in Pryor. This is a great way to get to know these companies and meet other manufac-turers in the process.

I hope to see you soon and I welcome the opportunity to connect with you and hear how you think GLMC/GCMA can maximize our impact.
