This calendar is my plan and guidance of the work in which I need to have completed for planning. I have planned the date of photo shoot and the location they need to be done. This way I can visually be reminded of what I need to do.

When planning to find models for my magazine I made announcements on peoples facebook pages to find out if people would be interested in doing this for me. For my magazine im looking for people in which have a ‘certain look’ so its important that I get the people I want. I am also considering getting some images of a group of people seeing as in the urban music industry they are very big! The first person I spoke to about this was my friend “Brooklyn Accastello” and I originally spoke to her via facebook it then turned into text messages which we spoke about venues and times when we are both available to meet up.

Page 4: Planning and location powerpoint

At this stage in my planning I've asked around of people who can model for me, and I have started to get an idea of certain locations in which I can do these shoots.. I want to get a range of images so that I can choose the best ones that fit my certain brief.

Page 5: Planning and location powerpoint

I used to attend a theatre and dance school twice a week before joining college and they do urban dance which would also fit with my magazine. Im in the process of emailing my old teacher to see if its at all possible for me to attend one of the classes and take some images to put into my magazine. Once I have heard back from them im planning to move on and actually take the images which I can then begin to create the story board for my own magazine.

PROPS & COSTUMES When organising my costumes I looked at

pictures of urban clothing, and stars to get a real understanding of what looks best at capturing the brief. I want to create and edgy, grungy look. For this I want to make sure I use- trainers –Jeans –Makeup –pretty girly topsHowever because im planning to take pictures of a dance troop its also important I have images of people in hoodies and trackies which could fit the stereotype of what urban music leads to.

For the props im going to try my best to keep it very minimal because its important for me that my magazine shows how important in ‘urban music’ it is that people really see the music for what it is and not only the look of the people who either sing or produce it. I would like to use microphone, dance studios, stereo's as they are all typical things in which you would expect to see in a magazine.

Page 8: Planning and location powerpoint

Both trainers and high heels are both stereotypical footwear in which you would expect to see ‘urban stars’ wearing. They are almost a symbol of personality and sexuality.

Microphones are most defiantly the most iconic item that people imagine when the word music is mentioned. They symbolise everything and its very important i have at least one image of a microphone somewhere within my magazine.

I have also decided that its important for me to represent the idea of how people listen to the music or artists that im writing about within my magazine. The main way of this is through headphones and these seems to be something in which every person posses.

ORGANIZATION OFLOCATION

Reece form 1ACTIVITY IS THE

LOCATION SUITABLE FOR PRODUCTION?

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Look around the location. Yes The fact that it’s a dance studio, works with my initial breif

Talk to people there, organise filming permissions.

yes Spoken to dance teacher and models and got permission- Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School, West Street, Marlow, SL7 2BR.

Identify the equipment you need to use. yes The mirrors work well, make sure I can capture everything within the studio

Examine and identify any potential health and safety issues (Both people and equipment related issues e.g. crowd numbers being controlled; using safe cabling practices and video equipment being set up in a sensible location that does not block access points or that damages the environment or frightens livestock)

yes The door area was unlocked and not blocked by anything. The area was safe and plugs and cables where safely organised. The models and myself where all in safe positions away from hazards

Look for interesting shots and camera angles.

yes I intend to use a wide variety of shots: -high/low angles -mid shot -extreme close up -close up -zoom -wide shot -long shot - over the shoulder shot -reaction shots -two shot -establishing shot

Check the electricity supply. (For the majority of exterior locations you will be using battery power)

yes All from interior sockets

Do a test sound/video recording and check for potential noise problems (traffic noise may be a problem; is a location on a main flight path to an airport?)

No interruption’s where found, sound proof studio.

Confirm times and dates with technical crew/actors or anybody you are interviewing, etc.

yes Confirmed times via email and a phone call on the day to make sure everything’s okay.

Arrange car parking, access, loading, security, where possible.

yes Private car park (school staff car park) attached to the side of the building.

Make sure everybody concerned with your video production knows what is happening and what is expected of them when on location.

yes Everyone in the class was informed of the reason in which I was there taking images and all agreed and gave me there permission for me to proceed. I explained what I expected and they agree.

For my first location, I have chosen the dance studio at Sir William Borlase Grammar School. The dance studio has a wall of mirrors and a big open dance floor. Seeing as the studio is in use almost all the time safety checks have been put in place. This was a perfect location for me to use, seeing as its already set up to how I need and intend it to be used. The studio offered me a realistic setting for my photo-shoot which concluded that the location seemed professional enough to be in a magazine. As I wanted the studio look as a feature in my magazine it was perfect to get pictures of a live rehearsal.

ACTIVITY IS THE LOCATION SUITABLE FOR PRODUCTION?

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Look around the location. Yes It’s a derelict space, in a local ally. Perfect for my intentions.

Talk to people there, organise filming permissions.

Yes There is no need to ask for permission because it’s a wide open, public space.

Identify the equipment you need to use. yes Just a camera, and make up with a costume for my models

Examine and identify any potential health and safety issues (Both people and equipment related issues e.g. crowd numbers being controlled; using safe cabling practices and video equipment being set up in a sensible location that does not block access points or that damages the environment or frightens livestock)

General awareness of where I am, making sure I and my models are safe.

Check the position of the sun and lighting conditions.

yes Daylight hours

Look for interesting shots and camera angles. yes Making sure I capture the graffiti on the walls as that’s a big part of the shoot.

Check the electricity supply. (For the majority of exterior locations you will be using battery power)

yes No electricity supply, battery powered if any needed.

Do a test sound/video recording and check for potential noise problems (traffic noise may be a problem; is a location on a main flight path to an airport?)

yes The only noise that may cause an issue is that of passing people due to being a public ally.

Confirm times and dates with technical crew/actors or anybody you are interviewing, etc.

yes Meeting the models before shoot, and going to the shoot together.

Arrange car parking, access, loading, security, where possible.

yes Self-awareness, no parking needed.

Make sure everybody concerned with your video production knows what is happening and what is expected of them when on location.

yes Models know whats happening, and what to do when we get there.

For my second location I have chosen to do a photo-shoot in a local ally, in High Wycombe. This ally in particular has walls covered in graffiti and looks almost ‘grungy’. Not many safety checks have been done due to the fact that it’s a public place and there is no health and safety issues around electricity or such likes. The only safety check in which needs to be monitored is that of our self-awareness of where we are and at what time. This ally offers me a realistic setting for the shoot as it works well with the urban magazine in which I am trying to create. As well as the graffiti being a big part of the reason I chose this location I also wanted to use it because of the open space it provides meaning I can use a whole range of angels and images to create messages through my images.
