BASELINE INFORMATION ON THE PLANS WAS DETERMINED FROM A LINE OF BEST FITALONG THE EXISTING ROADWAY EDGE/CURB LINE (WHITNEY AVENUE), AS SURVEYED.THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ALERT THE ENGINEER OF ANY DISCREPANCIES BETWEEN THEDEVELOPED BASELINE AND EXISTING CONDITIONS ALONG WHITNEY AVENUE WHENLAYING OUT PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS.

6. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SITE SECURITY AND SAFETY. ALL CONSTRUCTIONACTIVITIES SHALL BE PERFORMED IN ACCORDANCE WITH LOCAL AND OSHA STANDARDS.

7. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE AWARE OF THE WORK WHICH IS TO BE PERFORMED ON ORADJACENT TO PRIVATE PROPERTY AND SHALL FAMILIARIZE HIMSELF WITH ANY EASEMENTSOR RIGHTS ESTABLISHED FOR THE PURPOSES OF CONSTRUCTION.

8. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROTECT TRAFFIC OPERATIONS AT ALL DRIVEWAYS ANDMAINTAIN PEDESTRIAN SIDEWALK ACCESS AT ALL TIMES. SEE NOTICE TO CONTRACTOR -SAFEGUARDING OF RESIDENCES AND PEDESTRIANS FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ANDDIRECTION.

9. ANY DAMAGE OUTSIDE THE SCOPE/LIMIT OF WORK SHALL BE REPAIRED TO ORIGINALCONDITION, OR BETTER, AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER AND AT NO ADDITIONAL COSTTO THE TOWN.

10. THERE WILL BE NO SEPARATE PAYMENT FOR EARTH EXCAVATION. ALL EXCAVATIONREQUIRED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE GRAVITY BLOCK RETAINING WALL ANDASSOCIATED IMPROVEMENTS SHALL BE PAID FOR UNDER ITEM 0601651 - RETAININGWALL (SITE NO. 1). ANY REQUIRED ROCK EXCAVATION SHALL BE PAID FOR UNDER ITEM0203100 - STRUCTURE EXCAVATION - ROCK.

11. DAMAGE RESULTING FROM CONSTRUCTION LOADS AND OPERATIONS SHALL BE REPAIREDBY THE CONTRACTOR AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE TOWN.

SOIL EROSION & SEDIMENTATION CONTROL NOTES:

1. EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL MEASURES AS SHOWN ON THESE PLANS SHALL BEMAINTAINED BY THE CONTRACTOR UNTIL PERMANENT COVER AND STABILIZATION ISESTABLISHED. ALL SEDIMENT AND EROSION CONTROL MEASURES SHALL CONFORM TO THE"GUIDELINES FOR SOIL EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL, CONNECTICUT - REVISED 2002".THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ALSO BE REQUIRED TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT ACCORDINGTO THE "BEST MANAGEMENT" PRACTICES OF THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS.

2. ALL EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROL MEASURES SHALL BE INSTALLED AS SHOWNON THE PLANS OR AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER OR TOWN. ADDITIONAL MEASURES MAYBE REQUIRED AS DIRECTED DURING THE CONSTRUCTION PERIOD.

3. ALL CATCH BASINS SHALL BE PROTECTED BY A SILT SACK, OR OTHER APPROVED METHOD,THROUGHOUT CONSTRUCTION AND UNTIL ADJACENT AREAS ARE STABILIZED.

4. ALL CATCH BASINS AND PIPES SHALL BE INSPECTED WEEKLY BY THE CONTRACTOR ANDCLEANED AS REQUIRED. NO ADDITIONAL PAYMENT SHALL BE MADE FOR THE CLEANINGAND DISPOSING OF ACCUMULATED SEDIMENT WITHIN CATCH BASINS AND PIPES DURINGTHE CONSTRUCTION PERIOD. THIS CLEANING SHALL INCLUDE AN INITIAL CLEANING ATTHE ONSET OF CONSTRUCTION.

