Plant phenotyping – perchè?
Sistemi colturali 19 Maggio 2016
• Fenotipo (P): espressione di
un genotipo (G) in un determinato ambiente
(E…e M!) attraverso le sue
caratteristiche morfo-
fisiologiche, di sviluppo, proprietà biochimiche.
(Furbank and Tester, 2011)

Plant phenotyping – cosa?
Sistemi colturali 19 Maggio 2016
• Plant Phenotyping:
valutazione di singoli tratti quantitativi (e.g.,
legati a crescita,
sviluppo, architettura,
tolleranza, resistenza,...) che costituiscono la base
di tratti complessi (e.g.,
resa), attraverso prove
sperimentali in laboratorio / serra /
campo (preferibilmente)

MOLECOLA
(Hammer et al., 2016; Tardieu and Tuberosa, 2010)

Miglioramento dell’harvest index attraverso:
o Riduzione dell’altezza
o Spighe più grandi
o Meno culmi ma più produttivi
Ottimizzazione

High-troughput phenotyping
Sistemi colturali 19 Maggio 2016
• Phenodyn
• Plant accelerator
• In alcuni contesti,
tecniche di misura
basate su molti
strumenti poco costosi possono
essere la soluzione
ottimale
• Field phenotyping rimane insostituibile
“Cheaper solutions with acceptable compromises in accuracy and sensitivity need to be developed, especially for deployment in the field (from portable instruments to ground-
based and flying platform” (Fiorani et al. 2013)
