Plant Phenomics is a new scientific field, which aims to

• develop, integrate and provide novel technologies toanalyse plant phenotypes

• identify gene-functions and their relationship toenvironmental cues

• analyse the way environments affect plant structureand function

• quantify plant performance in specific environmentsin the laboratory and in the field

• develop new concepts on the interaction betweenplants and their environment (physical, chemical andbiotic)

• transfer novel technologies into applications in plantproduction and for the analysis of natural plant and ecosystem performance

Plant Phenomics provides a science-basedconcept and technology to address major

challenges of plant performance like

Breeding plants for changing environment• Prognosis of plant performance in global change• Innovative plant production for present and future

crops based on the understanding of the complexinteraction of plants with their environment and itsdynamics

• Monitoring of plant performance in natural systems

The High Resolution PlantPhenomics Centre is located in Canberra atCSIRO Plant Industry and the Australian National University. It focuses ondeep phenotyping and reverse phenomics.

The Plant Acceleratorfocuses on high throughputanalyses of plant growthand function. This world-leading plant growth andanalysis facility is based atthe Waite Campus of theUniversity of Adelaide.