5. ALL EROSION AND SEDIMENTATION CONTROLS SHALL BE INSPECTED WEEKLY AND AFTERRAINFALL EVENTS. ANY NECESSARY REPAIRS SHALL BE COMPLETED IMMEDIATELY. THECONTRACTOR IS REQUIRED TO KEEP ALL CONTROLS IN WORKING ORDER THROUGHOUT THECONSTRUCTION PHASE. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROPERLY DISPOSE OF ACCUMULATEDSEDIMENT SUCH THAT IT DOES NOT HINDER DRAINAGE STRUCTURES AND PROTECTEDAREAS.

6. KEEP ALL PAVED SURFACED AND PRIVATE PROPERTIES CLEAN OF MUD, DIRT OR DEBRISDAILY, AND BEFORE SCHEDULED RAINFALL EVENTS BY SWEEPING OR USING OTHERAPPROVED METHODS.

7. CONTRACTOR SHALL CONTROL STORMWATER RUNOFF DURING CONSTRUCTION TO PREVENTADVERSE IMPACTS TO OFFSITE AREAS, AND SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE TO REPAIR RESULTINGDAMAGES, IF ANY, AT NO COST TO THE TOWN.

8. CONTRACTOR SHALL PREVENT DUST, SEDIMENT, AND DEBRIS FROM EXITING THE SITE, ANDSHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY REQUIRED CLEANUP, REPAIRS AND CORRECTIVE ACTIONRESULTING FOR FAILURE TO CONTROL THE SITE.

EVERY EFFORTSHALL BE MADE BY THE CONTRACTOR TO PREVENT EROSION ON THE SITE AND/OR ONTOABUTTING PROPERTY.

13. THE ENGINEER HAS THE AUTHORITY TO DIRECT THE CONTRACTOR TO DIVERT SURFACEWATER RUN-OFF AWAY FROM EXPOSED RAW EARTH SURFACES THROUGH THE USE OFTEMPORARY BERMS, DIKES, DIVERSION CHANNELS AND/OR OTHER DIVERSION TECHNIQUESAPPROVED BY THE CITY'S REPRESENTATIVE AND THE ENGINEER.

14. THE EROSION CONTROL FEATURES SHALL BE INSTALLED AND MAINTAINED BY THECONTRACTOR AND SHALL BE CHECKED DAILY AND AFTER EACH SEVERE RAIN STORM FORDAMAGE, UNTIL SUCH FEATURES ARE, IN THE OPINION OF THE ENGINEER, NO LONGERNEEDED. ALL SEDIMENTATION TRAPS AND SEDIMENTATION BASINS SHALL HAVE THEACCUMULATED SEDIMENT AND/OR CLEAN WATER REMOVED BEFORE IT SIGNIFICANTLYREDUCES THEIR STORAGE VOLUME OR FUNCTION, PRIOR TO THE NEXT RAIN STORMFORECAST FOR THE REGION.

15. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL, AT ALL TIMES, HAVE ON HAND THE NECESSARY MATERIALS ANDEQUIPMENT TO PROVIDE FOR EARLY SLOPE STABILIZATION AND CORRECTIVE MEASURES TODAMAGED SLOPES. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL RESPOND TO MAINTENANCE OR ADDITIONALMEASURES ORDERED BY THE ENGINEER WITHIN 24 HOURS.

16. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL OPERATE ALL EQUIPMENT AND PERFORM ALL CONSTRUCTIONOPERATIONS SO AS TO MINIMIZE POLLUTION TO ADJACENT WATER COURSES OR WETLANDSAREAS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CEASE ANY OF HIS OPERATIONS WHICH WILL INCREASEPOLLUTION DURING RAIN STORMS.

DETOUR NOTES:

1. ALL SIGN LOCATIONS INDICATED ON THIS PLAN ARE APPROXIMATE. EXACT LOCATIONS OFSIGNS SHALL BE DETERMINED IN FIELD AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER.

2. DETOUR SIGNS SHALL BE COVERED WHEN THE DETOUR IS NOT IN OPERATION.
