Reasons for our choices

For the female antagonist who we want the audience to identify with, we wanted to illustrate a strong sense of femme fatale. We thought that the red lipstick and nails, together with the stiletto shoes would portray this well. We took a lot of inspiration from the main characters of ‘Salt’ and ‘Syrup’ as these films convey a dominant female character in the way that we aim to achieve. We also wanted to have a male protagonist who would fit more with the conventions of a crime thriller film, for instance looking slightly scruffy. An example of this would be Brad Pitt’s character in ‘Se7en’. The contrast of props between the male and female is deliberate and we wanted to show a high level of glamour, sophistication and class in regards to the female antagonist. For the male protagonist, we wanted to connote the idea of more of a basic standard of living who doesn’t look after himself.
