Eco-Efficient Energy Solutions
for the Pipeline Industry

The power produced by the
exhaust from gas turbine driven
compressors along a natural gas
pipeline is dependent on the type
of gas turbine used and on site
conditions. OEC power output
for typical gas turbines is indicated
in the chart.
OEC Benefitsof Fuel-Free Power Productionfor Pipelines
The ORMAT® Energy Converter (OEC) is designed to
complement your compressor operation and generate
cost-effective electricity or additional compressor power:
• ORMAT units available from 500 kW to 7,500 kW
• Factory-integrated for rapid, easy modular installation
• Operation is automatic and unmanned
• OEC units include remote monitoring and control
• Air-cooled condensers, no water required
• Provides environmentally-clean power for station use or for sale
• ORMAT organic motive fluid is non freezing and ozone-benign
• Design incorporates 35 years of field proven power system experience
• Cost-effective power is produced without additional fuel usage
• Turnkey design, supply and installation of modular systems available
• Financing optional

THROWING AWAY!
he ORMAT Energy Converter (OEC) is an air-cooled heatrecovery (bottoming cycle) power system. It converts waste
heat from the exhaust of gas turbine-driven compressors intoelectricity for sale to local utilities or for additional compressorstation power.
The OEC, like steam power plants, is based on the RankineCycle, but uses a non-freezing, ozone-benign organic workingfluid, instead of steam. The system is referred to as an OrganicRankine Cycle (ORC). It is well suited for operation with gasturbine exhaust heat sources.

How the ORMAT® Energy Converter Works
The self-contained, fully automatic ORMATEnergy Converter (OEC) produces grid-compatible power. Its working fluid is selectedto optimize power output for specific gasturbine exhaust streams. Thermal energy inthe exhaust gas is transferred to the OEC’svaporizer by a nonflammable heat transferfluid flowing through the Heat Recovery Unit. The OEC working fluid is vaporized by the heattransfer fluid.
The resulting pressurized organic vapor drivesa special turbine, which is coupled to thegenerator or an additional compressor. Afterexpansion, the turbine exhaust vapor flowsthrough the recuperator, is condensed andrecycled by the motive fluid pump.

The ORMAT Energy Converter (OEC), a Closed CycleVapor Turbogenerator (CCVT), provides highly reliable, low maintenance power for remote unattendedapplications along pipelines. OEC units are used to powercathodic protection, SCADA, remotely operated valves, and telecommunications links on over 4,000 miles(6,000 km) of pipelines.
With over 200 million turbine hours of field-provenreliability, many OEC units have been in operation forover 25 years! The self-contained OEC supplies 200 to3,000 Watts continuously under the most severeenvironments with near-zero maintenance. OEC unitsuse a wide variety of locally available fuels includingnatural gas, LPG, kerosene, jet fuel, and diesel fuel.

Spanning the Globe With Modular Powe
Since 1978: Dual OEC provides reliablepower for communication at offshore gasproduction facilities in the Adriatic Sea.
Unattended Distributed Poweralong 4,000 Miles of Pipelines
Since 1976: OEC units power 62 remotelyoperated gate valves along the 800-mileTrans-Alaska pipeline.
Since 1968: Telecommunication networksand gas pipeline cathodic protection inArgentina.
ORMAT provides all the services and equipment necessaryto complete the “Balance of Plant”. Key ORMATcapabilities include design, engineering, construction, and start-up. ORMAT procures, supplies, andmanufactures a wide range of additional equipment andsystems. The company also rehabilitates and operatesexisting power plant facilities, including a recentlyrehabilitated 440 MWe thermal power plant and a districtheating system.
