Introduction
Effective planning, budgeting and cost control are pillars of sustainability to businesses. The relevance of cost plan-ning, budgeting and cost control was made very important by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic that forced organisa-tions to relook on their spending and forecasts.
In general, some organisations are still using traditional planning and budgeting tools, and forecasting techniques that are becoming irrelevant in the fast-changing envi-ronment. A strategic budgeting approach that considers organisation mission and long-term goals needs to be em-braced by businesses to ensure successful implementation of their strategies.
The modern strategic cost management is very essential for organisational strategic planning as it provides critical in-formation for decision making to senior management and stakeholders. Also, budget forecasting is one of the areas that has gained popularity in the recent years. Forecasting is a process that allows businesses to use historical data to make financial projections in the long-run.
